  • Now I understand what amateur really means. Your video should be about St. Andrews, not your favourite, but irrelevant music.

    Wipe the lens!

  • @liuzhou Firstly, of course it's amateur - that's what YouTube is (or was at the time this video was made) all about - ordinary people picking up a camcorder and filming anything and everything. Secondly, I don't work for the National Tourism Board, so this video should be about whatever the hell I want it to be about using whatever music I see fit! It's my video, not yours. Also, the camera was attached to the spare wheel bonnet mount on the front of the Land Rover, hence the water.

  • you are too funny.

you're liek a mix between billy connolly and a pirate.

whey hey hey! ha ha! try that in yer euro box!

  • Hi, i also live in St.Andrews, and the town has been ruined by too many roadsigns, roadworks, and the west sands road which they CHARGE you to go on, is worse than any farm road i've ever seen, it's a disgrace. If you plan on DRIVING in St.Andrews in your car, it's a nightmare, people park on double yellows, and on roundabouts believe it or not, it's an old medieval town which can't cope with the traffic it now has.

    Nice wee video though.

  • Thanks for watching! I always planned to do another drivearound now that you tube have a higher quality video compression. But, the road on the west sands is great - IF you drive a LandRover (hehehe) and those pot holes (as you saw) make for a great off road track - as does the back end of the grassy car park! I only thought they charged in the summer. I know what you mean, flitting round the place in my little Fiat is tricky, never mind the Landy! Roadsigns are basically organised vandalism!

  • The West Sands Road has been greatly improved. The foot-deep potholes are gone and you can actually drive safely along it in an ordinary car...

  • Very good video --i enjoyed looking at it. i live here in St-Andrews. It is a nice place to live.Getting spoilt a lot now with all the stupid road signs and un-neccessary traffic lights, also all those taxi drivers who think they own the road.

  • absolutely beautiful! Can't wait to visit in Spring 2009, I'll be studying European history at the University as a visiting student from Wesleyan University in Connecticut, USA.

  • aww memories, i used to live there when i was like 6 - 10

  • Great Video thanks for posting it. Beautiful area and I love the last part. I felt like I was in a formula 1 car lol :-). I'm in the US but have a friend who lives in St. Andrews. It's nice to be able to see his beautiful city. Thanks again.

  • I live in St Andrews too:D

  • Been livin abroad for near on 20 years, hasnae changed a bit

  • In a somewhat strange way I really enjoyed this video. I really love the old toon and used to drive through each day to Crail, now living in South East England I miss those days. Thanks for reminding me ;o) off for a beer at the 19th hole. Showing my age now!

  • Sorry I wasn't specific enough. Can you please tell me the name of the first song you played? =D

  • Sure! It's 'The Staunton Lick' by Lemon Jelly

  • Thank youuuu I love you.. Not really but yeah thanks :D

  • Ahh please tell me the name of that song! I love it and I really wanna download it! Pleaseee tell me?

  • why the hell did u avoid all the NORMAL part's! we're not this historic rainy boring country side town. we have council flats.YEAH!.and you avoided lamond drive and MADRAS!!!! grrrrrr. :(.u dissapoint me.

  • madras isn't so bad

  • I live there as well, it was nice to see it through somebody elses eyes :)

  • Speaking as a St Andrews Student, that was strangely relaxing to watch myself touring the town without having to make the legs move. To the American wishing to come over, its great, you will love it here, the more the merrier.

  • Brad, please arrange a tour of Methil and see if you can spot the Methil Young Teem.....

  • Tayport, what a dump no wonder you go driving aimlessly round StAndrews. If you want to see the Real Grittier side of Fife look for the " Methil Young Teems"videos.

  • lol i've done the same thing in my brother's defender down that road beside the beach when theres load of big puddles! I've lived in The Drew for all my life (i'm 21) & i'm bloody sick of the place. I hate all the students & the fuckin tourists that come! I can't wait to leave!

  • nice video...planning on studying in St. Andrews for a year as part of a study abroad program from here in the U.S.

  • I have lived here for 11 years!!! woooooop

  • I LIVE HERE AND ITS A GREAT PLACE!

  • Couldn't agree with you more - I go there as often as I can!

  • I must say, that is a great video, I enoyed watching it.

The only thing is, I live in St Andrews and I is now just after 4am. So, not only am I looking at what is outside my window, I am now very unlikely to be attending my morning lectures!

Thanks again for the brilliant video.

  • Haha! That might be a tough one to explain...!

Thanks for watching. Because of the running time, I had to reduce the quality, hence the pixelling and higher than average contrast, but glad you enjoyed the ride regardless!

  • I can't wait to come up in September!

  • September's usually a good month - weather wise! You'll love it!

  • loved my time at st andrews. was there from 2001-2006.

  • It's a great place to just 'be'!

  • Thanks for the video, I miss home :'(

  • I would too...!

  • Great memories seeing your vid. Thanks

  • You're welcome! :)

  • When did you do this one? Looks to be fairly recent - the roadworks near the roundabout on south street didn't vanish until just before new year.

