  • musicians are not comparable

  • @rodrigoconstantino very true these men are not mere musicians they are nothing short of gods!!!

  • I don't what this is classified as but either way I have an erection

  • MAYER = MAYER

    FRUSCIANTE = FRUSCIANTE

People who likes music and knows about it have to know that they are good, but you cant compare.. they are absolutely different !!

  • I wonder if the people watching, realize WHO they are watching...

  • @agadez13 why? I dont get it

  • @Eddief26 think if you were walkin in long beach and just ran into this. how many people do you think that were there knew that they were watching the awesomeness of such musicians?

  • John using a joe pass epiphone..have the same, without the pickguard too

    Great and natural jam

  • John is angel!!! Much much better mayer guys...

  • HE'S NOT JESUS!!!

    He's Rastafari!!!

  • dam... haha i remember this like in my high school days.. my friend went to to this show.. to me john mothafuckin frusciante is the GOAT..n HAS to be considered as one of thy greatest MUSICIANS to ever lived

  • are we all dying..dying to confess, or dying of confession? John and the Volta FTW!! r.i.p mr ward

  • Frusciante is much better than mayer

  • @jhosgood not even comparable. frusciante is one of a kind

  • i love how everyone and their mothers are music experts

  • defacto..

    dub...

    epic..

  • Is that Cedric on drums?

  • @oooeeeoooplaxico It is.

  • These guys are better than - U2 and the rest of the bullshit band.

  • sampling.... live sampling...

  • yeah... lo mejor eske son ltinos kmo iooooo.... bien todo proyecto musicad ese duo maravillosos zavala-rodriguez

  • i love omar and cedric on rhythm

  • It's actually an Epiphone Broadway... sounds amazing

  • Nope, its actually an Epiphone Emperor II, lent to John for this performance, then sold the very same afternoon.

  • stop arguing, stop talking. listen to the music. ignorance is bliss.

    so is music

  • whoops, someone needs to look into what they are watching.........

  • plus there is music for all taste. i dont understand emo or screamo music but man those little emo kids look so fukin happy beating the living shit out of their friends. in the end everybody evolves so let them evolve into a butterfly or a cocroach or a flower LIVE AND DIE FREE that is what trully makes us happy. PEACE

  • for everybody here who keeps saying that "white people cant play reggae.

people may think they r cool because they know history. but the truth is that is an art form is something that people have inside. reggae players cant help but to play reaggae beacause thats how they feel. learn something about the human mind and then something about art then you can say wich band is good and wich one is not.

  • whoever is saying that a white man cannot make better reggae is racist and dumb. music comes from inside. and music like in the old days is dead or remade so fuckoff and keep crying because you think you wer born in the wrong era.

music is music now and forever if u cant understand that dont talk

  • Uh, reggae is black power music at least originally. It isn't racist to say that. That's what it IS. Today's reggae fans have this weakness in their understanding of it: the history of the music. Talk Ras Tafari with any one of today's reggae fans and they get images of guys with dreads and nothing else. They're the dumb ones. Oh yeah, and roots reggae artists still are making music today, so it's not dead as you say. You are the ignorant one here.

  • Egiptians freaking invented smoking pot... originally at least, now we r the shit at growin And smoking that shit... let me make fun of al rastafars then, noooot

long live herb and truth man

  • ha! Thanks for proving me right. Immediately when I mention the roots of reggae you go right to "smoking pot" as if that's all there is with understanding the roots of reggae music. Forget all the idealism, the calls for justice. The reason I like reggae is all the pot smoking. Wow, man. That's all I needed to assess the state of today's reggae fans. Sad really.

  • I apologize for making you have that reaction, I shouldnt use something as sensible as that. but what I mean is that just because something was born there doesnt mean its the best. the reason i like reggae is the state of mind that it makes you feel your spirit. I like smoking pot for the same reason. pot has nothing to do with music unless you want it to, I use pot for the same reason i listen to reggae music, peace of mind and body

  • P.S. pot is kind of a very important part of reggae

  • don't worry man I agree that it is. I am a fan of it too. I am not a hater at all. I just post those comments because these new reggae fans are just so touchy about who can say what towards their music. Reggae has a rich history that I find fascinating, and I just think that pot is incidental to a lot of of it really. Everyone can be reggae fans I am just trying to push buttons because these days the kids don't really get what's going on outside of their little bubbles.

