  • So very beautiful and so moving. Love this - thank you !

  • I fully agree, her singing is somewhat addictive - I keep going back to listen to her. She has a beautiful voice and her singing is usually impeccable.

  • BRAVA! Carajo!!! qué cantante!!!! Por Dios, bellísimo. Me conmovió realmente. BRAVAAAAAA gracias a Oneguien65 que siempre está subiendo cosas y compartiendo registros y documentos interesantes en esta enciclopedia!

  • This is not her right repertory. But she is still very good. (Better than many tipical Puccini-singers). Golden voice, perfect tecnique, good acting.

  • much of this aria actually sits quite low...she sounds wonderful. this is one of my favorite versions on youtube.

  • The most promising voice I've heard in 20 years.

  • She does exquisitely to my taste~lovely just needs to look more in love and happy! SOund is wonderful, stop frowning!

  • is this nosey parker a german? the guy i meant.

  • @ur1sob2001 I think it's Leo Nucci

  • @ur1sob2001 I think it's Leo Nucci

  • Angelica Kirchschlager sings an "enormity"! The more one listen her the more one becomes addicted to her voice and singing ! BRAVA !

  • @lamsalgado You are so right on! Her voice is addicting! I am partial to a few versions of this song, but I've added her as one of my favorites.

  • sehr gut gesungen, wenn sie auch beim "Vokal A" eine leichte Schwäche hat. Gute Interpretation, gute pianotöne.

  • What a nose! Is that his real nose?...oh yeah, I also thought Angelica sang this very well. :) I was just distracted by the nose.

  • Comment removed

  • If you look, you will realize that the "nose" referred to is the prosthetic device on the older gentleman playing her father. Often it is better review things before posting something incendiary.

  • My bad. The mouth is truly the front gate of all misfortune.

  • No problem! I do love your reply and if you don't mind, mcsas. I am going to use it as my signature on my e-mail and text messages. Does it have an origin, other than from you?

  • shes no Leontyne Price but still good.

  • Very well sung, but... a little more "ITALIANITÂ" ci vuole. It´s needed especially in the portamenti. Don´t get me wrong but, that´s something singers especially from the German speaking countries don´t do well. I don´t know why.

  • Bravo Angelika!!!

jetzt hab ich Gänsehaut, schöner kann man das nicht singen.

  • GREATTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

  • I saw this live back then. I loved it. Not only was it sung well, it was played well, and so was one of the most memorable evenings I've ever spent at the Vienna State Opera.

Nucci, Florez and Kirchschlager - what a cast!

  • There was nothing at all wrong with her rendition...It was right on the spot and done beautifully...

  • I knew she was a soprano

  • Well, no. Definitely not an aria for her...!

  • I like it.

  • People who argue via YouTube comments are pathetic. Thats MY opinion. Let's see any one of you sing like this, then come back and argue about it.

  • exactly!

  • what happened to comments about this soprano... i think she did a really nice job!

  • I still don't think she's right for this role. My opinion. I'm entitiled to it. I think she's far too dark for this role, and by God I'll continue to think it till kingdom come. She'd be far better in Traviata or Boheme.

  • I'll agree with the Traviata/Boheme comment, as i've seen her perform Sempre Libera in concert.

  • q bonito!

  • She's far too dark for this role. Lauretta is to be played by a light lyric soprano. Not one boardering on Spinto! No she is not right for this role. She makes the character seems as though she's in her thirties with the color of her voice. She'd do better to play roles such as Mimie or Leonora from Forza. Not Lauretta.

  • there's no set fach for lauretta, wtf? you're going by usual recordings, not what the actual character is played by. puccini wrote very little for that voice type, and this is not one of those roles. this is not musical theatre, you're not supposed to have a little voice to play a young role. that's such a dumb mindset and makes no sense. the maturity of a voice should not denote what character they play, the fach should. since there is no fach, there's no set requirement. how dumb of you. lol.

  • Tell that to all the professionals. Voice type dose determine roles people can, and should play, and roles they can not, and should not, play. You don't hear Heldensopranos singing Rusalka, and you don't hear lyrics playing Turandot.

  • first of all, have the smarts to realize i didn't even say that, and that i made sure i DIDN'T say that. i said maturity not voice type. maturity is not a type or fach. there is such thing as a not so mature heldentenor where the voice is heavy yet the timbre is light. do not misquote me when what i have said is right in front of your face. if i would have said that voice type doesn't matter then i would sound as misguided as you. types determine it but, in this case, THERE'S NO SET TYPE.

  • There are indeed set fachs for each role no matter the opera, it might not be written in the music but any director worth his salt should know what voice type to hire his performers in. Not just for their beautiful quality.

  • and no, this is not true. you're going by what's usually done. there are times when that's appropriate for say, wagner. do you even know the role of lauretta? little light sopranos record the aria but can't handle the role. full lyrics are the ideal casting because lauretta has some meat to her vocally. you have such an immature inexperienced view. you obviously don't know the role to talk the way you do. edmundo in manon lescaut can be played by a light tenor or heavier. some are set, this isnt

  • My advice to you. Stop arguing about the music, and get a life living it. Of coarse with that attitude, should be difficult. I mean, when you have to be right in every situation, not many people are going to like you. Sorry. Again it's a matter of opinion.

