why would any any American trust Insurance companies more than our government?? We have a voice in our government and can vote out the bums. We have no voice in any private company. And the Insurance Industry is one of the most corrupt in the world
Chris Baker did not allow me to go on air with him because I disagreed with his stance on the American Dream not being alive. They want people to believe that everything is ok when it is anything but! For the average person, we are just slaves; slaves to debt and slaves to our government. Ever read "The Road to Serfdom" Mr. Baker you schill!?!?! Right wing/Left wing...it's all the same bird people. Did you pay 4 your ticket to this dog and pony show?
You know you look at all those folk's and they all look like they are about to scurry out the back door just as soon as someone pull's the damn fire alarm. Al saved'em though with that Bush did it crap.
Baker is a vet and he doesnt have the common courtesy to remove his headware indoors? I bet there is a flag flying outside that building and thats the test. If the flag is flying, covers are not worn in doors. But I wouldnt expect a fascist to have respect for anyone.
Fascism is total government control, especially in the private sector and the (free) market system. People who use the word fascist and fascism should look up the word. Liberals love dictators and fascism... when they're "in charge".
Conservative commentators don't like government intervening in any part of their private lives. You'd get that if you knew what the fuck you're talking about.
And you're here saying he shouldn't be allowed to where a hat indoors. That's fascistic.
@vegetorott First of all, I know lots of conservatives who are on medicare, medicaid, disability and receive medical care from the VA. If they wont want govt intervening in "in any part of their private lives" then they should ethically send back their medicare reimbursements and give up all benefits from the VA and never collect social security. You cant have it both ways: you cant say you are anti-government and then pay for your life on the govts. dime....that means no social security.
C) The cost of healthcare is driven by the cost of insurance.
D) These people actually think that after everything the government has screwed up in the past 40 years that the public is going to allow them to get their tenticles inbetween themselves and their doctor? They truely are delusional.
he says that this will "actually put pressure on private companies" yeah, it sure will, it will make them go out of business, it will drive out all private insurance. Also according to the AMA medicare denies more patients than any other insurance company.
What do we have now?? We have both the republicans (BUSH) and the democrats (OBAMA) spending our country into oblivion, and health care is gonna drive us even deeper into the whole.
How can people honestly believe illegal immigrants arent going to covered? What are they gonna deny dying or sick illegal immigrants at the hospitals? Its laughable, really, besides the government is never EVER right on money guesstimates, look at Mass. Health care plan.
I don't know about what other issues you are referring to, but in terms of health care in America it is a crisis. No other developed country faces medical bankruptcies, insurance company denials for life saving procedures, sky rocketing costs which depress wages of workers and cripple national financial solvency, but we do. Please cite examples of people being denied care in the us. Please people, healthcare is not a constitutional right. I health care good? Absolutely, but you do not have a right to unlimited or even equal healthcare. Get over it all of you sniveling leaches. An inherent right doesn't interfere with other people's rights. Social healthcare does - it interfere's with my right to pay or not to pay. (Polysci 101)
It may not be a 'right' per se... but it's surely a responsibility of any civilized society to take care of its people.
Do you know why democratic governments exist? They exist to provide the services that the private sector is unwilling or unable to provide. It's that simple.
People say "well we don't need government healthcare... people should just help each other on their own"... well yes, that's called government.. when a group is organized to provide on behalf of the people.
I happen to believe that healthy people can be more productive for the country. I don't think we'll every agree with whether health care is right or a priviledge. That's called freedom. And for the record, no I don't think replucans have done a very good job the last 8 years. I think we can all do better.

