@MBsaturnus After you squish them on the road do you go back and pick them up for soup? You sound like the type of redneck hillbilly that would eat anything.
@Thisisgoingnowhere1 You just have to make sure you handle them by the tail, and nowhere else. Trust me, I've handled baby snappers before and never gotten bitten.
WARNING TO YOU BONEHEADS AND YOUR DUMB BUDDIES: NEVER ATTEMPT TO HANDLE A WILD SNAPPING TURTLE! OR ANY WILD TURTLE FOR THAT MATTER!
@mzminis Not if its put in a turtle tank it would never last. It's always meant for decor/food. My tank has a goldfish feeder but my turtles cant killl it because of its size. so for now it looks nice. they only eat minnows at the moment.
@Robbysass When I was like 10 I always bought those little feeder fish from wal-mart, and damn near everyone of them lived for about a year and a half after that, I still got two that I bought as feeder fish like 4 yrs ago.
Are all of you guys retards?!?!?! the alligator snapping turtle is not ILLEGAL. And all of you lunatics who think it has its mouth open because it was caught from the wild....HELLO....them opening their mouth is a innate behavior. its how they catch their fish.. they have a worm like appendage on their tongue that resembles a worm and attracts fish. if they didnt open their mouth their would be no way to see the appendage.... if any of you passed 10th grade biology you would know this.....
actually i hear they grow to 10 inches in only a couple of years... better start thinking about it! unless its a female which dont grow as big... nice turtle man!
i have a little slider turtle.. but i had a baby common snapper for about 3months b4 putting him back in the lake i worked at.. he was fun to watch as he chased down minnos but how do you people with full grown snappers handle them w/o getting bit? i mean just getting them outta the tank seems like it would be risky for your fingers.. just wondering...
Just thought I'd let you know, you should limit the amount of goldfish that your snapper eats, or eliminate them from the diet completely because they have a hard time digesting all the copper sulfate and in the goldfish...i lost an alligator snapper that way...they"ll seem fine and then their whole body can shut down within hours...not fun =/
second comment of mine on this vid, are alligator snappers harder to take care of than the common snappers? are they illegal in chicago? wat can they eat only feeder fish and worms and pellets right? wat is the correct way to handle a snapper?
hey, nice RES..Alligator snappers are easy to take care of when they are young. When they get to be adults they get very large. They will eat what ever you drop in the tank. Never feed any turtle pellets, feed them what they would catch in the wild, fish, crayfish, worms etc. the best way to handle a snapper is to place your hand under the carapace and lift, use your other hand to grasp the tail for balance only. once committed hold on or lose a finger.
yeah thanks...(i subed) yeah i heared that common snappers are more aggressive and i want to get this turtle or a mata mata, but a matamata is to expensive and alligators are cheaper and require a little less care at the expense of danger, do u know were i can order one? i cant seem to find any anywere. alos how old are your snappers and how big?
Dude, Mata Matas are awesome. Don't get me wrong. But it's kind of ugly. It's high maintenance. and if you have leaves in the bottom of your tank, you may lose it lol
LOL they own! I live in South Carolina and after hurricane lots of water was outside and i found a poor little Alligator snapper in my breezeway of my condo and kept him for a while and then let him go. I want it back cus it was so cool! :(:(