  • pot is minor in the outreach that reggae inflects on the comunity. herb is just a tool

  • you can screw a screw with your hands or a screwdriver.

  • And where do you think reggae came from (if your gonna be a twat) originally it was a response to new orleans Rn'B which again in turn was a response to the music of the white community, so don't be a fool why do you care anyway?

Might i add that John Frusciante is not a reggae guitarist, however he can skank really well. White men may not be able to comprehend the social and political aspects of reggae, however many white, asian and black people all have the same interest and flair in it

  • Let me start off by saying fuck you for that....do you think that reggae is a rip off of white music? Hahaha!!! That's fucking hilarious. The only thing "white" about reggae is guitars and the English language. They wouldn't have known these things to begin with if they weren't oppressed by whites at all. Where do you think New Orleans R&B started? With white people? (By the way, you are wrong about that as well). Reggae initially started borrowing from American soul music. Learn history

  • Yeah, so my original point stands true: White people don't get reggae. So fucking what? Why am I a "twat" for saying this? Really. They can't do it well. So John Frusciante can play a skank riff on a guitar and all these assholes on here think he's a god for doing it. Whoopity doo. I'll stick with Peter Tosh, thanks.

  • hey you need to chill your getting all assy.

this isn't about the fact that hes a god cos he can play a skank riff, infact me among others will be able to find guitarists we prefer.

the only reason i responded to your comment isnt cos im a hater its cos what you said was kinda bullshit 'The only thing "white" about reggae is guitars' errrrm...... they were a major part in reggaes development, not that im a genius on it but chill.

let go realise that other people can play the music you want to

  • who would i be to say, black men can't play guitars, cos white men played them a long time ago, sounds hitleresque........

look back at artists like son house who started the delta blues movement which later went on to new orleans. he was black however he still played a guitar made by a white man, he was still allowed to do it.

so why should a white man not be allowed to skank on your rules? crazy stuff man

any way i hate youtube arguments they make me shake

    cheers for the conversation

  • I'm getting all "assy" but it was you that called me a cunt to start things off, eh? It sounds "hitleresque" to point out the fact that reggae is a style of music that was used as a tool to stop oppression of blacks by whites in Jamaica. Are you forgetting the roots of reggae or do you just not know them at all? I am not exactly sure with you.

  • funny to see you speak about reggae, but say nothing but ignorant hate. music is music, i hope one day you get beside yourself and enjoy the music or listen to something that does not argue over something so simple, to arge over petty things like that make you more simple minded than racist bigots

  • @subsamadhi Idiot the one who says this is reggae... This is experimental dub music with some latin roots on it.

  • since when is dub not reggae? Dub IS reggae music. YOU are the idiot here. "You are dumb for calling a genre of reggae music as such without putting the moniker of 'dub' in front of it"...LOL get a life.

  • @subsamadhi It's a subgenre, almost always instrumental, so you can't go on saying everywhere that this is shit reggae music... It's dub, and if you don't like it, well get the fuck out of the video and stop fighting with everybody... YOU need a life.

  • I thoroughly enjoy discussing things on here, but when someone is wrong, I point it out. It seems to me that today's reggae fans don't know a whole lot about the subject. Dub goes back to roots reggae in the 70's. To say that it is "almost always instrumental" is wrong as well. Dub is apparent in the majority of reggae from 80's through today. It's the norm, not the subgenre.

  • @subsamadhi All i'm seeing from you is how you show your wisdom about how much you know about reggae music, aha... I can understand tha Dub music comes from the reggae. However, Dub music have a lot of influences in other genres, such as electronic music and ambient music, even fucking rocksteady. You can't go saying that this is a shit. I understand that you don't like it, it's ok... But why coming here and starting a fight with fucking everybody? I know there is some stupid people ----

  • @subsamadhi who says that reggae it's just about listening to Bob Marley and smoking pot... but come on, let's be serious and don't call shit or ignorant to the people who enjoys

  • yeah I understand. To each his own. Fighting is fun sometimes though =0. It was interesting when I said on here that reggae's roots are as a black form of protest music against how they were being treated by whites in Jamaica how that made everyone flip their wigs at me.

