  • Sooner or later we are going to revel in being poor....We might then just start to give a bugger about each other. Let''s be friends and make a bloody song and dance about the inequities of society, like Ray wanted to do and like we should oughta...

  • wth is this

  • hehehe the last part of the song sounds exactly like Sgt Peppers

  • Ray's songs are well populated by living characters and finds ways to comment on class in a humorous way.

    God bless you Kinks.

  • .. Gotta Love The KinKs!! Absolutely Brilliant This Is :)

  • All right, I will admit after listening to most of Arthur that this will creep into the top 4 or 5 Kinks albums.

  • @PHYZOE What are the other 4?

  • Vicarious living. Keeps people sane. The Queen Mum thought she knew the Archers. Do figure...

  • My name is Marina :D

  • This is quite amusing,,,,

Princess Marina was the Colonel in Chief of REME (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) The Princess Marina College at the Arborfield Garrison Wokingham named in her honor was a REME Apprentice College.

Apprentices served two years before passing out of the College...... At which point a big Parade C/W Top Brass dignities soldiers and their families assembled for the ceremony.....

This song should have been played VERY LOUD at that time,,, Chuckle

  • ))))))))))))))) Very ))))))))))))

  • the kinks are geniuses when it comes to intros. that's why I luv e'm.

  • The last minute or so of this song reminds me of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band! Wild, crazy jazz. :)

    Brilliant tune.

  • It's sort of skiffle...

  • I love this song.

Working class people on the verge of starving, yet they MUST have fancy hats like the ones those in the privileged upper class wear.

It's not just the upper class that's full of twits.

  • @sbarr10 and applicable now except exchange hats for plasma TVs.

  • I have no dimes.

  • To answer SkeikSprite's question, "Arthur" was a concept album about a drab little man whose life epitomized the declining fortunes of the Britsh Empire. Thus, the melancholy.

  • Maybe I'm just dense but all the Kink's most of the music on this album has some depressing meaning behind it that I don't get until I listen to it for the twelfth time.

  • No you are not dense, the Kinks were meant to be really listened to, not just be some background filler music on some top 40 show. You won't find many throw-away lyrics from the Kinks!

  • This song reminds me of You Never Give me Your Money. Does anyone else think that?

  • Yeah, old-timeyness integrated with psychedelic rock. I think 'When I'm 64' probably started all that.. but I love all those songs!

  • @RattleheadIV : No.