  • 8th December I posted it and I think I recorded it the same day!

  • I have a lot of Netfriends who've read emails about St Andrews or seen my photographs, but this gives a much better impression of the town centre generally. I've made a list of what features to look out for when, and will be sending it to them along with the URL of your film. Two of my three schools are on it. Great idea, and the fools backing out suddenly are very familiar from my trips round the town too!

  • Thanks very much zh84! I hope your friends enjoy it too! :)

  • I enjoyed this view of St. Andrews. I will be visiting Scotland in August of next year. Your video has motivated me to put St. Andrews on the itinerary. Nothing in the USA looks as old as those walls around the university.

  • You should see the Abbey - 13th century! Thanks for watching AND for the subscrption! :)

  • I went to Scotland in the late 1970's. I fell in love with the Highland cattle, and Edinburgh, but could've skipped Glasgow (we caught a train from there)!

  • Gary, I smiled thru the whole thing. Loved the "Chariots of Fire" and the 500 mph parts.

  • Yeah, the brakes were sure smoking by the time I got home that day! hehehe! Glad you enjoyed it Trena! :)

  • and I like driving thru puddles...lol :)~

  • Great job!! Sorry I've just gotten around to viewing it now... But gee, one magazine spread and you're already perfecting your, "I want to be left alone..." :-)

  • It's the constant hounding from the paparazzi. I wear a tinfoil hat now so at least they can't invade my thoughts.

  • Was there really a magazine spread about you?

  • Yeah, Wren, if you watch a previous video called 'A pair of shorts' all will be explained! ;)

  • thanks 4 the showing us the home of golf B.T,or is that saying in regards to all of Scotland, I forget, Wow! what a home run trip, was hanging on tight...

  • Thats amazing, its such a small world! Im a med student at st andrews, and i am in stA right now. Great film! Thanks mate

  • Ha ha! You're most welcome! Sma' world indeed! Glad you enjoyed it!

  • When was this filmed? I went there in august and it was much sunnier, although the wind got a bit irritating after a while.

  • I filmed it just last Thursday and yeah, that wind coming right off the North Sea can be a bit.... intense! :)

  • this is sooooo cool! and i love that song by the cure...so good.

some parts of scotland decidedly look like some parts of portland.

also, you're driving on the wrong side of road.

  • This is a great video...the music, the editing, the town. Wonderful job!!! :)

  • Thanks for the tour Gary! Was a blast...from the trek through the puddles to the warp speed return trip. :)

  • Thanks mate! Yeah, that return trip sure put a strain on the drive components!!! heheh. :)

  • Oh, BTW, Good video. Enjoyed it Immensly. The weather reminds why I woud never want to move there.. lol..

  • Bugger That.. Those roads are so narrow.. I'd be wiping out too many cars, the way I drive..

  • When you have a 4mm box-section, military-grade steel bumper up front and 2-tons of Solihull's finest behind it - you don't tend to worry about 'other' cars so much! ;)

  • The ultimate playing in puddles! LOVE the idea of mounting the cam. St. Anfrews is gorgeous. I wish I could live there.

  • The rest of the beach carpark is just grass and it's really bumpy. Everyone else sticks to the edges - I go through all the bumps and puddles - it's the most fun you can have in a carpark!

  • The people out here drive through the puddles when it rains. The roads flood, they get swept away, have to call Emergency to get rescued! NEVER drive through "puddles" in Arizona!

  • Those two guys with the carts? There's no market down there! The mind surely boggles! probably students. If it looks wierd - blame it on the students!

  • I could seriously do with a Land Rover out here. I think it would be a great Idea if everyone made videos of there local area sort of a YouTube Guide to the world...

    <(o)>

  • Land Rovers look like fun! Enjoyed being ferried around St Andrews. I would FREAK OUT driving on narrow roads like that again. The Defender is REALLY expensive in the 'States, even second-hand. I'm thinking about a nice used Rangie, but they need lots of tender love with all the air suspension, etc. What do you think - would you recommend a Rangie? - 4.6HSE - not the latest model but the one before.

  • Definately, but whip out the air suspension and replace it with coils, then get the beast where it belongs - in the rough! Hehe. The good thing about a 21y/o 110, is you don't care about the odd knock here and there - add to the character - not so a big Rangie! There's just something about having that green oval up front!

  • Oh - cool! - I didn't know you could do that. There are some nice Rangies in Texas - the climate is warm and dry, so no rust. Same for California where I live. You should see what happens to Rangies - it makes me cry - the "gangstas" buy them and put 21-inch chrome wheels and 5kW soud systems and blacked-out windows. Look nice I guess but I think it's a tragedy!

  • I know. I look at them in the same way as those poor poodles - all poms and puffs, when all the mutt wants is to get on with some serious butt-sniffing and rolling in the muck!!

  • I kept thinking about driving my car through those narrow Scottish streets, and wondered if I could park it in those head-in parking spaces! I own a 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V. It's 20 ft. long and about 7 ft. wide! I have a video about it called "Andy Baby". It's a beautiful old car! :-)

  • Going to check that out right now!
