  • When I first started playing was around the time Apocrypha was released. I had dabbled in the game a few times before a few years earlier and the change in user friendliness to starting players was a pleasant surprise. I'm glade they took the correct approach instead of dulling down or watering down the game like other MMO developers do. Everything becomes clearer as you learn it in stages, however looking up starter guides on the net is still recommended.

  • I can understand him pretty well and im not a native english speaker myself .. i dont get people bickering about understand people with an accent (@#

eVerlastingTenrai ), to me they simply have a propblem with people who are not from the uk or us and use the accent and understanding as an excuse.

The video was realy interesting, keep them coming.

  • Is this North Korea's flag on his t-shirt?

  • @Sharok480 I was gona say

  • Dear CCPGames, please use some native english person for voice in your movies. Its hard to understand this dude . .. he seems to have some russian accent or something . Dont kill english, use native speakers.

  • @eVerlastingTenrai its Icelandic what would you expect look at there language its frigin confusing.

  • Icelandic ppl sound like finns when they speak english..

  • THE BACKGROUND MOVES!!!

  • O_o I thought this guy was an Icelander ... why does he have a Dutch accent?

  • scandinavians and dutch have a similar tone in their language. :) but this is definately an icelandic accent, very easy to hear imo. dutch are a bit different, but i guess its easy to confuse if yer not native in the area

  • @ShadowSwampland it is true, this accent is similar to Dutch, but they have some differences too

  • I'm not hearing the dutch accent, first of all he has a rolling 'rrr'

  • @antalz Ya :S Re-watching it I can't really hear it either. I wonder why I thought it.

  • @antalz its icelandic

  • The learning curve I find is not a problem, almost every day you learn something new and sometimes comes up with a new skill also adding to the game experience. I find the biggest problem is the dark side, you could call it the force I guess like in the Starwar movie :p. Yes there is a dark side and they seek recruits. Funny in a kind of way but makes the game more interesting and we need them, I just hope the game will not become all dark cause then it will dime out and diminish.

  • I find that the learning curve also keeps me interested. Like 09674532 said, you learn something knew every day. As long as you keep finding something new to tinker with, you'll stay interested.

  • new*

  • My only wish is that the dark side would develop more of a sense of sportsmanship and at least with a criminal honor behavior, I know there are some who works on that to make the game more fun to play but not enough. Too many are just pointeless. What makes a good movie is a great bad guy, not cheap baddies with no rules. Have fun ;)

  • I don't like the accent sounds like dutch and im dutch so i might know it hehe but still intresting :D

  • I agree , altough I am dutch to and I speak english without my dutch accent (most of it ;-)

    gij niet dan?

  • @849738

    Da's flaams man ;D

  • @849738

:< of bra-bands. daar dacht ik ff nie aan.

  • Ik denk ook Bra-bands :p

  • Is that... the north korean flag!?!?!?!?

  • DUDE IT IS OMFG!!!!!!!

  • I like eve BECAUSE of the depth and difficulty. Generally I think people that play EVE are generally smarter that those who play other MMO's (WOW), making the PVP much much harder and more interesting.

  • right man,

WoW suck EvE is the best MMO.

  • Missons are boring. But it's a PvP focused game, so guess what's really fun to do in it?

  • No, mining is boring, but to get to the fun stuff you need isk's inorder to buy a decent ship, and equip it out, so at first you have to do loads of missions and mine, and mine and mine to get the money.

  • A lot of people play the trial and expect in a few days they can get(from an awesome quote in rookie help) "Epic purplez lewts"

Im glad eve is challenging and fun.

  • "while this is anecdotally funny" - what a legend!

  • the eve online is very complicated wormholes are every where in all kinds of space but there are hard to put on big corp through them i love eve online see u in 9-4 ccp

  • EVE Above ALL!

  • Lol'd at the people falling off the learning curve cliff remark.

  • The thiung i love about this game is the reality. If you lose a ship you have to work to get another one. There isn't a reset button for everything. If you can't afford to lose a ship then don't go to places where you would lose one. This is what makes theis game so awesome compared to others. Thanx to all at CCP for creating a most amazing game. The depth of what you can do is AMAZING! And with the Apoc the exploration will be almost endless! Awesome!

  • If your new to eve and don't have a clue and u just want to shoot stuff or have the best ship/skills in 24 hrs u will fail. U make a mistake? U fail. U go into a mission unprepared? U fail. Money (isk) is hard to make at first but u can make a lot of isk if u work at it. Yea your gonna be pissed when your new battleship gets blown up and it takes weeks to recover, but...bet ya don't do that again eh? This new release looks to be great. New stuff, new places, new rewards. Wow! I'm ready!

  • Eve is hard...I'm glad it's tough and challenging to play. Eve has been, by far the best game I have ever played and I started playing comp. games 24 years ago! With this new release it will make a great game even more fantastic. Can't wait to go exploring with my corp. mates and get into some eye popping, heart racing new action. Eve isn't for everyone and I'm so glad for that. Only the strong and intellegent make it in Eve. The weak? Well they just die and move on.

  • EVE's biggest problem STILL is the cost of playing the game. I don't mean real world money entirily (although it can be an issue) but going out and NOT being a carebear means you spend even more time GRINDING in EVE than you do in a game like WoW for example.

Grinding to make money to replace your ship and gear. EVE has a pathetic insurance system. It only covers your ship and not your gear and even then about mid way down the tech tree the insurance won't even cover the cost of JUST YOUR SHIP!

