It could be for a bunch of different reasons, but most bands who tour a lot (Queen, Muse) usually play their songs in a lower key, so it's easier for the lead singer or else they risk permanently damaging their voice. The Strokes don't change keys. They try to play it the same way every time, so sometimes Julian's voice breaks off when he sings too high.

Still, I was kind of bummed that he couldn't hit the high note, too.