  • @subsamadhi At that point i think you're right, reggae music is not only about peace and love, it reflects a lot of the political and religious situations at that moment. So i think everything cool between you and i hehee...

  • @subsamadhi their music... sorry for the long comment.

  • @subsamadhi is this considered dub

  • @hermanmerman18 why the fuck does it matter what it's considered? It's just good music. No need for labels, man.

  • Peter Tosh, Pablo Moses, Ras Michael, Augustus Pablo, etc.=reggae

Sublime, these guys, long beach dub all stars= poop

  • yeah, again the same stupid assholes who think they know what reggae is about keep blocking my comments. Today's reggae fans can kiss my ass. Give me roots reggae from the 60's and 70's above John Frusciante playing with a bunch of suckers.

  • Sip your hater-aid elsewhere.

  • so many thumbs down in the comments...

  • Ikey @ 2:15 - 2:20 is badass!

  • YEAAAA!! I just came! FK! I LOVE THOSE KEYS!

  • hehe, is about the soul the something that cant be taught or learnt through just guitar/ music playing. I enjoy being a wanker just as much as everyone else but i still say enjoy what you like.

  • Look at all those emotions! You can really hear it when people play with emotion or not, and they do!

  • Comparing Wes Montgomery to John Frusciante is comparing apples and oranges. Two diff. styles of music. Wes openly admitted he didn't know very many chords and also had his same octave sound on most all of his songs. Johnny Smith, Howard Roberts and Barney Kessel can run circles around Wes and Pat. However, comparing a jazz guitarist with John is useless. Compare jazz with jazz and rock with rock. If you put one guitarist over another, its only from personal preference.

  • reggae is beautiful music

  • it is. maybe people are misinterpreting my comment. I just think it's goofy when white guys try to do reggae because it just doesn't sound right. That's all. I have a deep respect for reggae.

  • reggae has no color man.

  • Labeling reggae with a race takes all of its meaning out.

  • there's only one white guy there, and his not in the band

  • I think it's funny that people are all uppity about me making fun of white guys in reggae bands. Vanilla Ice is a total punchline.

  • there not white

  • I realize that. I'm talking about all these idiots who keep telling me not to make fun of white guys playing reggae music. These are the same people who probably think Eminem is a great rapper, or that reggae and other genres of music sound good when white people play them. I'm white and I'm fully willing to admit that white people have sucked (for the most part) at co-opting other forms of music.

  • what do you think of the band bad brains?

  • I like bad brains. Yeah, black people invented rock music, and an all black hardcore band is rare for some reason. Catch my drift?

  • so, you say black people invented rock music, I agree! they invented music, so what do you think of white people playing rock music?

  • listen to the minor threat song " guilty of being white"

  • yeah, I've heard it. I'm just pointing out to the hippy idiots on youtube that reggae wasn't about multi-culturalism or whatever, thought that's not a bad goal. It was very racial and still is for that matter. The tepid poseurs who do reggae are the ones who are the guys talking about it being multi racial and yadda yadda yadda but that doesn't stop the best reggae from being all black and all militant.

  • what music and bands do you like and listen too?

  • so you are not down with sublime or slightly stoopid?

  • both those bands suck. I spent 25 years of my life in Long Beach (born and raised). Don't care about either one of them.

  • Sounds like you are one of those people who try to be different by not liking stuff. Instead of liking it. HATE HATE HATE

  • I fail to understand how liking old reggae makes me "different". That's like saying that because I prefer jazz from the 20's as per today's jazz music that it is somehow "unique" like there aren't a ton of people out there who would agree with me. Old reggae is better than white guys doing it today. I prefer authenticity over poseurs. That's all. Give me the authentic version of anything over the imitators.

  • who gives a fuck about the god damn list, just watch the video.

  • everyone can talk shit like "oh i play guitar im so good this is shitty." but honestly can you prove it, and secondly, does that make you feel cool to say it on youtube?

  • can anybody know where i can get this song? or can you joel frusciante send me this song ? this is just amazing !!! my favorite musicians sharing amazing power of music

  • just uses pentonic and and basic minor chords, sorry Kurt Roseninkel is ten times better and those are the just facts

  • your comment pretty much sums up what i can't stand about people that can't see past the theory in a piece of music...