why don't these guys look at what caused health care to rise so much in the first place? since it's largely a bunch of economic incentives created by the government?
If "socialized" medicine (which this plan is not) is good enough for the military and seniors (which is what the VA and medicare is) why is it not good enough for everyone else?! You're spreading right wing talking points that have been proven inaccurate. I suggest you go to factcheck. org. The government is not in insurance companies, the health care industry has been completely turned over to them and they fucked it up! As any veteran about government health care. VA hospitals are the best in the country, my husband was treated at a few.
First of all, you're a nut! Secondly, If "socialized" medicine (which this plan is not) is good enough for the military and seniors (which is what the VA and medicare is) why is it not good enough for the rest of us?! Furthermore, As much as you think you're against it there are misconceptions everywhere. The lies of the pharmaceutical companies work since people like you still believe them. Their business is in trouble, of course they will try to keep it afloat with lies.
Medicare is bankrupt. Barney Frank should be in Prison for what he and Chris Dodd did to the housing debacle. I may be nuts but at least I do my homework and don't make my remarks akin to my emotions or fall into "O"'s Deceitful rhetoric about Ramming a bill down the countries throat which he has not even read. We agree on one thing healthcare needs to be changed. I believe that is the extent of it.
I Apologize for calling you a Sheep. It was off the point.
Medicare is bankrupt because Bush added great things to it, without a way to fund them. Secondly, Obama doesn't have to read the bill because it's a draft and not only that it's not his legislation. The house passes a bill, then the senate, then it's sent to him, that's when he has to read it. To decide whether or not he wants to sign or veto. I've read the bill and I am satisfied with it.
If You are satisfied with it that tells me about You. I would be wasting my time trying to sell You on anything resembling Intelligent Liberty and Free thinking Conservative Capitalism. You obviously want and need a Master to run Your life. I along with most of the rest of the Country do not. Don't try to drag us into You're Socialist World with People Like You.
You would be wasing your time when it comes to telling me about capitalism because it doesn't really work. Secondly, yo umost likely don't know what socialism is. What you hear on the news, especially the FOX network is not correct. And guess what, America is not a true capitalism, because if it was we would be living in the early 1900's America. HR 3200 is not socialism, in real socialist countries, it is considered conservative!
CONTD: What's wrong with socialism? All people are equal under the idea. All people are created equal.... wheres that from? Oh right, thomas jefferson, on the United States' Declaration of Independence! Lastly, you want to know a place that uses real socialism though? Give up? Try Alaska! They have been doing it since 1976 with the Alaska Permanent Fund and it works GREAT! The citizens own the oil resources and get a check in the mail every year from revenue.
Oh I see that Hope and Change Working. I see Those Little Kids being indoctrinated in school. I see "O" Apologizing to the world and Bowing to Saudi Kings instead of espousing that ours is the Greatest nation on Earth,
I wonder How old You are as I remember how it was under Carter and see us heading for the same conditions only on steroids. In order to survive we must be free to Create Wealth not redistribute what is created. I agree that healthcare costs are too high. This bill will not work.
This is not the greatest nation on earth, I know you would like to think that, but you are sadly mistaken! We do however, have the greatest military. Indoctrinating kids? By telling them to stay in school? I guess you want kids to be heathenous dropouts then? WHat I joke! When Nixon was president, and the end of cartoons it used to say praise Nixon, or bless him, and all kinds of things about him. DId you have a problem with that?
CONTD: America has not always put its best foot foward and when you screw up, the right thing to do is acknowledge it and make it right. As far as bowing to Saudi Kings go, it's a mark of respect. When he bowed to the English Queen did you have a problem? This bill will work, the US is the only industrialized nation that doesn't have universal coverage. As far as this wealth re-distribution crap, I suggest you look at the constitution.
All I can Say is If this is not the greatest nation then Why are they constantly trying to get in and if You think somewhere else is better then Please go there and the rest of your ignorant elitist liberal friends with you. See how long You last without Capitalist's to support all your hairbrianed liberal entitlement programs.
I have looked at the Constitution Plenty. What would you like to know about it. I'll be happy to address any specific area you need info on.
Actually, conservatism is a disease and I can point you to an article that says so. Anyhow, I have lived in several countries and America isn't in my top 5! America has the best army, however, America ranks 48 when it comes to the infant mortality rate, 72 in overall health, 55 in literacy (behind Cuba!!!), 37 when it comes to the health care system, 18 among 36 when it comes to secondary education, & US students rank 11th in Science and 9th in Math! Not the greatest country in the world!
CONTD: As far as the constitution goes, it clearly says, "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and GENERAL WELFARE of the United States". Evidently, raising taxes is not socialism!
Actually, Texaskingfish's comments made me think of something. Who is paying for the "general welfare" that the socialists want so badly? Oh yes, all of those big greedy corporations that employ millions of americans, and all of those rich greedy americans that start small businesses that grow into large greedy corporations. Without capatilism, america would not have the greatest military in the world, the largest gdp in the world or the best healthcare system in the world period!
CONTD: It's a well-known fact that the rich people of the world come to America for the their healthcare (Mayo). All of this government takeover of everything from auto to healthcare is a case of the dog biting the hand that feeds him. Well, it better be careful, or it won't be getting fed for much longer.
As a free-born, red-blooded american, I wouldn't expect to be able to convince with mere words a person who is still living under the kind of servitude that we escaped a few hundred years ago. Folks, we told them don't tread on me once, we need to do it again.
