Ok I might get some shit for this but I honestly think Robert Rodriguez is more of an exploitation director than Tarantino, and yes I am aware he directed family friendly movies, but so did Bo Arne Vibernous who directed Thriller: A cruel picture (An exploitation film that inspired Tarantino's Kill Bill). Why? Because when Rodriguez started off and made El Mariachi the movie had no actual stars, costed around 7,000 to make and made him a pioneer of Mexisploitation.

I saw this in theaters and if you accept the film as a whole, Grindhouse that is, it's a brilliant singular film. Fuck calling it two films, Grindhouse is one long brilliant film. It's bad in parts but as a whole it's terrific. It's a fucking ride.

As two separate films however they are kind of limp. The experience of watching Grindhouse in theaters was one not to be missed and unforgettable. Not that it's that good but it was the whole package. So satisfying.
