  • It's just a commercial, no need to go nuts in this one. Comedians make fun of everything. Just take a joke

  • yea right! an almost 5-min commercial...booooringgg..

  • so what is wrong with being dark and plump? don't most african women have curves and dark skin?

  • dat was so funny

  • Vodafone could do with some sensitivity training. Regardless of the market, bias and discrimination are the same. The ad was well done except for the blatant size and color bias!!

  • The commercial was cute (kinda funny too) but I am extremely disturbed about the dark skinned and plump comment. The commercial could have done with out that. Its sad how the media constantly teaches us to hate our beautiful "dark" skin complexion and our beautiful "plump" bodies. smh. smh

  • Dear the rest of the world: as a fellow Ghanaian, I can attest to the fact that not all of us are this ignorant/colorist/downright stupid. While a majority of the population feels this way, not all of us do.

This commercial made me sick only because I know so many DARK skinned Africans who feel their lighter counterparts are superior to them. It will NEVER end. The white man did a number on us that will continue to destroy our communities until we realize we're fine the way we are.

  • @vodafoneGhana Well I'm dark skinned so I supposed based on that advert Vodaphone is not for me. So I will spend my money elsewhere. How insulting in 2011 that such colonial attitudes still exist.

  • @VodafoneGhana you really could've maintained humour without playing on sensitive stereotypes. for all your education and aspirations towards being the international 'afro bourgoise', you are totally primitive and hopelessly backward.

  • for such a good quality ad,its just sad you had to play on colour and size...thereby alientating some loyal subscribers who are trying to relate to your product. Ghanians are traditionally dark-skinned, and Ghanians are good looking people generally, in all their shades. for you to 'jokingly' imply that the dark, plump chic (who mind you, many other men would be interested in), shows how Africans, and not the west are our own enemies. for you to publicly perpetuate that is really low of you.

  • lol i saw this commercial when i was in Ghana, i must have missed the dark skin part

  • all you guys talkin about skin color...racism etc sure are idiots! the skin color was defined to show an exact opposite to the main character naa. doesn't the average ghanaian understand sarcasm/irony?? smh. you people are disappointing. i really enjoyed this...too funny.

  • @ooohlawrence I doubt he would have responded with "true beauty is on the inside" if the "opposite" description wasn't meant to be negative. How do you not see anything wrong with that?

  • @ooohlawrence

don't you think you went far by insulting people who feel offended? Discrimination is a big issue (which is been used by some political parties in Europe. As an African (a Ghanaian living in France), I find it really disappointing that these kind of ideas are been spread in Ghana no matter how it is done (sarcasm or not).

  • I thought over here in America, us blacks were worse but damn, in Africa? They made darkskin fat and ugly....Im light skinned and im offended by this commercial.

  • @Tiphany757 we are our own enemies, here. we teach others how to treat us, associating skin tone with social status, and then we get mad at racists. i think all blacks have that tendency

  • Damn!! lmao!!! i dunno y i find 2:40 so hilarious!!! jajajajajajjajaja!!!

  • @makeupbygloria i agree with u , i mean yes i am light skin, but it was very stupid of her to use it and the expression on the guys face, disrespectful!!

  • The dark skinned girl other is more beautiful than her n her smile is teribble. Is a good ad but spoiled it for me.

  • I love it!!!

  • love the ad, i understand why people are angry, but don't forget commercials use sarcasm, humor, steroetype etc

  • @utubeyaw yea even if they reinforce damaging stereotypes and illogical idealogies at least it's funny hahahahahaha *sarcasm*

    bah bah sheep keep laughing.

  • the best commercial i've seen in gh

  • is that wanlov kubolo's sis, deborah?

  • Hmm... Controversial, but I'll still say kudos for great video quality.

  • This commercial was written and directed by black Ghanaians for a Ghanaian market, they were talking about fellow Africans. However, we will make sure all the comments are considered for any future ads.

  • @VodafoneGhana Foolishness. What does that even mean. '...they were talking about fellow Africans'? Makes no sense. Fix up

  • @VodafoneGhana That's very dismissive of your responsibility in ensuring that you do not alienate the market that you are trying to sell into. You already admitted below that by and large the idea was run past your own teams before being launched, so this comment sounds like a defence after the backtrack below. It would be better if you revised the advert completely. Next time get advice from marketing professionals.

  • I think this commercial would have sold to all people if brains behind it eliminated the sort of discrimination.***Are you trying to say that, dark skin is unpleasant? Don't forget that in Africa,we are dark. Both thumbs are down on this commercial.

Try a better approach next time.

  • @makeupbygloria

We are happy to discuss any comments or concerns any viewer has about our ads, and we are sorry you were upset by its use however, please refrain from using foul and abusive language on our site as this may also cause insult to our viewers/readers.

  • i'm upset about the dark skinned part.. that wasnt necessary..

  • @DivaAngel7J

Hi Diva. We are sorry you took offence to the use of 'dark skinned' in our advert. We certainly did not intend to cause you or any viewer any upset. In all cases we run scripts and ideas past a large team of Vodafone and agency staff prior to making any TV or radio ad. This is to ensure we are not causing any offence. However, we will take note of your comments and try to do better next time. Should you wish to visit our offices to discuss this in person please get in touch.

  • @VodafoneGhana That comment was very unnecessary and your reply does not explain or justify the level of ignorance displayed.

There is no way that you can justify this advertisement, it's not only offensive but plays into the hands of the oppressors, need I say more. Read Wille Lynce's letter 'The Making of a Slave' because clearly your company and your marketing team need to be educated.

  • @VodafoneGhana Ghana is a land of black people who come in all shades and to still carry the ignorant view that light is beauty whilst black is ugly is ridiculous and I cannot believe your excuse. The vodaphone and agency staff need to get a lesson in the problems that face the black community all over the world because if this comment is okay to them then they truly do not understand the impact of words. Imagine the impact on our dark skinned children let alone adults. Educate yourselves!

  • @VodafoneGhana either your "large team of Vodafone and agency staff" are all white, coconuts or severely imperceptive, or you are a completely tactless brand. please do not take for granted our loyalty to your brand as customers, refrain from giving us reasons to associate you with negativity.

  • aaa isn't that boy Fritz? oo yea it is!

  • LOVE THIS!

  • i ike it