You are a huge joke! AMerica doesn't have the best health carte in the world! That bragging right belongs to France. America ranks 37th! Secondly, America doesn't utilize real capitalism and the richest people in this country say that it doesn't work! Get a clue and open up your eyes! People are going to places like India for health care! The performed the first open heart surgery without anestesia because the guy was allergic!
Please cite sources when throwing out random numbers. According to what standard does America rank 37th? What rich people say it doesn't work? More facts and less ad hominem attacks please.
Let me also add that the quality of healthcare is secondary - Very, very important, but secondary. What good is the best healthcare in the world if you live under a dictatorship? I don't apologize when I say that healthcare takes a back-seat to freedom. Everything rises or falls on freedom. I wouldn't expect you, angel, to understand that.
Welcome to university in America - filled with socialist euro-minded professors. It's easy to tear down business in America when you don't have a real job. Most of us depend on business for our livelihood happen to believe that businesses are efficient and good for the owners, employees, customers and communities in which they operate.
I really don't know how much evidence this guy needs that governments can do a good job at running healthcare. Medicare, the VA, every other industrialized country in the world (who run their systems in many different ways, all of them better than ours), etc.
Face it, there are certain things governments are bad at (ie. manufacturing goods), and certain things they can run well (healthcare). It's just common sense.
The guy sitting to the right on this video (Frankenfraud's left) appears to have filled his depends and is looking for a way to get out of the room. Nice to see he surrounded himself with his liberal cronies and constituents from New York and California. Nice comeback, moron, blame Bush because you don't have a clue.
Did you listen to what he had to say or just type in a reply. Can you point out one area where he was incorrect? He points out the efficiencies of public the extra costs produced by private. Why would you look to government for trust? You mean you trust insurance companies who throw out up to 40% of all claims? You trust them over government?
Please cite sources when throwing out random numbers. Maybe where you live the government is extremelely efficient. The rest of us live in the real world. Why stop at healthcare? Why not have government save us from those greedy and untrustworthy auto insurance companies and homeowners insurance companies....
Well, he did answer that. He (and the unidentified woman) pointed out that Medicare and the VA, two government run programs, run more efficiently and have higher patient satisfaction, while the private health insurance system, which is the rule for most Americans, is bankrupting people and leaving them behind.
Those things you mention there do not qualify as reasons why the public should trust government to reform healthcare because they don't address the likelihood of such a reform happening. They don't address the means government has at its disposal, which is the concern.
if you're saying we can't afford to reform healthcare reform, I say we can't afford no to. We spend more per person on healthcare than any other country in the world, and we don't live as long or as well as people in countries with national healthcare.
If you say you can't afford not to reform healthcare reform, I say that's irrelevant to Baker's question. A request for assurance has been made and it can't be met. Al Franken (and the unidentified woman) were not honest about it.
So the government will cover pre-existing conditions? The reason for high insurance costs is because of too high of regulation on insurance policies requiring people to pay for coverage that they don't want or need but the government requires it. It shows that the government runs inefficient. Also the Constitution does NOT grant these powers to the Congress.
Al Franken does not know He is just along for the ride. He just grabs hold of the Donkey's tail and hangs on. Butt now when the Donkey decides that He has to go Al looks like the rest of them.
There is no reasoning with people who won't even consider the very fact that this bill isn't about Gov run health care. It's about reforming insurance companies, thus the big bucks on the hill and the big bucks thrown around to bus people to town halls. The health insurance industry doesn't want any thing to change and because there are people out there willing to help them, it won't change.
Sad. And embarrassing. This is the best Al has to offer? Maybe he can find someone to keep a seat warm for him in the private sector, He'll need it next term.
Franken and his buddies have no idea how to run anything but their mouths. When they successfully run a business or service I'll give them some credit, but passing costs off to future generations for more entitlement programs won't fly.
It's George Bush's fault! Read the body language of all these idiots! Their backs are to Chris and when they do turn to him, they look like they are staring at something left on the seat of the toilet.
people dont trust the government cause people like Al Franken are supposed to be running it! people wake up!!! who is this jack ass and what are his qualifications. a failed liberal talk show radio host? a not funny comedian? people need to educate themselves before they vote for a fraud like this! gosh darn it, people wake up!!!
...it looks like the "robust" woman in red in front of Chris could use a little government control of her healthcare since she can't seem to control it herself. Maybe P-Bo should tell her to put the fork down. Can you say Diabetes Type II?
If the VA is so great, why is my 75 year old Korean War Vet Father in law who needs a hearing aid having to wait until October (appt made at end of July) to see if his hearing loss is enough to qualify for a hearing aid. He can't even get in to start the process to get help for 3 months! Since then, I have had my Uncle who is an ENT and ENT Surgeon confirm his hearing loss and offered to get him a hearing aid if the VA can't or won't help. Franken...go back to TV and stay out of our lives!!!!!
Who was the lady talking about how much more efficient Medicare is vs. private health insurance as far as administrative cost goes? I wonder if she took into account that some of the administrative cost from the private insurers is used to stop fraud and wasteful spending? Medicare loses around $68 billion to fraud and much more then that to unnecessary procedures. Plus 3% of Medicare's $400 billion is a lot of tax-payers' money.
He said crisis 12+ times, and the piece of lying shit blamed Bush for crap that he didnt even do. one word of advise for you Mr. Franken ( mr. Faken' as i like to say it), man up, just adment it, you don't know any thing about a free economy, or health care, the only thing you know is how to distroy them. Mr. Franken, stop reading Stalin's memoir, this is not your counrty, it is ours, the people, and the people say "go back to russia", or "hell no" , that sould speak for itself. Chris, great job

