  • Paul is sooo talented, funny and cute, love hiiiiim <3

  • this reversal-forwards music video inspired me to something like this, i hope i will do something like this!

  • anyone know the background music playing in the first seconds minutes of the video

  • lol a random hi-five marajuana store at 3:17

  • 12 people were so impressed their brain shut down and they accidentally hit the wrong button

  • That's incredible that Darren learned his drum parts backwards. Mad respect for such an incredible, innovative cat. Cheers.

  • backwards singing for the win

  • it must have been frustrating to make that vid, but the end result was great!!

  • was the drummer's segment filmed in London, Ontario?

  • they basically copied jack johnson's video of sittin, waitin, wishin. Wow really original! "no one has ever done it as a band performance"

  • @sou1k33per Jack Johnson wasn't the first either, so you can assume HE was really not original either, and most likely copied coldplay. Notice also he said it 'seemed' like no one has really done it as a band performance. Assuming he's probably never even heard of jack johnson. Furthermore, jack barely had his band involved, unlike this one, where the drummer was actually playing in reverse.

  • @sou1k33per jack johnson only learned how to play the guitar backwards and singing it backwards, but only for the parts he is actually singing it. Mute math has the drummer, singer, bassist, and guitarist playing every instrument, vocals backwards. I like jack johnsons video, but Mute Math attempt at the backwards video is BY A MILE BETTER.

  • HAHA wow that was really funny

well only when Paul sang his part backwards

but still i liked this video

  • dedication

  • how did I JUST hear about this band (thank you pandora). awesome video, i can't imagine the work that goes into memorizing parts backwards but def. worth it. Y'all rock!

  • lol NISMISTHCHA SMOCK!!!! RAAAAAAA! NISMISTHCHA SMOCK!!!! RAAAAAAA!

  • Dude! Whats the Backround Music!?

  • 2:05 - 2:17

    ;')

  • Yellephant - Not all Christians have to be saints, it's people like you that give them a bad name. Telling other people what they can and can't do. In my experience, the most Christian people Atheists who simply lead a life, in which they are happy and make other people happy. "Pain in the ass" isn't an extremely offensive statement, kids can hear it on mid-day TV. It's not like he said "That cunt fucked up my donley raping sesion", get over it. Being offend is part of life, live with it.

  • your awesome, can i have your number?

  • Comment removed

  • @Yellowelephant911 firstly..um how old are you? second mutemath is NOT a fucking Christian group. Earthsuit was. not MM. you Christians need to fucking get it right for a change and not butcher a great band. Also god did not make a fucking commandant that vetoes cussing. and seriously wake the fuck up. the world isnt this beautiful paradise you think it is. it is a fucked up place so you need to stop crying about people saying ass and start concerning your self with something les irrelavent.

  • @Yellowelephant911 seriosly u dont know wut its like to tour round the world as an indpndnt band w/as much enrgy as MM. you dont know wut its like to try to shoot a vid that will help pple apprciate your band and have to put up with all the pain and vigorous work. Idk if you realized it but hard work is A PAIN IN THE ASS. wake up. u need to cut them some slack. LIFE's a PAIN IN THE ASS. sry im rambling but i just cant stand people like you that have to exergerate small stupid shit cuz ur religon

  • @Yellowelephant911 wh should people be more careful about they put on the world wide web? the internet isn't just for christians? and there are things millions times worse than that on the internet? im guessing you're new here...

  • i realize that and i'm sorry. i was just kinda shocked. normally i really dont care but seeing as my little brother was in the room at the time it kind of annoyed me because something i thought ok for a little 6 year old to watch with me, especially after i told him they were a christian band and then have him see that. well... what type of example did that just set? i'm sorry, again.

  • @Yellowelephant911 I don't know what you originally said, but I, for one, agree with you. Christian or not, when someone puts something out in public, there is a reasonable expectation of courtesy to their vastly diverse audience. No, it's not the worst word in the world, but there are probably a hundred and one other ways he could have expressed that frustration just as effectively without offending part of his audience.

  • Definitely one of the hardest working bands right now. and their drummer just boggles my mind

  • @RyleeStrange huge over exaggeration...

  • 2:10 lmao!

  • Daren King is my hero!!

  • Paul bought his Kurzweil keyboard from me. Sweet ass video man. :)

    -Brett, Abigail's Ghost

  • it would mess up the vocals.

  • That's what I thought they did at first, in the music video, you can't really see his mouth well enough to see if his lips are moving exactly with the words. Obviously this band is dedicated to making good music and videos for there fans.

  • have u seen what there doing it would make it alot harder

  • I don't know if you've realized, but the track played in reverse doesn't line up with the track played normally.

So you'll have a video where none of the playing and vocals line up with the music track at all. Which makes for a horrible music video. Then again, you're right--horrible music videos are easier to make.

