I've never seen a crowd so utterly mystified. I can't say I blame them. If some clowns decided to come and play some avant-garde synthpop to me, I'd be fucking terrified too.
THE A.O.N. were HOT in the states as well as overseas ..... they perfected what most HIP HOP artists have just picked up on in recent years - the art of playing/sampling/digital programming to create MUSIC ...... your big name RAP PRODUCERS are just doin' what A.O.N. stumbled upon in the 80s ..... A.O.N. STILL KICKS ASS !!! Let's see today's producers come up with original stuff like this ? I THINK NOT !!
Art of Noise in the raw!!!! Brilliant!!! The audience must of been scratching their heads wondering what the hell was going on!!!! No-one ever used sampling like Art of Noise, before or since. Very tongue-in-cheek.
As a fan of all those early 80's ZTT products (Frankie goes to Hollywood, Propaganda, Art of Noise), I've always been captivated by the whole ZTT presentation - from their bizarre album liner notes to the inspiring recordings.
Thanks (Hank) for uploading this video. What a treat!
To previous comment on playback, you ever play a Fairlight? No thought not. I have owned 2, this is genius, the fact that all 3 are in sync is a feat in it's own right, Dr Click, linked to a Linn LM1 via tape sync and outputting to the Fairlights, awesome, those where the days!! So please don't comment of you understand what you are watching, this was musical history - the start of the revolution.....tra la la.
Just the best... still holds up as incredible music years later... guess that's what happens when the music is so well composed. But geez, that crowd... if only they knew they were witnessing musical history. But I must say.... I would have been slightly more excited in the post-Horn "In Visible / In No Sense?" era... am I crazy for thinking those two records (with "Who's Afraid", of course) were their best?
Go I love this song... the crowd was DEAD though.... I"m listening and popping in my seat right now... I can't imagine how I would be if I saw them live
What was that computer on the desk? 0:03 A vic 20? comadore 64? lol You have to have had one to understand.

TamzinQ 2 years ago
@TamzinQ Look lets be honest. TAON were never mainstream popular.
They did what they did but never became massive in the top 40 or popular with proper 80s musicains.
A handfull of people in the 80s loved them.

@alienmode You dont like the truth.
I like them. To really judge something you have to look at what was happening around it.
Art Of Noice had a fan group that REALLY love the music.
But TAON werent a Duran Duran or The Smiths.
Look at that crowd for example.
