Human beings are capable of incredible acts of bravery, as well as savagery. Hard as nails.
While I can't condone SOME of the IRAs methods - and it's easy to debate from an armchair from outside the situation - I am immensely admiring of the IRA for their dedication to their people. Altho not as much history as northern irelands "troubles"In Holland.sadly we had problems between catholics and protestants in the 50's but thanks to a policy of mixing both religions together as well as a huge effort of intergration with politicians , education, role models from both communities we managed to all get along fine and thus never had to face our "troubles". Unfortunately someone then blew a large hole in the roof of the school gymnasium and her parents transferred her to Suffolk, England instead.

@Nathooo11 Some got caught, others didn't, and 1 was never heard from again.
The ones caught were released under the Good Friday Agreement, those who wernt caught became free mem and no longer wanted from 2003 onwards.

@Nathooo11 IRA today are no more under the good friday agreement, they dissolved and the IRA Army Council Broke up and any IRA activity in Ireland is being watched over by the Independent Monitoring Commission (IMC) followed by a priest from the catholic and protestant church to ensure naturality
The IRA are not stupid, they did carefully fight the british empire not once but twice (1916-1921) and (1969-1998)
The IRA that broke out and never found again lived their lives in europe, usa etc

@cowerofshunts Your welcome. Actually my wife went to boarding school for a few years in County Armagh and still has many Northern Irish friends both Protestant and Catholic. Unfortunately someone then blew a large hole in the roof of the school gymnasium and her parents transferred her to Suffolk, England instead.
Just hope that whatever happens for the sake of all future generations that there is peace.

Never understood why the British Army didn't utilise one of their greatest weapons in Northern Ireland. As they proved in the Falklands when the Argentines just surrendered rather than fighting them. So a prison that was not designed to hold individuals who were part of an organization, call it what you like, and did not seem to have metal detectors was used to hold IRA prisoners. Worst security ever.

1983 - Metal detectors were not used in jails until the 1990s - First Appearing in America.

That goes for a prison that calls itself "most secure" or even a business that thinks it will never go bankrupt.
Remember,here in America Alcatraz was a lot like those H blocks.
All of America thought Alcatraz was un-escapable.
Yet an intelligent group like our IRA brothers at MAZE did in fact escape from Alcatraz.
NOTHING is 100% secure.
It all depends on what type of plan you have and how you utilize the flaws of that location.
