  • That moment where you hear nothing but this song, get caught, then hear " Encounter".

  • I really don't think theirs a soundtrack game or movie that fits so perfectly as this does with MGS

  • I play this music when I think about clubbing women to death.

  • Calmness and tension at the same time

  • That sharp churning sound when your in the ventilation shafts that occurs every 5 seconds or so, you can hear it at the start of this song, is actually one of the most realistic things in this game! Always freaks me out, true story! Oh also, THERE HE IS! THIS WAY!

  • I hear this in my head when I sneak in my house at 3 AM

  • 4 people got busted by surveillance camera

  • Thumbs up if u still remember There's 2 Tank and need go to 3rd floor and C4 the wall ! vs ocelot

  • The first nineteen seconds reminds me of the Terminator.

  • I can't tell how happy I was when I got this iPod song on MGS4 :)

  • i actually listen to this when i go to sleep, and it works XD

  • 4 people forgot to plug the game controller into another port

  • i need to shoot some genome soldiers

  • this shit gives me the chills.

  • im taking a shit to this.... it the most intense shit ive ever taken!!!

  • I've made a cover of this, if anyone wont's to hear it:)

  • Enough with the fucking like/dislike jokes.

Be more original you sad fucks! xD

  • Ohh rememver when i was a kid i didnt know Meryls number daaamn good times gonna look where my ps1 with this game is Brb .. !

  • thumbs up if u think this sounds like the theme song to The Thing

  • omg i so remember when i was getting the freaking SOCOM suppressor and stuff good old freaking times....

  • every time i listen to this i imagine myself as Snake running down a dimly lit metallic corridor.. hearing nothing but the sound of my feet beneath me.. staring ahead into the everlasting darkness..

alert.. vigilant.. and yet strangely calm

the thrill of stealth i have felt with this game is to date unmatched..

metal gear is a paradox of a game.. it loudly advocates peace by silently making war..

  • 4 people got killed by the gas

  • REMEMBER THE TIMES YOU WOULD GO TO THE VIDEOS STORE TO RENT GAMES ;( FOR PS1 NINTENDO64 GOOD TIMES GOOD TIMES

  • I always feel like I'm setting off some red flag at the Pentagon everytime I look up the name of this song

  • o god so many memories, this was the first most epic game i've ever played before halo

  • @Foomanala

pfffffft dont mention mgs and halo in the same sentence, please.

  • @IDNA222

Yeah "bra" you can do what you what, even if that includes ignorance being bliss for your little pea sized brain that cannot even begin to fathom the complex and moving storyline of the metal gear solid series.

  • @Daedalus294

You missed the point of my posts, brah. I love the Metal Gear series. It's still the best arcade stealth-action series out there. Hell, the newest Deus Ex game imitated the game mechanics of MGS. The plot, however overrated (and it is), is also pretty good (for a video game) for most of the series; the exception is MGS4 (and MGS2, to a lesser extent) which really didn't give Solid Snake the conclusion he deserved.

    "Snake... had a hard life."

No shit - so give him a good ending!

  • thumbs up if you agree there are people on here that are mgs4 armchair critics that shouldnt be allowed to cite their opinions because they bitch about the game not going the way they wanted..... like (IDNA222)

  • @Daedalus294

World Wide Web, brah - I can do what I please.

  • Comment removed

  • I don't get how in MGS1, Snake can't use weapons, but other people can...? And in MGS4 you can use weapons and the Gekkos use weapons....

  • @jumpjet66 Because of the nuclear warheads in this area, when the Genom soldiers started to shoot I guess gas or something came out but in MGS4 the warheads weren't a danger anymore

  • Listening to this on the ipod in MGS4, during Act 4, wearing the MGS1-snake facecamo = Nostalgia-gasm :)

  • 3 people didn't follow the rats and got lost

  • No smoking or weapons in the warhead area please

  • @cometfireato2 Yeah but genome soldiers can shoot you in that area T_T

  • 3 people got upset because they must "never use their weapons on that area"

  • the first time I didn't get it but the frequence came itself

  • @mikekiller Hereby I declare you comment as the most EPIC one.