  • The whole game is build around taking a risk to gain a reward, not joining some line and magically be thrown into "balanced" PVP.

The grind is only bad at first, when doing lvl 1 missions, or mining veldspar, but it quickly catches up and you will be flying bigger and more expensive ships as your skills also slowly developes.

With the new +% to experience for new players AND the skillqueue it will be even easier for new players to get started.

Eve is more than just a game, its a challenge.

  • I just started playing this game, and yes it is confusing which honestly makes it awesome. Screw WOW's simplicity, if you wanna run around and hit things with a sword you do that.

  • Can't I do both?

    I love WoW and EVE.

They are extremely different games though, you cannot compare them to each other just because they are both MMOs.

  • EvE: biggest waste of time of my life. Never playing again, just wanted to see what i was missing

  • Do you expect us to feel bad? I'm sorry this MMO was over your head. Maybe you can find something simple enough for your shallow mind.

  • your have to play it for more than 5 minutes for it to be fun

  • It's not for everyone, basically the game demands the player to drive himself.

Also, the core content such and mining was and still is very much lackluster.

  • I don't quite agree with stripping new player skills, but I guess they might as well try it. I wasn't really confused by my skills when I started.

  • Paint it pink!

  • lol whats up with the shirt with a north korean flag on it?????

btw, the post below me is right. losing ships is just too costly for most players unless they have a solid bank. but taking a Rokh out and losing it as an average player is harsh, i dont want to mine, rat, or do missions for a week to replace my ship.

  • wher is the skill planer i cant find it

  • its not deployed on tq yet.

  • you can find it in 2 days

  • That picture in background would make great wallpaper.

  • The Apoc intro and backgrounds they've created are really, really nice, there's a wallpaper floating around the EVE forums.

  • I've seen the picture of the learning curve he talks about in the beginning. It gets the point across nicely.

  • T0rfifrans is my favorite out of all of them : )

  • haha, let's paint a part in EVE pink... ;)

  • the new expansion will be awesome but i hope there wont be the problems ie lag that came with QR

  • nah they just updated ther servers so it should be fine. also if you have any problems with eve they usually do something about it. i find the eve support one of the best and they try to make everybody happy.

  • well im sure there is going to be sum b/c it's to hard to test a game as large as eve and to get all the bugs out

  • Torfi's accent is so awesome :p So funny to listen to (sorry Torfi, but it's true).

  • Nice I can't wait. Keep it up, CCP!

  • "paint it pink" NOOO that would be to far thanks for never doing it...shudders

  • I love how it's complicated and has a harder learning curve then most MMO.

This is what makes EVE soooooooo Goooood!

Thanks CCP, keep up the good work.

  • Maybe, but now that EVE is hitting store shelves again, I'm sure that CCP wants it to sell. Not many people will buy a game that's as hard to get into as EVE is.

  • well a lot of this expansion is this new experience, so yeah they seem to be trying to get a lot more new players...i didn't really have a problem getting into the game and i started when i was like 14, so its not that bad anyway....just have to be persistent.

  • People are already complaining about there being not enough people in lowsec/0.0. They'll be complaining even more when 98% of the new players entering the game also stay in High Sec. No one wants the 10 vs 1 found in lowsec/0.0. Especially not when death means you lose stuff. Now with the suicide attacks that are happening in High Sec, something's going to have to change (ie High Sec and the game in general becoming safer). 10 v 1 gate camps and newbie griefing won't sell.

  • Are there still that many suicide attacks in highsec? I thought the standing penalty changes mitigated that...

  • There are still many people complaining about it and suggesting ideas to fix it on the forums (only to be flamed for it).

  • ratting in 0.0 causes suicide ganking to be with no consequences.

i do it. so i know

  • There are still suicide attacks yes, it was just made harder. Now people will jump in small fast destroyers with high alpha, from lowsec intohighsec. Warp to their gangmember who's found you and scanned your ship fittings.. pew pew, you're dead and he scoops the loot.

A destroyer is only around a 1m loss.

Some people haul in battleships in Orcas aswell, drop them in highsec for flashy players in pods to take before then warping to you and blowing you up.

  • thats so true...its a shame..

  • This is why I love EVE. Were not retarded WoW players. You need intelligence to succeed. Sure, this makes the learning curve for new players a brick wall, but for those who push onward, it makes successes far more rewarding.

  • This statement is win. Absolutely true. I see far less whining noobs in Eve than I do in any other MMO.

  • I totally agree Flarehappy. Anyone can learn to play Eve. It just takes time, patience, and the ability to learn.

I've been playing for almost 2 years, and it actually EXCITES me when I learn about things that have been around forever but I didn't know of them.

Makes it so much more worth it, unlike when you play other MMO's you hit max level in a few months.

I do think the New Player Experience is wise tho. Creating an Eve character can be overwhelming.

  • My favourite guy in CCP :D I love your accent ! :D

  • Cool

  • sweet....not pink

  • Finally we get to sleep! no more early morning skill changes!

  • Glad to see they are only allowing stacking up the 24hrs.

  • I agree Terol. It's perfect so we don't lose time during shifts at work or sleep.

But keeping it to 24 hours will still have people logging in frequently.

And on the test server, I've seen the skill queue. As long as the last skill in the queue is say, 2 weeks, you'll be fine.

  • Thanks CCP for looking out for my precious sleeping time.

  • Gonna be interesting to see Apoc. :)
