Dub goes back to roots reggae in the 70's. To say that it is "almost always instrumental" is wrong as well. Dub is apparent in the majority of reggae from 80's through today. It's the norm, not the subgenre.

Comparing Wes Montgomery to John Frusciante is comparing apples and oranges. Two diff. styles of music. Wes openly admitted he didn't know very many chords and also had his same octave sound on most all of his songs. Johnny Smith, Howard Roberts and Barney Kessel can run circles around Wes and Pat.  However, comparing a jazz guitarist with John is useless. Compare jazz with jazz and rock with rock. If you put one guitarist over another, its only from personal preference.

In that case I highly recommend some Live Chili like Slane Castel DVD or Hyde Park. Also im saying hes great in comparison today...Clapton wouldnt count, yes Mayer and Trucks are also amazing but John is right up there with them.
