But from what I have seen at the few conventions I have been too, and also from my friends who do the judging of AMVs at these conventions, people seem to like the Funny AMVs and dismiss serious work such as this one.
Personally, I haven't seen another AMV, that's not by Maboroshi Studio, that is just as powerful and emotional as this one.
I welcome examples.... but I haven't seen anything that is at this level yet.
This music id from the sound track to the 1989 movie Glory. It was composed by James Horner. This particular track is titled "Charging Fort Wagner". It is a wonderful trank. However, the entire soundtrack is wonderful.
You can actually hear the soundtrack to Glory on many comertials and even other movie promos.
Well there is another composition used for movie promos that sounds VERY similar to Charging Fort Wagner. However, the melodic line is slightly different.
I think you are referring to O Fortuna from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, and yes Charging Fort Wagner is heavily influenced by it, if not too much, as in ripped off. Still both good pieces.
It's too bad that he would receive flack for this! I have seen this other work online (however his site is down now) and I am impressed so much with his work. I have not seen many AMVs that succeed with instrumental music only.
You might be interested to know that I knew Joe when he made this Video. He took a lot of grief at the time for 'spoiling' the ending of the Shishio arc. A great vid, and if you ever get the chance to watch his other work I recommend it. Especially the Fist of the North Star/aerosmith combination. Its too bad that most of these were made prior to the advent of youtube...
pretty cool

It's a great soundtrack! It was actually the first CD I ever got. Let me know what you think of it.
Other soundtracks I recommend:
Empire of the Sun
Far and Away
Stargate
Schindler's List
The guy who made this AMV, Maboroshi Studio, also made AMVs using the themes from Far and Away. Empire of the Sun, and Stargate.
You can see these AMVs and the others he made on my site.