What you hear on the news, especially the FOX network is not correct. And guess what, America is not a true capitalism, because if it was we would be living in the early 1900's America. HR 3200 is not socialism, in real socialist countries, it is considered conservative!
CONTD.
AngelMarieFox 2 years ago
CONTD: What's wrong with socialism? All people are equal under the idea. All people are created equal.... wheres that from? Oh right, thomas jefferson, on the United States' Declaration of Independence! Lastly, you want to know a place that uses real socialism though? Give up? Try Alaska! They have been doing it since 1976 with the Alaska Permanent Fund and it works GREAT! The citizens own the oil resources and get a check in the mail every year from revenue.

I could tell you the same thing. You've been drinking the republican kool aid so long that you don't know what it's like to try something else.

Texaskingfish 2 years ago
This is not the greatest nation on earth, I know you would like to think that, but you are sadly mistaken! We do however, have the greatest military. Indoctrinating kids? By telling them to stay in school? I guess you want kids to be heathenous dropouts then? WHat I joke! When Nixon was president, and the end of cartoons it used to say praise Nixon, or bless him, and all kinds of things about him. DId you have a problem with that?
AngelMarieFox 2 years ago
CONTD: America has not always put its best foot foward and when you screw up, the right thing to do is acknowledge it and make it right. As far as bowing to Saudi Kings go, it's a mark of respect. When he bowed to the English Queen did you have a problem? This bill will work, the US is the only industrialized nation that doesn't have universal coverage. As far as this wealth re-distribution crap, I suggest you look at the constitution.
AngelMarieFox 2 years ago
All I can Say is If this is not the greatest nation then Why are they constantly trying to get in and if You think somewhere else is better then Please go there and the rest of your ignorant elitist liberal friends with you. See how long You last without Capitalist's to support all your hairbrianed liberal entitlement programs.
I have looked at the Constitution Plenty. What would you like to know about it. I'll be happy to address any specific area you need info on.
Liberalism is a Desease
Texaskingfish 2 years ago
Actually, conservatism is a disease and I can point you to an article that says so. Anyhow, I have lived in several countries and America isn't in my top 5! America has the best army, however, America ranks 48 when it comes to the infant mortality rate, 72 in overall health, 55 in literacy (behind Cuba!!!), 37 when it comes to the health care system, 18 among 36 when it comes to secondary education, & US students rank 11th in Science and 9th in Math! Not the greatest country in the world!
AngelMarieFox 2 years ago 2
CONTD: As far as the constitution goes, it clearly says, "The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and GENERAL WELFARE of the United States". Evidently, raising taxes is not socialism!

