  • Such an overrated movie.

The black guy has the shining right ? Sooo the shining is good for NOTHING! Because he is the first to die!

  • what i dont get is why there are no gardeners taking care of the labyrinth. wouldnt it get fucked up over the time of 5 month?

  • Jack Nicholson is cool, but movie was so-so to my mind, the book scared all the shit out of me though

  • Rofl!!!!! Here's jonny!

  • THE BEST HORROR MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!

  • brilliant trailer.

  • I love this film. The other one looks crap. Jack did a good job

  • Watched this movie last year and love it so much. Can anyone recommend me a similar movie to this or Rosemary's Baby?

  • Ah scary but the guy stunk the girl cept killing him

  • Too bad Jack did not have access to Facebook back in the day...whole thing could have been avoided.

  • The music that begins at :39 is priceless.

  • Thank you! Your trailer actually made sense to me!

  • Everytime... I look at his face when he says "HEEERE'S JOHNNY"... I begin cracking up laughing.

  • based on a true story

  • maybe not the most scariest movie ever but definately one of the most EXCITING!!!!!

  • nice job

  • fact: the two epic words "HERE's JOHNNY" were UNSCRIPTED..... jack nicholson made them up on the spot....

THUMBS UP SO THAT EVERYONE CAN SEE :D

  • @DADDYnick007 This of course was the intro for Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show, but most people in college today wouldn't even know that.

  • @DADDYnick007 for me .....that spoiled the moment which made the rest not so intense...and I love my Jack Nicholson!!

  • In other Words, He AD-LIBED!!!

  • The absolute most terrifying movie ever made, no pop ups or jumps yet Kubrick makes the most horrifying and thrilling film in cinematic history

  • Comment removed

  • I thought I was ready to watch something related to the movie after 6-ish months since I've seen it.

...Well, I didn't want to sleep tonight anyway.

  • I shouldn't really be saying that this movie is actually quite funny at 13 should I?

  • if this is scary.. you have to harry poter..

  • RedRum

  • ohhhhhhh now THAT is how you make a trailer. good Lord, my goosebumps just hit the roof. gaaaahhh

  • imo this trailer is way more scary than the movie is

  • The Worst movie ever,im 13 and i watched just the last scene when he was chasing the kid,Its so not scary!

  • @TheNemke360 Watch out, we got a badass over here

  • @TheNemke360 are you saying that's all you saw of the movie?

And if not, did you ever see a movie that scared you?

  • 35 years on, I still get scared! Great movie and great work with this YT video.

  • whats the music?

  • People who are confused why Jack was in the 1921 picture was because HE was the caretaker, and died along the fire along with the others who were staying at the hotel. The spirits became evil, among Jack who was recarnaited into another body that ironically looked like his older body from 1921. That's why he felt like it was Deja Vu in the beginning of the movie, because he was indeed there before. Hope that makes somethings clear. :)

  • Fuck Stephen King, long live the new flesh on Kubrick!

  • Great work on this trailer. Really well done.

  • Stephen king didn't want jack nicholson because he wanted someone who looked normal who you wouldn't expect to descend into madness.

  • Eve, at the biginning Jack Nicholson looks crazy, coz he's jack nicholson Lol

  • But to think that one man originally came up with this idea, Stephen King is a genius!

  • nice

  • all work and no play makes john a dull boy

  • @MrTHEBLACKMERCURY you've got to see the Shining! The "Shinning" from the Simpsons was fucking hilarious though.

  • how did he came out of that room with food?

  • The Simpsons brought me here

  • excellent editing!

  • great trailer. thought it was the official movie trailer.

  • Ya honestly if i had to look after a hotel/live in a hotel like that for the winter with my loving family there is absolutly no way that i would ever become like that

  • What i couldn't quiet understand was that the hotel manager informs jack about the incident that supposedly took place in 1970, yet in the end we see a picture of Jack in 1921 ?! I don't see any connection between those two things :/

  • this should have been the actual trailer. this. is. awesome.

  • Awesome movie

  • The best phrase: "Here's Johnny!"

  • I want to find the dumbass halfwit who nominated this film a Razzie for "Worst Director" as Stanley Kubrick.

  • Kubricks Shining is better than the book, the later movie more closely follows the book, but this is far better.

  • Hahaha! That kid's face is priceless!

  • no thanks syprexa

  • holly shit but the part where johnny is like" here's johnny" is totally what chucky should have said on seed of chucky in the last scene of the hospital

  • 1:37 epic scene :D

  • Im 13 and i watchd this whit my Grandma yesterday :D I love it

  • Wendyy , I'm hooome

  • DUDE! My best friend's great uncle is Stanley Kubrick. Ever since I found that out i've been trying to see his movies

  • @katzgonemadd orrlly

  • @DramaKaw i guess they added them to make the film more exciting/scary.

