It'd be wrong to ask him to do the part not only because Heath Ledger's performance was so iconic; but also because Johnny Depp would be copying another actor's interpretation of the character rather than doing something unique and, frankly, Depp is beyond such jobs at this point in his career.
I say they just let it be. It was an incredible performance and no one, no matter how talented, is gonna make us forget he's not Heath Ledger (even if Heath himself managed to fool me a few times).

depp is a great actor, he has been nominated for an oscar almost every year. if they want to bring depp as the joker they should do it in the fifth or sixth movie which should be based around 15 years in the future and joker escapes from arkham asylum for revenge, older joker should= much more deadly

johnny dep is one of the few actors that could pull the joker off but you could also trust him to try and keep it as close as he could to heath ledgers. he's one person who may not do the the same job as ledger, but who can. hes somebody that could do as close a job as anyone, and he wont feel as much pressure as someone that is less unknown

He wouldn't be the Joker... Like, some people, I would forget about the actor and say "That's the Joker"... But Johnny Depp?? No, he might be good, but I'd rather just not see the attempt. I am almost sure, however, that he will be in this series, some way or another. Daniel Day Lewis, according to some reports, may be the next Joker... So, what I think would be pretty cool, is to put "The Penguin" and/or "Black Mask" and Catwoman" in the third. Then maybe, just maybe, "The Joker" and "Riddler"?

The only role I can see Depp as, would have to be the Riddler.
The Joker should be given a one-movie break for now.
If they want a Joker to match Heath Ledger, then they should cast Mark Hamill. He's a veteran actor, and he's totally captured the Joker's persona since like 1992.