Greetz, and old MGS PSX player.

  • for who didnt found the frequence , it is in the back of your REAL SNAKE CD PACK

my pack is old , so i cant se the first number.

    Meryl: 140.15 Meryl: 40.15

i wish you will continue the game now!

  • at the back off the cd case?????? searching, walking, sleeping, dreaming, what cd case?

at last all frequency used and found meryl

  • tum tumbphtum tumbphtum tumbphtum tumbph

  • Even back in the 90s when I first played it I thought someday someone will play this in a bundled collection or something and when it tells you to look at the case they will be like WTF?! but now I guess ppl can cheat off the internet anyway lol

  • besides MGS main theme and the Alert music, this is my favorite music in all of video games.

  • 3 people got killed in the lasers.

  • I rented the game and it didn't come with the manual or the original case, so I had to go through every frequency to call Meryl!

  • @MrCharlesWindsor all i did was look up her frequency

  • @MrCharlesWindsor HAHA HOLY SHIT!

  • @MrCharlesWindsor

Holy shit that confused me so much. "It's on the back of the CD case" I'm thinking what the fuck, there are no CDs in my inventory. I hated myself when i realised he meant the ACTUAL game case.

  • @adamhully Dude i did the same shit. I had no idea what he was talking about. Glorious memories man.

  • @adamhully i actually went to look on the optical disk they gave you and i went all wtf? i dont see shit! and then i found the codec purely by accident LOL i didnt have a comp so how was i supposed to know?

  • @MrCharlesWindsor Thats painful, was this before the days of the internet?

  • @MrCharlesWindsor I found out that if you just keep calling Campbell about Meryl, her frequency will just eventually pop up in your list. I guess that's just a fail safe they put in for someone who lost their CD case, but it works.

  • @MrCharlesWindsor Same. Luckily since I started at the bottom it didnt take long >_>

  • @MrCharlesWindsor Took a long time I bet. How long did it take you to get to 140.15?

  • @MrCharlesWindsor You do realise that if you called the Colonel enough times he would've just programmed the number into your codec, right?

  • @MrCharlesWindsor why didnt you not just google it rofl

  • @MrCharlesWindsor Dude. . . . you're epic.

  • The air vent theme at the beginning is a nice touch. Why is it until now that I just realize that in the series none of the outside areas have their own music?

  • 3 people clicked the dislike button.

  • @davidiscool92 wankers hehe :')

  • @davidiscool92

    Those bastards...

  • 3 people submitted in the electric torture chamber lol

  • Awsome music... I try to walk around the storage just to listen to this. Just epic. MGS 1 is just one of the best game ever made. Thanks for sharing this ;)

  • good song and mgs 1,2,3,4

  • Whose tracks are these!?! oh...alvaroduck's

  • ''My name is not important.'' -Aha, could you be Sheen? Are you Charlie Sheen?? - Some people call me that. - The legendary Douchebag Sheen? You? -Wining!

  • This is actually the Tank Hangar song as well.

  • @nemesis233 Indeed it is, i thought this aswell when i played it on cd for the first time but on the OST box its titled 'Warhead Storage' :)

  • Metal Gear Solid was, in my frank opinion, the best experience of the entire series.

This game has an amazing mesh of amazing characters, both minor and major; a thrilling and intriguing plotline that kept you hooked all the way through; and an incredible atmosphere that pulled you in with the dark themes, moody visuals, some amazing graphics for a PSX game, and the perfect soundtrack.

The sequels don't come close. I consider "Metal Gear Solid" to be the finale of the Metal Gear series.

  • @IDNA222 ya, none of them could measure up, but this game set the bar so high what could? it ends at mgs3 for me -_-

  • @IDNA222 Umm... MGS4?

