Death couldn't even be called Death Metal since the time Individual Thought Patterns was released, lyrically Chuck started writing about psychology and other topics, also his arrangements had started to get stronger and more progressive. Essentially Death turned into Progressive Metal, then Control Denied was started and Death had stopped, and it became even more progressive.

@Megadedly think "Scream Bloody Gore" late Death did not inspire the name, that was early Death, so you have to compare to the early releases by Death. So to compare them, you find the same growling vocal style, some similarities in the instrumentation (I don't have tabs for either so I can't really compare in too much detail) of course there will be differences, but don't say you need gore lyrics to be Death Metal, that is just wrong.

The lyrical content is not a large part of the genre's definition, the instrumentation and the Growling are far more important.

Augury doesn't play pick sweeps for an hour and call it an album. That's why I like them better: The Faceless' guitarist plays these sloppy, similar sounding riffs in every song. Augury actually attempts to not be the most technical band on the planet. Just cause you can play a 20 pick sweeps in 30 seconds doesn't make a band good.