Go Away Scum
Texaskingfish 2 years ago
LOL! Is that what you say when you run out of talking points? Educate yourself and stop being a dingbat.
AngelMarieFox 2 years ago
Actually, Texaskingfish's comments made me think of something. Who is paying for the "general welfare" that the socialists want so badly? Oh yes, all of those big greedy corporations that employ millions of americans, and all of those rich greedy americans that start small businesses that grow into large greedy corporations. Without capatilism, america would not have the greatest military in the world, the largest gdp in the world or the best healthcare system in the world period!
mcki0127 2 years ago
CONTD: It's a well-known fact that the rich people of the world come to America for the their healthcare (Mayo). All of this government takeover of everything from auto to healthcare is a case of the dog biting the hand that feeds him. Well, it better be careful, or it won't be getting fed for much longer.
mcki0127 2 years ago
As a free-born, red-blooded american, I wouldn't expect to be able to convince with mere words a person who is still living under the kind of servitude that we escaped a few hundred years ago. Folks, we told them don't tread on me once, we need to do it again.
mcki0127 2 years ago
You are a huge joke! AMerica doesn't have the best health carte in the world! That bragging right belongs to France. America ranks 37th! Secondly, America doesn't utilize real capitalism and the richest people in this country say that it doesn't work! Get a clue and open up your eyes! People are going to places like India for health care! The performed the first open heart surgery without anestesia because the guy was allergic!
AngelMarieFox 2 years ago
Please cite sources when throwing out random numbers. According to what standard does America rank 37th? What rich people say it doesn't work? More facts and less ad hominem attacks please.
mcki0127 2 years ago
Let me also add that the quality of healthcare is secondary - Very, very important, but secondary. What good is the best healthcare in the world if you live under a dictatorship? I don't apologize when I say that healthcare takes a back-seat to freedom. Everything rises or falls on freedom. I wouldn't expect you, angel, to understand that.
mcki0127 2 years ago
My french professor is from Marseille and says that American healthcare is too much like a business.
pboisei 2 years ago

It would sure be nice if Al Franken knew what he was talking about. Kudos to Chris for his question.
GregBollMN 2 years ago 2
Chris Baker's request was unfair if the government is making this move out of a necessity.
Wildberg09 2 years ago
Did you listen to what he had to say or just type in a reply. Can you point out one area where he was incorrect? He points out the efficiencies of public the extra costs produced by private. Why would you look to government for trust? You mean you trust insurance companies who throw out up to 40% of all claims? You trust them over government?
Scratching my head?
99butcher99 2 years ago
Please cite sources when throwing out random numbers. Maybe where you live the government is extremelely efficient. The rest of us live in the real world. Why stop at healthcare? Why not have government save us from those greedy and untrustworthy auto insurance companies and homeowners insurance companies....

manhatin 2 years ago 3
A slightly dishonest move from Al Franken there, at 5:34. He puts words in the mouth of his opponent. Right?
In reality he couldn't answer the real question, which was "What is it that the public should look at to trust government to reform healthcare?"
Wildberg09 2 years ago
Well, he did answer that. He (and the unidentified woman) pointed out that Medicare and the VA, two government run programs, run more efficiently and have higher patient satisfaction, while the private health insurance system, which is the rule for most Americans, is bankrupting people and leaving them behind.
Extratexture4 2 years ago 2
Those things you mention there do not qualify as reasons why the public should trust government to reform healthcare because they don't address the likelihood of such a reform happening. They don't address the means government has at its disposal, which is the concern.
Wildberg09 2 years ago
if you're saying we can't afford to reform healthcare reform, I say we can't afford no to. We spend more per person on healthcare than any other country in the world, and we don't live as long or as well as people in countries with national healthcare.
Extratexture4 2 years ago
If you say you can't afford not to reform healthcare reform, I say that's irrelevant to Baker's question. A request for assurance has been made and it can't be met. Al Franken (and the unidentified woman) were not honest about it.
Wildberg09 2 years ago
@Extratexture4 This is just plain false... Medicare and Medicade are bankrupt.

Save your breath AL. The politicians who have been bought by the insurance companies and the public who have bought the anti govt kool aid
will never listen to logic. Forget the bi partisian stuff and just pass the bill.
igsoper 2 years ago
So the government will cover pre-existing conditions? The reason for high insurance costs is because of too high of regulation on insurance policies requiring people to pay for coverage that they don't want or need but the government requires it. It shows that the government runs inefficient. Also the Constitution does NOT grant these powers to the Congress.

Barack MUST veto any bill which doesn't have THE PUBLIC OPTION.
DillonX 2 years ago
There is no reasoning with people who won't even consider the very fact that this bill isn't about Gov run health care. It's about reforming insurance companies, thus the big bucks on the hill and the big bucks thrown around to bus people to town halls. The health insurance industry doesn't want any thing to change and because there are people out there willing to help them, it won't change.