  • i dont you're the one stating your opinion like fact insulting others, i dunno why people haven't beat you to a pulp yet for being such an asshole. and music creates arguments especialyl when someone like YOU doesn't know what they're talking about. it's not even that your stated your opnion by fact, but your opinion is highly uneducated and mediocre that it makes one quite sick. LEARN, and you get a life and a knowledge please.

  • But I will not apologies for my opinions, and I will not apologies for my views on music, opera, and performers. They are mine to have and to be kept. With that I end this contest of wit and foolish childlike behavior. Good day Madame or sir, whatever you be. I wish you all the best in life.

  • Peace be with you from here on out. I hope you succeed in whatever venues you pursue, and I do hope you give up your pride, as I here by submit mine to you. If any offense I have dealt you, my sincere apologies.

  • I could be very arrogant as to my esteemed accomplishments in music. The many awards and honors that I have been awarded. But I shall keep those anonymous. To each person, opinion is fact within there own minds. But I have grown tired of this petty charade. And I've grown tired of you. I shall continue to let my opinions be known, though I suspect I shall have you on my back at every turn refuting them and seeking trouble. But that's your problem, no longer mine.

  • you're 23, get a life whiulke you still have a chance, and quite LYING about your "esteemed accomplishments" pfft. you're probably fresh out of undergrad from a crappy state school voice program and after 5-6 opera lectures and talking to a bunch of "coulda-shoulda-woulda" opera wannabees you think you're the best and know everything. go to grad at a good school (if you'd even get in anyplace) and learn real stuff about opera, not forcing basic mediocre opera opinions on others. i'm done.

  • I hope you find some measure of peace in life. I hope you find a measure of happiness. But I'm not going to let you ruin mine. I'll not let your baseless hatred interfere with my peace of mind. I do hope you learn to let go of you anger that you feel towards me. Best wishes in life.

  • Wow. Here I tried to be humble and apologies and wish you well and leave it be. But that wasn't good enough for you. I feel truly sorry for you. I do pity you, and I do not mean that in a pious self-righteous sense, I truly do feel pity for you. What type of pain have you gone through that you would seek to attack me, me whom you don't even know.

  • hahaha, i'm not attacking you. i'm telling you that your opinion that you rudely stated as fact was wrong in the eyes of most notable opera people. andin fact, i'm not mad at all. little spats like this just make me laugh. and you're getting very upset. and no you don't you don't feel sorry or pity, because that's stupid and you don't enjoy this. and loom i tried to end it by saying "i'm done" yet you have to keep going. grow up and stop trying to "be humble" cause it's cheap and annoying. STOP.

  • I'm going to pray for you. That's all. May Christ Jesus bless you.

  • hahaha, ok. look, don't pretend like you "know me" i've got jesus, and keeping little spats like this going on and on with cheap little comments to the end means you need jesus more than i do. i don't need you to pray for me. and you're not praying for me, so don't lie. seriously, just stop talking and grow up, you're spamming this video.

  • Such vituperative comments from you, juillhope. I see too often that you pounce on those who dare to voice their critiques. Criticism of artists in the public eye and ear is essential, while your obnoxious posturing is disturbing. For all your rant, your comments suggest that it is you, not those you attack, who needs more experience (or paxil, or a labotomy). Only someone completely insecure in her abilities would make such a silly comment about a "crappy state school." Grow up.

  • Juilliard MM '94. Christopher Plummer got an honorary doctorate that year, and the commencement speaker was Jane Alexander, head of the NEA. You need to be much more professional in your attitude if you hope to have any career in music. Remember what happened to Kathleen Battle...the days of the bitch soprano are over. Critique those in the public sphere (i.e. Netrebko), absolutely, but refrain from attacking your colleagues and peers about whom you know nothing.

  • I'm not going to argue with you on this subject anymore. You are obviously obsessive. It's a matter of opinion. Live with your and for God sakes let me live with mine. You have a serious problem if the whole basis of your life is arguing with me over a matter so simple.

  • who basis of my life? don't make yourself look like the victim and me the obsessor because it's a cheap attempt. you stated your opinions like fact and in your crappily written messaget to me you did the same. you keep saying you're making an opinion while attacking mine all because you were talking like your opinion is law, really GROW UP. you know very little, and you need to learn a lot more. LISTEN TO THIS WHOLE OPERA, don't just talk to people who've done it, and recordings of the song.

  • I like the low pitches that no sopranos can give us..so I always wanted to hear that Aria in a Mezzo color ... Is wonderful

  • I agree, she has a beautiful voice but not for this aria, even if a mezzo sings it, it still needs spun high notes not ff

  • thank you to post this video i'm liric soprano and this area for me to sing was very difficult and i was very surpreased that a mezzo can this this opéra it was very beautiful . to sing well this opéra correstly i work hard three month she is a very good singer

  • I like it. That (2nd to the) last Pieta is not shouted at all and it "spins". There are sopranos that darken more than she does naturally as a mezzo, and she looks cute!

  • The mezzo voice does not fit this aria. It must besung all legato and soft, with spinning high notes not shouted

  • I think she's a high mezzo, and therefore can sing soprano roles, as in this piece.

  • is she kidding me? never heard her as a soprano
