On Earth, wealth, power and reputation may be a way to gain fame, but oh boy that's nothing compared to what it'll be like if your name becomes part of an alien race' written history.
One of the most touching, well-written and well-acted sci-fi movies of all time. 4 stars out of 4. Its message of understanding that your enemy is a person just like you continues to resonate in the wake of so much strife worldwide. We live, we love, we die. Yet it remains so hard to see eye to eye.
@Nightweaver1 youre right i first watch this movie when i was 10 really.... i was looking for this so that i can watch it again and stil;l as good as it was back then plus i understood it fully.... sooo nice movie....
Such a good movie. There's definitely a Christian theme(love your enemies). and also the ancient Jewish tradition of bringing a child to be blessed by the priest, and reciting their lineage. I've always liked it. It should've done better at the box office.
@1niftyjay and also it tells a lot about the reptilian race, except they are not actually that nice, nor would turn into slaves of humans, it 's actually the opposite
Thoughout this movie Davidge was doing the narration like he was the one telling the story, but at the end someone else is narrating. Who was Davidge telling the story to? Who was the narrator at the end?
Even in 2095 the racism and discrimination still exits but in species. We are in 2011 and the human is against his own like americans and mexicans. Where are we gonna end?
@twinstu50 yeah!!!!! whatever!!! 'oohhh look at me trying to make a point' well you failed miserably, you are not as clever as you seem to think you are and certainly not as clever as me.
Beautiful. What I like the most about it is the restrained ending to what is basically an adventure story. The soothing, reassuring narrator's voice along with the fairy-tale imagery lifts the story to a wonderful, hopeful myth.
Thanks for the pix but what the hey! You left out the incredible score of Maurice Jarre that blows them out of the water at the end and possibly beats John Williams for greatest science fiction score of all time! If you don't believe me, go back and listen to it!
I loved this film... but you can tell an ending is rushed when they have to pull out the Narrator From Nowhere to finish the tale for us once the story runs out. XD
@rap33r100 it is sort of honoring to Willis for what he did to protect zamis, he adopted zamis and treated him like his own child, thats why he was honored and remembered by adding his name to the line of jureeva.
@rap33r100 It just means that Zamis named its child after him. Since they recite all their forefathers' names to define who they are, a human name will thus in all future be a part of that list of names ('line').
dope movie really well made even for it's time! I remember watching it but I only have a vague memory of it and I stumbled upon it so good to see someone uploaded it!
this ranks as a good tear jerker, even for the hardest of hearts. The love in this movie is overflowing. Another good youtube that will bring tears to the hardest of hearts is Ben Hur meets Jesus!
Thank you so much for uploading this! I fell in love with this movie when I was a kid, and I think for the past year I've been trying to find out what it was called. Couldn't remember the name of the actor/movie and just remembered the pregnant alien dude and the mine.
Was using up most of the day browsing for it, doing 'space alien movies' on Google lol
Thank you for uploading. And to all you sh!t talkers....find someone else to spout your childish comments at. Grow up and get a life. Youtube is for people to expresse themselves and share things they love... not to be riddled with insensical nonsense. You should be ashamed of yourselves.
So, even though they knew about a dozen-odd guys holding 50+ Draks as mining slaves & mistreating them, even AFTER one of their crack fighter pilots is shot & left for dead by them, the Space Federation STILL turns a blind eye to the mining slave-camp. It's only after 4 pilots shoot up the place that the Draks are freed. Somebody high-up turned a blind eye, allowing the slave-labor racket to go on & driving the Drak war for equal rights & freedom against corrupt Earthmen. HA! Great movie anyway.
its not a matter of me believing something , its knowing .. besides the best experts and scientists are convinced that there is intelligent life on other planets , the ancient sumerians for example , they new everything about our solar system and all our planets 3500 years ago , the dogon tribe of mali new about a distend star wich is not visible for the naked eye , all these cultures said this kwoledge was given to them by reptilian gods from another planet that came down in firey ships ..
i can only tell you from my own personal experiences , aliens do exist and also ghosts and other higher dimensional entities and the astral world are very real .. but i couldnt expect anybody to believe any of this if they aint had no own experiences.. because i know how dumb it may sound .
I had read the book by Barry Longyear some time before the film came out in 85. Modified story, less depth and emotion but nevertheless great, still one of my favourite movies.
Very Good Story, and very good acting, they made all the bucks worth its while, considering its a relatively low budget Film. I believe that the time, when we Humans will be contacted by inter-stellar, intelligent extra Terrestial Life and Civilizations/Federations, we will have Matured to be non-violent, as well as those who contact us will be
Sorry to disappoint, but that's never going to happen. I have already spoken with them and they have labelled us "Evolutionary Dead-End", due to our high tendency to destroy everything around us. Instead they decided to allow us to run our course alone, in hope that they may discover why an entire race might knowingly cause their own demise. Now that we have passed the point of no return, their official conclusion is: "Death by money". Harvesting of our resources begins in 2012.
you are saying some off the wall shit. do you have a website you can direct me to that explains something similar to what you are saying? if what you are saying is true i want to read about it or something similar. show me some proof. tell me what website, if there is one, to go to.
Of course I'm not serious! It's supposed to be ironic, although If I was an alien looking at this planet I would probably reach a similar conclusion...
PS: For everyone who gave that post a thumbs down: you are pathetic and have NO sense of humour whatsoever.
This film demonstrates an alliance between aliens and humans which Star Trek can only dream of: an alliance based on love, not common commercial interests
Good movie...this 20th Century Fox film was most typical of the Reagan years: though set in outer space,it was really nothing but a simplistic World War 2 script of two enemies putting aside their differences in order to survive, replacing Allied-and-Axis with Human-and-Lizard. But still a nice flick anyway.
Beautiful movie ! We must learn to accept diversity. Peace and understanding only comes through compassion and dialogue. All sentient beings share the same emotions. I wish there were more movies like this.
So after we manage to get our high-speed low-drag space ships and all, our weapons will still consist of a bush bow, a pistol and a shot gun.... Oh.. and a branding iron! stick with what works I guess.... :) great movie still...
I have the soundtrack to this elite film of the 80's. As a kid then I never forget what an impact it had on me. Just a great film altogether. No remakes nor sequels are needed. The soundtrack just has a unique and prestigious rhythm to it I can't stop listening to it!!!!

I will not comment. It is fruitless.
The morality play that is this movie, going by the comments, is not understood.
I'm no wankin' expert, but, the 'play', has many levels, well worth looking into.