  • @jlmdfnbo

MGS4 had a terrible plot. The gameplay was good, I will admit that; but the story was terrible. MGS4 is, to me, Konami taking a massive dump on one of my fondest memories of video games. Guns of the Patriots was just about as idiotic of a conclusion to the series as could be done. It was a bigger blunder than the writing in MGS2, and that's saying something.

"Ocelot was a good guy all along and Big Boss loves you!"

That's how you're going to end such a fantastic series? Really?

  • @IDNA222 Your negative opinions about MGS4's plot doesn't make it bad. It had twists, it had a story that went forward and kept the player immensed in it, and the game sold like a motherfucker. You may not have personally liked it, but it was written by one of the greatest minds in storytelling of our time, Hideo. I l also do not understand your negativity towards MGS2, it was basically MGS1 with Jack as the protagonist, with REX switched to RAY, can't be all bad? (continued...)

  • @jlmdfnbo

I liked playing MGS2. I liked playing MGS4 as well. But their plots were garbage (more so with 4 than with 2).

And Kojima is just a lesser Shyamalan - all twist no substance. It caught up to him after MGS. Sons of Liberty had one of the worst endings that I've ever seen in a video game: "HA HA HA! FEDERAL HALL!" and "THE PATRIOTS WERE DEAD ALL ALONG!"

(Of course, in MGS4 we find out "THEY WERE AIs ALL ALONG!")

"Greatest minds in storytelling of our time" - Oh that's rich!

  • @IDNA222 l agree, l don't mind MGS2, it has some fantastic dialogue at the last act about contemporary and postmodern issues. But MGS4 has some of the most drawn-out and boring dialogue l've ever heard. And the whole explanation for Ocelot's hand was just retard, for a plot-device that was already retarded.

  • @IDNA222 Now i wouldnt say that because mgs4 was a game that had to take the storylines of mg,mg2,mgs,mgs2,and mgs3 to give it a proper ending and have it make as much sense as possible. And the twists were a staple of the mgs franchise but thats not the only thing they did. With mgs3 they had alot of parellels that make the story of the previous games and solid snakes hardship make sense. The mgs series truly made unforgetable characters with a deep storyline.

  • @IDNA222 Actually, fuck it. Your opinion is so wrong on so many levels I'm not even going to bother explaining it to you. Have a good day.

  • @jlmdfnbo

What really baffles me is that they actually had the audacity to inject massive MGS1 nostalgia into the endgame. An entire chapter devoted to Shadow Moses? Snake getting to pilot REX?

"Hey, remember when the plot of this franchise wasn't a total joke?"

It also reminds you of Ocelot's character development through the series:

MGS - "The president was on my side all along!"

MGS2 - "The PATRIOTS were on my si- BROTTHEERRR!"

    MGS4- "I DIED FOR HUMANITY'S SINS!"

    "Kojima, you a busta!"

  • Metal Gear = the best game series in the world

  • best song theme ever

  • 3 people couldnt make it past the intro

  • this soundtracks are awesome, in mgs2 they are gay..

  • if for some reason you hear this while you sleep...don't be alarmed its me raiding your kitchen and cabinets

  • MGS1 BEST!! MGS2,3,4 are trash

  • @gargara77 MGS2 was pretty good. At least they also have fine songs and good story. For 2003 that game fuckin rocked

  • 3 people have Lack off gaming Experience.....

  • i've got this track on my mp3 and i whenever im walking home at night i play it and quietly jog home :P

  • one of the most inspiring games ever..!

  • such a perfect game. just perfect. it'll never be this good again folks. they fucked it.

  • @gaffneyyy

MGS is one of the few game series that has been consistently great. Will any other games in the series be as special as MGS1 was, probably not, but the franchise isn't ruined.

And even if the franchise doesn't continue.......It's story, it's debriefing, will endure only in our hearts.

    *Salutes*

  • @dajman15 true, l do enjoy MGS2 and MGS3, But MGS1 is just flawless; the bosses, the battles, the story, the music, and that goddamn stairway are fantastic.

as for MGS4...its an unbalanced mess.

  • @1shoryuken

Please explain. I have heard about people being disappointed with it but what made it unbalanced for you.