  • He uses those to create such an intense and wide range of emotions and feelings .. also grooves. And he hasn't even come close to exhausting expressive opportunities of the mathematical constructs he plays in. By the way he generally uses the natural minor scale and does not shy away from a major chord

  • the sensible guy in me says: brilliant jam

the voyeur in me wishes it was a relic from john's dark days.

    anyways, brilliant

  • It's a shame you don't usually here that much of Ikey because when you do it's always amazing.

  • mmm, what a monstrous presence on keyboards

  • yup de facto is not what we like to call mars volta if u guys dont have their shit get it.

    peace

p.s. john is great and my fav to like a lot of u guys but stay of the dudes ball sack, chill and live ur life

  • if you hate john don't bother saying it here, you're just gonna get like 1000 replies saying you're wrong

  • i like this man, this is like a cliche of all of the seperate bands all melding together.. thers long beach dub all stars on keys, rhcp on guitar, and mv with the rest.. awesome i love it

  • John is the greatest.

  • To all the lame bastards!John is one of the greatest in his style of playing. SIGNATURE SOUND !

  • looks like its raining pretty hard

  • ja, pendejo

  • If there wasnt a video i would think this was the beastie boys and john cause it sounds jus like a beastie insturmental.

  • ill never forgive myself for missing this set. RIP J.WARD AND DEFACTO

  • So you are like the others then? You do not respect the wishes of the taper?

This video is being pubicly displayed without the consent of the taper.

You are helping to distribute this without the tapers consent. So if the taper get's in trouble, YOUR coming along for the ride. Understand?

  • i love these guys. these guys are genius.

    de fact ! love you.

omar, cedric, john, and isiah. and possibly jeremy in the corner?

  • John is the second Hendrix. I know what I'm talkin bout cause I know every song of Jimi an he'd be proud that there's someone who can play like him!

John, see you on 1st July in Hamburg! x]

  • neither do you, if you say frusciante sucks. dont hate. i agree with you about srv being the next hendrix, but he studied hendrix. ive seen the chili peppers 4 times, john always surprises me.

  • heheh just because john isnt doing much in that stone vidoe he sucks? your an idiot

im not arguing about the SRV thing, but dont judge john off a photoshoot

  • im not judging him just off this video, dude come on hes not good, good players are scofield, mayer, clapton, trucks, bramhall, ect...

  • In that case I highly recommend some Live Chili like Slane Castel DVD or Hyde Park. Also im saying hes great in comparison today...Clapton wouldnt count, yes Mayer and Trucks are also amazing but John is right up there with them. Also John reminds me of Page in that his ability is wide spread, he doesnt only play the blues he can play a wide variety, and I love that characteristic in a guitarist.

  • dude are you a guitar playeror ar u just a fan, people just think hes good because he famouse or was on rolling stone. what u should ask yourself is if this guy was just a local guitar player would he stick out as good, or just be another average joe?

  • I do play guitar, if he was a local I would think hed stand out. Did you listen to the shit I reccomended? you ddint even give him a chance, so theres no changing your mind.

  • John Frusciante is one of the world's best living guitarists...Period! Anyone who says otherwise either can't hear properly or hasn't heard him play live.

  • Opinions are like assholes.....everybody has one! Let's not argue about this, you obviously don't like John Frusciante and that's fine. Saying he sucks is ridiculous, but that's the kind of comment I'd expect from a 19 year old so no hard feelings.

  • well u blow ass yourself, so of course u think hes good

  • if you don´t like frusciante... what are you doing here?

  • jajajaja si claro pendejo John se cogio a tu mama y por eso eres un maldito resentido.

hahaha yeah right fucker, John fucked your mom that's why you have hard feelings againts him. no prob we all KNOW he's the best so please...go fuck yourself or...tell your dad to do it for you :-)...no hard feelings...see ya bro! hablamos despues maricote

  • ahhh you idiot!!!

  • stupid people assigning music to a certain race... IGNORANT

  • I'm not assigning anything, feel free too infact. Just I don't think a struggle free white guy like clapton for example can sing about something like the blues when that genre came about from slaves singing in the cotton fields. I'm not saying white people havent had struggles either but hopefully you can see what I'm getting at. And before you label me as a racist or something ridiculous, I'm white and looking at that comment now god knows why I wrote it, it must'v been in reply to something.