  • man.. he learned to sing reverse, drummer played the rhythm reverse... and everything lines up :)

  • @toorn2 the drumming alone i'm amazed at, being a drummer myself.

  • dood, ur a goof... they played the whole thing backwards for the video, meaning forwards, but in reverse order... at the beginning of shooting, they played the end of the song... at the end of the shooting, they were playing the beginning... of course the tracks wont line up...

  • mavriksfan11 suggested, "Why would they not just act it out forwards from end to beginning, then run the tape in reverse and record that and then overdub the sounds with the actual track? Much easier."

I was explaining why his idea wouldn't work; his method results in their mouths acting out the end of the song in reverse at the beginning of the song.

  • not as cool. duh

  • Because then the song they play in the video is going backwards, and the soundtrack is going forwards. Unless I'm misunderstanding you, that would fail epically.

  • @StevoDesign They learned to play the song backwards. Riffs, chords, vocals. Everything!

  • Yeah. I know. I was explaining that to somebody else.

  • Darron (the drummer) is my dad's client's lil' bro

  • wat deos he say when he sings backwards?

  • look up mute math forwards, its pretty cool

  • Its not your typical

    lacipyt ruoy ton sti

  • Ahhkkkkk, lick miss shmish das foo shma!

Lol, I was trying to figure out which line it is in the video too.

  • 'Of the typical, of the typical. Say! Im just the typical. Im just the typical.'

    :D

    Thats research. Lol.

  • just watch the video...it explains it all....

  • to corroborate is to confirm something (i.e. a witness' testimony).

  • Frick that is hard for the drummer

  • LOL 2:00

    I laughed SO hard.

  • same here

    loknesmishes snsmah(8)

  • @noobyliw WAAAAK nish mishtishish mah!!!

  • lol. a store named hi-times

  • they didnt need to play the music backwards! they just needed to do the video backwards i think..

  • no it was just to make it look like it it was playing forwards, while crazy stuff was happening that couldn't happen while playing forwards

  • yes they did. if you watch the video, it looks like they are playing their instruments regular. but the video is reversed... therefore, they did have to learn the song backwards!

  • they did it so they knew where there were

  • no cuz then the music would be backwards

  • They played the song backwards so it look forwards on the music video, than they synced the video with the music of them playing it regularly.

  • holy crap

it must've sucked, having to learn everything backwards o_O

  • This is the best music video I've ever seen!

  • haha good catch at 3:18

  • are... are you really MUTEMATH?

  • 3:18 ..... did u see it?

    HI-TIMES!

  • sorry but i really want to know what are we looking at at 3:18??

  • coooooool. thanks for submitting!

  • AWESOME!!!!!!At our church youthgroup ur music vid was music of the month!!! nice job!

  • 2:01

    :p

  • ahahahaha, at 2:06 he sounds like he was swearing in some foreign language..

    xD

  • 2:06 <------------------lol sounds funny!

  • linkin park had an interesting take on the reverse video with Bleed it Out.

I like Mute Math's better though.

  • Even though coldplay did something similar what they did was infinitely easier. These guys put in the real effort to do a whole video backwards. Amazing band, buy their album it ROCKS!

  • that is some crazy shit... i'm too lazy to ever try soething like that... what a pain in the ass!

  • omg, 2:00 is soooo funny!!!!

    "lochleslesckesle smacks, uuuuuahck!!"

  • GMO. how friggin' genius.

  • 2:06 haha lockin nis mis no mah!

  • i thought he said smosh, lol

  • Being the first doesn't seem a thing. Nothing is original anymore and doing something like this the "first" time isn't exactly an amazing thing to happen. It's a music video from a great band and they wanted a unique visual experience. First or not. The effect they wanted was achieved. Get over the rest kids.

  • All I can say is Mutemath is one of the most creative musical groups around. Great vid about a great idea!

  • naagh nigsmish nishmishmah! naagh nigsmish nishmishmah! naagh nigsmish nishmishmah!

  • drummer's incredible!

  • !lacipyt eht fo lleeeeeps eht kaerb I nac

    MUTE MATH RULES!!

  • you guys rock

  • sorry but coldplay wasnt the first to do it.

  • This. Also, as you can see he ADMITS that mutemath aren't the first :P

  • This is not really anything like the scientist... Coldplay isn't performing the song on stage backward. And this video is way ahead of that one in terms of difficulty

  • OMG....AWESOME

  • LOL helios2k6.. you bet he could! eheh

this video is just rad! i love it

  • i love the way they did this video

  • That was pretty awesome. Learning your lines backwards would be a tremendous headache - at least for me.

On a side note, does the lead singer look like someone who could play as Max Payne? Don't ask me where that came from; it just popped into my head.

  • .htametuM sI tahT ssenemosewA eht morf gnitruH sI gnitruH yM

  • I love when he sings backwards.