  • @dajman15 l could complain about the 'long' the cut scenes are but hey, it's MGS, its expected to be like that, it's just that the cut-scenes don't flow with the game-play and just interrupt your control very often and that makes the game so redundant. The dialogue is dreadful and non-consistent at times, the camera doesn't work for stealth, the bosses are so bland, generic and uninteresting (what kind of MGS has banal boss characters?) and the boss battles are so soo soooo Boring!!

  • @1shoryuken

I think the amount of cutscenes and content within them could be attributed to how complex MGS had gotten up until MGS4 came out, the writers had cornered themselves so they had to try and fit everything in nicely in one game.

I liked the bosses though, neither were as good as the ones in MGS1 & 3 (Although the fight with Liquid was awesome!) but they were still cool. And I thought the stealth worked fine along with the gunplay.

Just my opinion though. Sorry it disappointed you :(

  • @dajman15 l think it's just an acquired taste, l do believe thou, that is the perfect product of trying way too hard (or ambitious) for making the medium of Video games a work of art.

  • Enough with the retarded " dislike" jokes,

People have a right to not like something, even though they are incredibly stupid to dislike this epic soundtrack.

  • 3 ppl were killed by the gas of the lasers

  • I remember renting it for the weekend after I played it on the demo disc that came with my PS1. I got stuck on the menu screen for like an hour because I was so used to using the X button when cycling through game options. Then I got stuck when passing through the lasers before the first fight with Raven. Couldn't get past it. I was nine or ten. Then I got the game for Chrimbus '99, after protests from my father over it being rated M. I beat it shortly thereafter, and possibly 30 times since.

  • 3 people couldn't complete this part because they couln't use their weapons

  • What I liked the most about this game was the story and

The gameplay. As well as the boss battles

    Between psycho

    Mantis and metal gear Rex.:)

  • This song is arguably the best song on the whole soundtrack. Epic.:)

  • Does anyone else get chills at 1:17 ? Legendary tune. Unforgettable game.

  • I remember when I was a little kid. The very first time I played it. It was so good because as a kid you kind of were afraid of getting busted and chased around, and while this music played in the background you thought it could not get any better. But then you have that dark sneaky atmosphere and those awesome codec conversations which you just thought was cool because as a kid you did not understand anything.

  • 3 people accidentally fired a weapon inside the gas chamber trap between the warhead storage building and the exit towards the other warhead storage area with those soldiers wearinfg those massive protective suits :P

  • I always have the memories of slowly appearing out of the tunnel duct into the warhead storage building after having come from the snowy area, as soon as you began to appear into the building you could slowly hear the music get louder!

  • did anyone else get goosebumps when listening to this, AND when revisiting tank hangar in MGS4??

  • "wait you said you're going to stay put and be a good girl!"

  • 3 genome soldiers had their necks broken for not liking this

  • Anyone know where I can find the MGS4 version of this? This shit is classic! How can you not love this? haha

  • "Use the elevator to move from floor to floor. There should be an elevator that you can use somewhere around there. Try to find it" [conversation ends]

  • @Adnan0908 I cheated on that part lol I layed down by the open door and used my sniper so I could shoot inside the bunker getting through was sooo easy XD

  • 3 People were not correctly informed that there were lasers in the area

  • In the frozen wastelands of Alaska, in spite of fierce arctic crosswinds, 3 people were picked from 1.7 miles by Sniper Wolf while she was walking sideways to avoid their clumsy shots.

  • This is going in my fallout new vegas dungeon music folder

  • When this game came out, I rented it cuz I didnt have the money to buy it.

They never saw the game or me again.

    It was worth it.

  • @JOEFIXIT79 Hilarious... Any man would have done the same in your position.

...Just because they never saw you, it doesn't mean you never returned, does it... Snake? I bet you have this track playing on your iPod for whenever you came back to procure Games / DVDs / confectionery on site.

Chaff grenades for CCTV, and silenced tranquiliser for personnel (AKA "Cashiers")... Or pack a SOCOM if you're hard core.

