The Tonga Trench is almost as deep at 35,400 some feet deep. Only 500 feet deeper the Tonga Trench would be the deepest trench.

However, the Marianas Trench does have me curious as do most of the other ones. I would never want to go down there in a submarine for fear of the windows cracking under the immense pressure from above.

On the Discovery Channel I think it was showed this exploration from Piccard and Lt. Walsh. When they got almost to the bottom they heard a bang and looked and one of the windows had indeed cracked!! That would have been it for me, I would have had heart failure right then and there lol. What was cool listening to them was they said when they were real deep they started seeing lights and it was the sea life that was glowing. Now I bet that was something to see.

Think in terms of "SCALE". The point of the animation was to show the general details of the trench formation. You seem to think on a very "sound bite" level. A "hole" doesn't necessarily mean that its some round dark hole in the ground, and if someone showed you a picture of Mt Everest you would probably still say,"that's not that big, it's only the size of my hand!"

I'm not very clear with what does the world really know about the trench, but anytime i try find more articles, i get the same old crap we already have.
