  • IT IS VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL!!! The original of course is no 1 with out a doubt but this is a AMAZING version. I have been a fan ever since my high school years (46 this year), wonderful to know how many people still are interested and how classic Genesis music really is - it is timeless, the band ever existed, and BTW it's not a pop group as somebody here wrote.

  • Has Tony Banks heard your version? He would be thrilled.

  • @duarteluder Thanks. I have certainly sent him materials and he has spoken of my work in some interviews. I am hoping he gave it a go; I'm sure he gets lots of things in the mail.

  • Tony Banks must be proud of you to preform his music like

    this.

    This is fantastic, congratulations.

I have been a Genesis fan since 1979 and listen to all there staff.

    This is the best ever

    Regards from Sweden

  • Brilliantly played. What amazes me is how good the music is for a pop group. It is semi-classical in nature.

  • Absolutely stunning. My goal is to play this before I die.

I'm new to piano and have a long journey ahead.

I doubt even Antony banks could play it this good.

  • Should read "from the album Genius on Piano"

  • This is good, but it's not fast enough

  • 5.48 love the sound fading at this point with the delicate piece played over the top.

  • Hello, I use to play the piano for long. Firth of fifth favourite, I manage to learn it with just a little small tape machine in the beginning, 30 years ago it was a deal task for me, and helped me to become good enough at the piano. Your Version that shows a deep understanding of Firth of fifth is wonderful, very close at the beginning, and really facinating in all the rest of the song, somewhat more romantic and relaxing. Gratitude for your great work! I can still play it but it's different.

  • @markusmala Thank you very much. :)

  • @verity9000 I think I have to buy your sheet book about genesis I played some of the songs with the first publication of the time and of course listening to the records, like one for the vine, A trick of the tail, from the undertow, Burning rope, Heathaze and some others, it was big job, but was happy to deal with things I loved, I forgot a bit because of lack practising. But I will be forever fascinated by this music, and try again in my time space. Thanks for your dedication.

  • I want to learn this piece. Where can I buy your beret?

  • @Japanzor The beret is not for sale. But the sheet music is. :)

  • I love this rendition, Tony would be impressed.

  • Is there any place I can find sheet music for this version?

  • Thank you for your interest. You can purchase the book of manuscript I have published through my website. DavidMyersMusic.ca

  • Great! Congratulations David!!

  • How great Tony Banks was/is!

  • Thank you all for the very kind comments! Yes, it's a Bechstein, it is not mine. It is pretty much brand new. I don't have any particular brand allegiance, but I the 9-foot I decided to buy was a Baldwin SD-10 and I loved it! Had to sell it at one point. When I move to a bigger space in the near future, it will be time to look for another one.

  • Methinks you're playing a Bechstein there, yes? Is it yours? I rarely get to tune Bechsteins, and the ones I see are typically pretty old and in need of some work. Very nicely done, David!

  • wow! awesome!!! Love it

  • I want to learn to play piano, I want to learn this song, and I want to play it like you do.

  • @diegoagramajo Ok, that's gotta be one of the best compliments ever. Thanks and good luck!

  • absolutely gorgeous

  • Bravo!

  • This isn't just merely a "piano-only cover", this is an extremely tasteful reinterpretation of a masterpiece.

    Truly amazing.

  • Thank you very much for your kind comments, I'm glad you are enjoying the videos.

The sheet music is available at

    DavidMyersMusic.ca

  • Very nice! Is it possible to purchase the music for this arrangement?

  • My Favorite Genesis song of all time performed by a master!! You must be very proud !!

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. nailed and awesome.

  • amazing.....!!!

  • Is that your hair or are you wearing a hat? Anyway..less of that, the intro to this always sends a shiver down my spine.

  • Superb. I bet Tony couldn't play that now.

  • buona esecuzione però l'ultima parte mi sembra che la mano sinistra sia simile a quella della parte iniziale e invece nella parte originale ci sono degli accordi diversi...più difficili..

  • Briliant! you are a very talented pianist, very emotional playing and i am sure Tony would be proud of you

  • ..the path is clear! Great!

  • Outstanding interpretation and performance. Fantastic indeed!

  • It's wonderfull ! could you perhaps make an unimprovised version of the whole firth of fifth ? I think you could make the best cover available ! would be lovely

  • Loved it! Unbelievable!

  • Perfect a+++

  • this is so impressive I cried

  • Speechless! Inspiring! Keep up the awesome work. Blessings.

  • Absolutly amazing!!!!

  • FANTASTIC! Superb arrangement and a great tribute to the genius of Tony Banks! Bravo!

  • Grandissimo interprete di Mr. Banks. Il migliore! Maybe better than Tony! (I'm a Tony's fan!)

  • Wonderful!! Bravo Mr. David!!!!

  • O único Firth or Fifth interpretado como Tony Banks, esse cara é excepcional.

  • esto es perfecto!!!!!!!!!

  • Bravo! The last part is so beautiful and soothing, even cathartic!

  • the beautiful interpretation of this song! congratulation!

  • amazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing...Mr. Hackett should ask you to go on tour with him!!!

  • That's art.

  • Fantastic!

  • Bravoooooooooooooo !!!!! Mister David!!

juste la chaire de poule en écoutant et c est juste Pefect !!!!

Merci Pierre D. , mon ami for that !!!

et Merci à Martin too , my holland new friend ;)))

  • Lovely, David! I like the tempo and the dynamics, the harmonies and modulation, the swing (in parts), the pauses and, as ever, the wonderful counterpoint you have woven into Tony's composition. You bring out all the voices of the piece even more clearly than a band could with its various instruments.

Thank you for posting this long version - close up! One sees clearly what a master of the music and the instrument you are. I can't wait to start practicing your arrangement of this piece!
