Awww, poor Sam, it's too bad he probably wasn't the best father and husband with his uptight attitude toward everything. Frank Oz and Jim Henson portray this perfectly. Just the awkwardness of the conservation and maybe a little grief.

I'm surprised I have not found a fanfiction on his relationship to his family. I would love to see that someday.

I had never seen this scene before, it really shows the depth to which the writers would take the characters every now and then. Jim Henson and I share the love of breaking tension with humor. I love the "She flew the coop" comment the best.

@PrisonCipher You can't be serious.. I seriously pity people who try to find racial undertones in childrens' shows. Sam represents no race, nationality, or religion specifically. He is a parody of the stiff, pompous, self important goofball. He is a misguided patriot who find himself the butt of his own jokes. His heart is in the right place but his mouth gets in the way sometimes. If all you look for is hate then you will always find it, and usually in your own heart.

@Mada Do some research on the races of the muppet characters, Burt and Ernie are known for being the classic example of the racial undertones. Sam does represent a nationality, religion, etc. It's just not meant to be taken all the way to the depths of society. It's a joke character based off of already researched references.

It's interspecies dating. It was supposed to be a satirization of parents, who didn't want their kids to date inter-racially. As far as the taxidermi goes, they're animals.  A taxidermist stuffs dead animals.

Aw, poor Sam! His wife left him and his kids don't appreciate him! I would marry him! And be close to him, and never hurt him, just as his wife had done. I think Sam makes a wonderful husband, and a great father.
