Lossless is when you save a creation to a playable file without losing any quality in the process. It's the same with images, has to do with compression and all that. .JPG isn't lossless, .PNG and .BMP are, for example. JPG compresses images, the other two don't. I think for music it would be .WAV and .MP3, with .WAV being lossless. Not sure though, I'm not really that much of a techie.
