I love track and field and I doubly love Kenyan athletes!! This race breaks my heart, but if anyone is to beat a Kenyan, I only wish that it is an Ethiopian!! Gebre and Bekele and other Ethiopians have made long distance fun to watch (not like the steeple chase where Kenyand will Gold, Silver and Bronze) :) Shout out to El Garrouje of Algeria (Google if youve never heard his name)
Doesnt matter where they are from, just look this titans and this amazing finish! one of the best ever! this is one of the things thats make me love running :)
U think on the field you r better than Kenyans??. Go watch the last African championships, and if that doesn't show you how inferiour ur runners are compared to the miggty Kenyans then watch the World championships in Daegu..and don't forget to sing the Kenyan national anthem when u r done.
Mute the sound on this video and instead play the song "Demise Of Barbara, And The Return of Joe" starting at 2:15 into the song. That music fits perfectly for this video.
It is usually a very sad moment for me everytime I watch this video. On that fateful night in Sydney, I rose to congratulate my fellow countryman Tergat because he had 'finally beaten Geb' only to be shocked. Geb somehow found a way to beat him.
These two greats are the quintessence of athletics. Great stuff! Long live Ethiopia, long live Kenya!

This last 100 meters was ~11.5 seconds. Amazing. You can't ask for anything more from these two absolutely phenomenal athletes. Such a beautiful video and race.
This video annoys me so much. Coming round the last bend of the 10,000m is not a relaxing moment and it is certainly not soothing. So why the hell would anyone put this music to such an intense, lung-bursting pursuit? It makes NO sense at all.
@scrumpymanjack True! But because it's so calm and soothing, it serves as a perfect contrast to the physical strain and desperation those two are feeling at that moment. And at the same time, their stride is so perfect and smooth, much like the song as well
Please check out my channel & ask me any questions that u may ahve on running may it be beginning, intervals, long runs, half-marathons, marathons or injuries. Feel free to ask me anything!
great video, great atheletes. Both Geb and Tergat are great men and friends. Tergat won the 12 km cross country 5 times back to back and he is a legend in Kenya. He even went a head to compete in the cross country last year for hisKenya Airforce military team. what a high sense of discipline! God bless Geb, God bless Tergat for a great show in Sydney.
In slow motion you can see how Geb lands on the balls of his feet and never lands on his heels. This allowes him to keep his center of gravity in front of his hips. Cuts down the shock the legs absorb in running. It's one thing everyone can cut down on by running barefoot once in a while. When you run barefoot you move the weight over the hips or slightly in front which really makes for better mechanics. The africans are amazing
@CoachTracy209 no serious runner lands on their heels. Those nooby joggers who do aren't even runners. And these people are professionals they are supposed to know how to run.
@FourSeasonRunner and i can run marathon distance without touching the ground, yea as long as it's a comment on youtube you nothing you say carry's weight
@Chocosizzles I know it's horrendous and the longer you go the stronger it gets and you always have this dilemma of running a bit faster or slowing down just a little bit to ease the pain.
I was there that night. It was one of the last events and many in the crowd had started to leave. I knew it was going to be a good race but I was not expecting it to be one of the greatest sporting events I have ever seen. His technique in the last 50 meters was flawless and that got him over the line.
Esta a sido una de las mas hermosas finales de atletismo(10,000mts.) Con dos de los mejores corredores mundiales. El esfuerzo(el tiempo de preparaciòn) y la recompensa(es el triunfo). saludos.
What happens to Tergat just before the line? There is a moment when their strides are identical, it's beautiful, but then Tergat stumbles, his stride falters and Haile who maintains the fluidity continues on to win. It would have been amazing had they both crossed the line together.
this is a masterpiece. i have watched it a number of times and i am not getting bored. Just watching the emperor's perfect floating stride as well as the pain they are all enduring with each step is mind blowing.
great. now that he's won, can he go eat something?!?!
