Cool, I'm looking at getting one mostly for around the house and if I travel overseas where I will use my own wireless mobile modem. This might just do the trick.
You should be able to un-lock the phone and install a brower via the USB cable if it has one if this is possible there is Oprea mini which you could download free
Hello, i don't know about this phone but the best solution i know for now is a pc with linux or windows with a Logitech clearchat wireless. Mobile solution would be an air card connected to a netbook with a bluetooth or the clearchat headset. Lot of hardware to deploy to talk on a not always reliable network(i'm living in Quebec/Canada). Cellphone company don't want that to happend. By the way D-link DPH-50U was the worst ever eletronic s**t i never bought. Any know pstn/skype adapter working?
get an Itouch or psp they both have internet browsers that let you use skype plus they both do a whole lot more game, movies, music, and internet browsing
UPDATE. Now this phone WILL work at all Starbucks, MacDonalds, Barnes and Noble, at many hotels, airports, public libraries and other Boingo hot spots, over 100,000 worldwide. Only $7.95 per month gives you unlimited minutes 24/7 for Skype calls. I just bought this phone (includes Boingo software) at Frys for $100 and it's great. Forget the new Ipevo SO-20 Wi-fi Skype phone for now - it doesn't have Boingo available yet.
Thanks for that info. One question. You mentioned $7.95 per month. IS this for the $2.99 per month plan (Unlimited US and Canada) + a monthly charge to have a phone number so non-skype users can call you? Of did you purchase another monthly plan other than the basisc $2.99 plan? Just wondering so I can identify the total cost it would be for me. I like this Belkin phone.
Thanks for the review!!! I have been thinking of ways to cut costs in our economic downturn, and I was thinking of replacing my cell phone (that I rarely use) with this thinking I could use it at home, the coffee shop and the airport! THANKFULLY, you filled me in on a little secret about the usefulness outside of the home. Hopefully, Belkin/Netgear/etc will think of a way around this. Thanks again!
just bought one works great! I was scared before because of people posting negative about the signal. But it works great.... im using the dlink xtrem-n dual band. maybe thats y this thing works so great :)
Belkin Wifi Phone sucks-- the linux it uses crashes very frequently and this causes it reboot, which takes 2-3 mins complete. And by frequently i mean, if you press buttons to fast, or try to view your call history-- it is most irritating when u are trying to make an important call, and you have to wait 3 mins because the phone crashed and is booting slowly and trying to register on the network, and asks you for the password.
I hear allot fo great things about the netgear wifi phone but I can tell your from experience. I have a netgear wifi phone and It works great. It functiones properly with one big exeption. The voice quality is like a cell phone connection nothing wrong with that. but half of the time if your calling when internet traffic is at peak like in the evenings, you will get static noise on the receiving end every 2 or 3 seconds. We use roadrunner 6 meg down and 700k upload at times not good.
terrible Phone. me & my freind Sufferd talking on it. NEtgear phones horible. being really hot to a wifi lots of time it wont Connect. wait a while before buying one of theese. tec is too new. Voip Wireless Headset are like 200.00 dollers. for what. so u can skype voip. whey know what there doing. most of them where 100. or more earphone wireless. Dlink 5ou was Horible & im stuck with it droped called sounded like was I far away.
not entirely correct... a lot of hotels will give you access at the desk if you ask for it, without having to load up a web browser. I've asked for temporary passwords many times. Some hotels will do it, some won't. Also... if you own a mac or a pc with 2 wireless cards, you can simply connect to the hotel network or public network with your computer and share your connection using the secondary card as an access point. :) Kind of cumbersome but it works.
you can't do 3 way calling with this one and if you get another call while on the phone with someone else it'll cut off the conversation you're having until you decide if you wanna answer or ignore the incoming one.... But I guess that's the price you pay for having a phone that gives you unlimited long distance all year for less than most people pay a month, I'd wait it out for a little while if I were you.
I have one of these phones too, I find that mine likes to lose it's signal a lot, the speakers phone is useless... and you know how most phones when you press the talk button it brings you to call history, this one does that too which is nice but mine likes to reboot all together a lot of the time instead. (AND THIS PHONE TAKES LONGER THAN MOST TO REBOOT)
No, I'm afraid I tested it on a standard wireless-G connection with cable Internet access. I'm guessing wireless-B with DSL would be fast enough, but I haven't tried it. Forget dial-up, though.
Hey I don;t have this philips phone but have the netgear wifi phone. I can tell you that the phone works great with skype using a road runner 6 meg down and 700k upload speeds most of the time. The problem is in the evenings, most of the time when you place a call in the evenings at peak usage of the internet the calls suck. You can hear someone great on the wifi phone but they get a sound like static every 2 or 3 seconds on the receiving end.
Thanks a lot. I was gonna purchase a phone like this finally i made out my mind. I have a similar phone "philips" at home, and works perfect at home. I can even make international calls low rate, love it! Well, txs again buddy.

hours and hours of international calls.