Just don't forget to have "Encounter" ready on your playlist just in case.

  • @JOEFIXIT79 haha totally feel you bro hahha :D,great job

  • @JOEFIXIT79 fucking lol

  • @JOEFIXIT79 that should go down as one of the greatest moves in video game history. A+

  • @JOEFIXIT79 LMAO i have a similiar story but mine was a bit more bold lol, i walked into blockbuster, roamed around, saw it, grabbed it, and walked out.....never rented or shopped at that blockbuster ever again lol, but the other blockbusters didn't need to know about me either lol lmfao

  • @chyguy66 How did you get by the alarm?

  • @JOEFIXIT79 well i was small enough so i went around them well actually squeezed along side of them lol, easy as pie lol =P still do kinna fit around them lol

  • @JOEFIXIT79 *plays Mission Accomplished theme* "Impressive, Snake!"

  • @JOEFIXIT79

    I did that too lololol

    sorry was broke =(

  • Smoke a J and listen to this....So amazing.

  • @Bulluckolb53 U R right. But not amazing - fuckin` amazing.....

  • @Bulluckolb53

Im smoking a hookah while listening to this but maybe you have a point there too

  • This is definitely one of the best games I have ever played. I would love if they were to remake this game with PS3 graphics, but this game is still awesome considering the PS1 version. I always thought the soundtrack to MGS1 was just op notch. This track is just hanting yet intriguing. God, I just simply love the Metal Gear series. Does anyone know the name of the score after Snake beats Gray Fox and is talking to Naomi through the Codec?

  • Just listening to this brings back memories damn now i wanna beat this for the 56th time

  • i need a midi file for this ! any1 plz help !!!

  • this gives me chills, what a fucking song, what a fucking game.....nostalgia attack!

  • lol when im packing my firing range gear or shooting slow phase Stages i use this music to concentrate and think better

  • 3 people didn't find the disk cover and couldn't call Meryl

  • @mikekiller16 ROFL!!! :D

  • @mikekiller16

Oh well. Too bad for them, fucking morons.

  • @mikekiller16 Obviously, they didn't try calling the Colonel enough times.

  • @mikekiller16 jajajaja yeah! thats right!

  • @mikekiller16 meryl frequency its like ride a bike you know it by heart man :)

  • @mikekiller16 lol that was such a mind fuck when I learned what I was suppose to do!

  • @sumlad1 Yeah... I really love this game. Its a masterpiece. The dark mood along with the interesting gameplay, and the fun with controlling Snake through the game. The awesome, interesting codec conversations while the nostalgic music in the background plays... And Snake with the dark, lonely behavior which changes through the game. And many more. Awesome.

  • My personal favourite ost from MGS!!! Hell, it sooo fucking suits Metal Gear.

I'm glad I lived in this amazing era with MGS, I'm glad I played this fantastic game, coz the future generation won't see such epic games anymore, no matter how great the gfx or budget will be, there is no replacement for Metal Gear Solid. Thank you Kojima once again for this absolute masterpiece!!!

  • @Detsurasu very true. And I pity the people who never played it

  • @Detsurasu Im glad to that i could play this game. And i was like 3 years old when i played this and i still remember it :D

  • 1:09 - 1:27 is the most nostalgic part of this song for me... It wakes up my memories about several parts of the game.

  • I feel cold ......

  • @AnyThing999999999 you basterd =P

  • remake the game agen plz

  • The best infiltration music piece ever written for any MGS, hands down.

  • I wish i could go back in the day and play mgs1 agian when it first came out. I was blown away in 98 when i first played it and i still am lol.

  • i just have to,3 people went to the wrong floor on the elevator

  • this song plays when im late at school!

  • I have that theme that plays i my mind when I go to school.

  • @Superbattle54 yeah i hop they make mgs4 tropys doo they havent made it yett wich is kinda bullshit

  • 2 people walked into the lasers and died from poison gas

  • @ixlovexmayxmaple Hahaha

  • sounds like its from the terminator
