Precious depicted the life of so many people in the US and around the world. The actors depicted the impact of poverty on everyone locked into a hopeless world of deprivation. It also showed that everyone can be resilient with the right people helping them discover the essence of who they are and can become. Gabourey and Mo'Nique deserve Oscars. They broght the characters to life, there was not line of demarcation between the character and the action. They were the characters they played.

I grew up in Southeast DC and I am African American, so I know what the local dialect is. And it may or may not indicate someones education level any more than it may indicate their willingness to conform to the mainstream accent. Mainstream meaning, the widely accepted and the most understandable.

I like this interview, but "like a black girl" comment threw me off. What does a "black girl" sound like? There are so many different facets of black women, there is no such thing as a black girl sound. I hope she meant "stereotypical", because the black women I converse with do not talk like that.

I get what you're saying. I'm black, but whne I talk a lot of pple no matter the color say that I sound white. Even when I speak on the phone and then meet them in person they always end up telling me that they thought that I was white. I guess since we speak proper and we are black makes it so shocking when pple hear us.

It's unfortunate, but a lot of people don't know black people beyond what they see on tv...and those people are usually highly stereotyped....you're going to hear a lot of people describe Gabby as "articulate" which is a back handed insult as far as I'm concerned. She sounds like all my black friends and my family... black speech doesn't equal inarticulate.

Blaccent? You've gotta be kidding. I loved her ability to make Precious so real for us all. I'm sure she'll get Oscar nods for her work. But in this particular interview it's like she's still acting - just a different character.

What I've seen of her she's very talented. She has a very pretty face, but I wish she would really think about losing some weight. I want her to be around for a long time.