  • Clapton's had a pretty damned hard life. He's been addicted to heroin, his son died. I think he's got some blues to sing about.

  • i dont really consider him a blues guitarist. his lyrics are very bluesy and depressing.

  • HAHA!! mayer.. better than john?? yeah right

  • loooooooooooooooooooooool

  • @daniella9876 Music is not competition we can not tell who is better

  • @daniella9876 Fuck.. I love both John´s and I have to say that they are both incredible but the thing is that THEY ARE DIFFERENT! you cant never compare both! Its like to compare Metallica and Bob Marley..

  • tool......

  • i can understand if you think other players are better than john but to say that john sucks is just plain stupid

  • no one is "better"

    just different styles

john has a style all his own, and he puts more soul into his playing than faggots like john mayer could ever comprehend

just because he's not super fast like say, mclaughlin or steve ray, doesn't mean he's an inferior player

you can criticize all the "100 players better than john" you claim to know from one aspect or another, but what it all comes down to is individual style.

plus, they're all way better than you anyways, so shut your mouth.

  • not trying to argue with you but i have seen this man play as fast as he wants to..

  • thats one video you moron. All those people specialise in the blues, he's creating something slightly less repetative than that, and a bit more original. And don't go listing all those players like you have previously I like all john Mclaughlin n what not, but you can hardly say this guy isnt good?

  • this is the problem, rolling stone makes a big bullshit list of greatist guitar players when they know nothing about guitar i mean have u even checked out kurt roseninkel he is one of the best out there right now and did he make the list of course not but frusciante did, he does not by any means suck but his playing level is in the middle when it could be at the top

  • that list was such bollocks tho , you got people like jack white in there for christs sake. That shite shouldn't be taken seriously atall.

  • are kidding me? have you heard jack white's solos?

  • its more about the art and music the make not just there technical skill guitar

  • wow

  • but you cant really compare Frusciante with the likes of SRV, Hendrix and even Mayer. They have COMPLETLY different styles. Frusciante is my favourite because of the emotions he puts in to his music, not because he can rip a blues 12. I love John Mayer as a close second BECAUSE i can rip a blues 12. Just different styles love for both of them.

  • i agree totally. john is so innovative but his influences are definitely there & thats the great thing about him. he makes everything his own & thats why he's original. he learned a lot from hendrix & although his style is unique its often not far from home

  • wow, this looks like a line up of my favourtie (alive) muscians being a band, awesome

  • john frusciante is amazing!!

  • its kind of strange to see cedric on the drums

    he doesnt suck

  • the fact that all of you douchebags are arguing about who's a better guitar player proves that you probably shouldn't even be listening to this.

  • agree!

  • Playing a little fast and loose with the word "proves" aren't we?

  • Actually, omars first intstrument was bass... Later on he started playin guitar

  • acrobatic tenement

  • stooooops right, that bass player is the best guitarist in the world, and f's up the bass like the musical genius he is!

  • you're awesome. keep saying stuff like this

  • you've lost it son! Thats Omar Rodriguez Lopez. But Clearly you dont know much about anything here so piss off.

  • omar is awesome.

  • i think that he is a little overrated. i mean, hes a good guitarist and very innovative but hes not this god everyone makes him out to be.

  • are you talking about omar or john? either way its the feelings they put into the music that makes them gods in the eyes of a lot of people. if you take their playing and break it down you'll find that they focus most on emotion rather than speed. its about playing the feelings not the notes & thats what make them 'gods' b.c they use the instrument to communicate.

  • well yes, as do any musicians. i just do not like to consider another human being a "god". a scholar, a innovator, theologist. those are all forms that i would use to describe human beings. not "god".

  • awesome videos man, lucky as shit you saw de facto!

  • I'm sure Omar and John have all these things on their mind too.

  • yeah seriously. listen to the mars volta. you hear that lead guitar soloing your nuts off? that's omar.

  • you kidding me? the bass player is freaking Omar Rodriguez, shut yo mouth, son

  • cedric looks too big for the drums, like hes playing on a toy set from argos

  • he just has the cymbals low and no floor tom.

  • good video, john is amazing.
