@ComteLafon I grew up in Lambourn and knew some of his connections and they acknowledge that York race as a pointless mistake. He should have either been saved for the Arc that year or rested for the top races in '76 but there was tremendous pressure to capitalise on his stud potential.
@littlebay75 I don't think he's under-rated - the trouble is there are an awful lot of great horses to remember in the last 40 years because there's more video footage of them, so perhaps he's just another 'great'! But 15,000 views of Grundy v Bustino mean he's not forgotten. And it's easier to overlook horses who did all their best work spring-summer - he didn't even get to the Arc. Why he was allowed to run at York 3 weeks after the King George is beyond me.