  • which lines are he singing?

  • i think its im just the typical

  • c'mon dude! you can break the spell of the typical!

  • !ay rof htam etum s'tahT .div yppirt alleh a htiw gnos EMOSEWA nA

  • Marijuana 3:17 :p

  • lol!

  • Spicolli, is that you :)

  • Tripppy.

  • skcor oediv taht

  • .oediv emosewA .drah os kcor yehT !loL !yllatoT

  • HAHA wackoo..

  • You guys are awesome!!! I love the backwards video.

  • " lock nesh mish juish ua UAAAAAAAK UAKKKKK ish mish jish sma"

  • i tried listening it backwards and seriously ._.' i have no idea what it means, haha, its still cute o3o;;

  • The UUUAAAAAAAAk is "CAAAAAAAAL" Of 'Typical" but that's the only thing i can mae of it lol.

  • not quite... in that one they ran a few seconds of tape backwards, and even then not for the entire video, they didn't play the entire song backwards like these guys

  • or preform the song backwords

  • well your hard work payed off as the coolest music video of all time

  • That's true!

  • I like that part where Paul Meany sings backwards haha.

  • they're so good! masters! =)

  • ɥʇɐɯ ǝʇnɯ

  • paul meaney is so cute :)

  • ha! that's awesome.

  • Well done boys. Seems like your group efforts managed to reach "synergy". And there fore boast your results with a smashing video. Congrats. You proved there was no "I" in "TEAM". Wink.

  • logk dis mishdish dush ma,,!!aaaahoc! aaaoch! hahahah! so freekin great.

  • LMAO!!!

  • the drummer is quite hot!

  • Eh, they had to sing the song backwards too. Headaches.....headaches...

  • Notice the pot leaf at 3:17...

  • best music video ever by far!!

  • i love 2:01 to 2:15,its cute...plus he's hot...rock on....

  • i love mute math

    u rock dood

    keep doing good music

blessings and good vibes from panama!

  • it ended up making an amazingly sweet video so i applaud them in all their efforts

  • i agree wit codabear dat was fucking funny

  • Lmao at 2:04 I laughed so hard great video though it was soooo awesome

  • they're a Christian band right?

  • i Don't think so but there's a good chance it's alternative rock jus my opinion

  • The members are Christians, but they don't identify themselves as being a "Christian band"... they'd rather keep their music open to all audiences instead of limiting it.

  • yeah. me and my friends had that argument, wich I won because I said almost the exact same thing you did.

  • Well, it's hard to lose when you already know you're right, haha :)... the only part I didn't like was the part when Roy was talking about the stunts being a pain in his "derrière"

  • I thought it was pretty funny hearing him say "ass" lol

  • i luv'em...

  • I F**KING KNEW IT.

  • wow ...

  • In My opinion Mute Math did it thwe best. Coldplay's video involved no skill. except for singing backwards. Sitting waiting wishing, wasn't as complicated as mutemath's video but equally creative. Mutemath went all out with everything. a completely spectacular band performance.

  • the pharcyde drop their music video was done backwards and that was a WHILE back. butt still i like the mutemath video and i like their sound too its different

  • the backwards video has been done before. i dont remember who it was by but i watched the making of... on MTV like 2-3 years ago.

  • The Scientist by Coldpay. Also Sitting Waiting Wishing by Jack Johnson. Probably more. It's a popular idea but it's usually cool.

  • the drummer is very good looking :)

  • I second that.

  • This was the most innovative music video since the video game idea by the Red Hot Chili Peppers with Californication.

  • Brilliant - is the only word to describe Mutemath, espacially this music video.

Wow. As an aspiring music-video maker, this really opens up an awesome technique to replicate sometime.

  • Oh so brilliant. Typical Mute Math :D

  • crazy

  • DUdes! I LOOOVE YOUR VIDEO! It's the greatest. The song isn't to bad either. ^^

  • omg guys this is amazing! the video looks great and i cant believe all the work u put into it. it's the best/most creative video i've seen in a LONG time!

  • Mutemath = amazing. End of story. I love you guys!

  • I salute these guys' on their hard work and creativity, Mute Math ROCKS!!!

  • At 02:04 (the backward singing part), Paul sounded like a prehistoric being. Hahahaha! Can't believe they have to go through all that; but their hard work produces nothing but a masterpiece. Kudos Guys!

  • ahhhh does anyone else think that paul is /extremely/ attractive?

  • totally!!!

  • spectacular

  • This is so awesome! I can't stop laughing at the part where Paul is singing backwards...it's so hard to tell what he's saying. I keep watching that part over and over xD xD xD

  • This video is off the chains! It must have took so much hard work. Especially backwards singing!

  • Darren, "corroborate" means to "substantiate".

  • Dang yall got skills....to pay the bills.
