At around 2:00, should it have been a reverse turnover? It seemed like the American guy (I don't know who it was, Beau maybe?) had an interception which means he had possession of the disc. If he DID have possession of the disc and dropped it, I thought it was supposed to be a turnover. I could be wrong, I don't know. Anybody see what I'm seeing?
This clip demonstrates how the Japanese mixed Ultimate team has made a science and an art out of getting positive outcomes out of high-risk situations.
I'm glad Japan won and made it into the final to meet USA again, it goes to show that even a team with quite a substantial height disadvantage can still beat a tall and fast team. Props to Japan!
the Japanese player was within his disc space (look at the feet after the US guy establishes his pivot) so pretty much any contact is a defensive foul since its an illegal mark
before his throw, i think it's quite clear that he caught the disc first, and then hopped forward, which is a travel in the first place.
but lets say its not a travel. is the jap obligated to take a step back? because he was clearly there first. this is a very different situation as compared to when a defender comes forward to stall; the offense barged into him imo.
maybe, I thought he hopped just before he caught it so where he landed was fine.
also the only time its not a defensive foul is when the offensive player is the sole cause of the contact. Japanese player isn't required to back off but when the US guy pivots the Japanese player contacts his arm. I wouldn't say he caused the contact so much but I don't think the US player is the sole cause for that contact.
Well, I tried to pan past the large score board in the bottom center of the field, but didn't manage to get it in frame every time on the pulls like I tried. Oh well.

actually now that I look at it it was more the knee and arm, they prevent a clear pivot hence an illegal mark.