  • 1:38 H@H@H@

  • Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Jhony!!!

  • The book is fantastic! I haven't seen the film yet but I guess I should soon, to compare. :P

  • Check out how I ruined the end of my trailer with ads!

  • whats up with the two twins???????

  • @noelle201011 They were Delbert Grady's daughters. Who were murdered by Grady.

  • In my opinion, this movie was a lot like It. It was more humorous than scary. I mean, how the hell can you ever take Jack Nicholson's performance seriously?

  • @DramaKaw haha.. true !! I havent watched this movie yet but ure right - its gonna be hard to take Nicholson serious. lol

  • R33MIX sent me here.

  • The book itself was impressive. If I had seen the movie before, it wouldn´t.

  • HEAR IS JONNIE!!!!!!!xaxaxxaxaxaxa

  • THE KILL!!!!! like if you understand.

  • @Rafa95Echelon HELL YEAH! 3OSTM!!!

  • i love that film but i really hoped that jack kill his wife cause shes fucking ugly

  • I've watched a lot of Horror movies In my 13 years of life and I have to say, this is by far the best one yet!!!

  • top commentors need grammar lessons lol.

  • his face expressions are crazy

  • This is possibly the greatest movie ever made. I saw it only a year ago and have watched it so many times since. It keeps you guessing, wondering what the meaning behind all the clues are. I am absolutely fascinated by it. Love it so much.

  • @allthoseprettylight1 I am reading the book :>...and I am at the chapter 16 of 58 and I love it...I'm reading it at school =))

  • @mikytrex I received the book as a Christmas present this year and I can't wait to start reading it! I have heard that it explains a lot more than the movie does (:

  • Very well done! Thank you!

One can see in this movie how Jack Nicholson could do the "maniacal laughing killer" persona that he would later develop fully as the The Joker in "Batman".

  • very good moovie

  • they sure dont make horror movies like they used to

  • Movie was amazing of course the book is better that's the case with about every movie .

  • this is the creepiest movie ever

  • @BRYANT19091 i agree, i watched it last night and had to sleep in my parents bedroom :P good movie, going to try and watch it today... wish me luck lol

  • God, I hated this movie. Hated hated hated hated hated hated hated hated this movie. Hated it. Hated every fucking minute of this piece of shit horror film. Hated the idea that people would actually be scared by it. Hated the implied insult to Stephen King and all of his devoted fans by deviating from the book and putting in a watered-down mess.

Stanley Kubrick is a great filmmaker, but this is possibly the worst film he has ever made.

This is my honest opinion and I am sticking to it.

  • @DramaKaw I thought it was the best film ever made. I watch it several times a year and never get tired of it. Especially at Halloween. Particularly the creepy scene at the gold room, the 4th of July ball. That scene really gives me the chills, and takes me back to a past life in a similar situation. And it's about him flashing back on HIS past life. Anyone with a true cosmic, spiritual sensitivity will connect with this film, as I do. And Jack's acting is unsurpassed. His best, ever.

  • @DramaKaw what changes did the film make?

i haven't read the book just wondering what differs from the book?

  • @CharlotteLestrange Well, here are a the differences:

    1) In the film, the hotel was supposedly built on top of a Indian burial ground, while the book hints that the hotel is itself sentient.

    2) The apparition of the twins in the hallway, the dead woman in Room 237 and the hedge maze chase were made up just for the film.

  • @CharlotteLestrange 3) In the book, Jack is a sane man who was trying to put his life back together after a drinking problem, but when he stays at the hotel, it pocesses him because it couldn't pocess his son, Danny. At the end of the novel, Jack fights the hotel and returns to sanity and gets his family out before the hotel explodes due to an unstable boiler, where he dies. In the film, however, Jack is practically insane throughout.

  • @DramaKaw Again, think of the movie as completely separate from the book. King and Kubrick have different styles and they each had their take on this story.

If you weren't scared by the movie, I can't change that. But Kubrick wasn't insulting Stephen King. And it's not watered-down if it's a completely different story.

I was personally terrified by this film. But even if you weren't, just because something is different doesn't make it bad.

  • I don't think the point of this movie is to be scary.. but something else.. it is just psychological, and you have to understand it.

  • i didnt recognise that the sounds were on 100% and i sad with a knife scrabing something off my nails and i got a shock because of this and cutted me in fy finger it hurted and now i wanna see the movie X)

  • This film looks great, I haven't seen it yet though(;

  • @Naydeenx Well if you're a fan of psychological horror like I am then I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Whenever I see it I'm always on the edge of my seat :)

  • Maybe the best movie what I've ever saw :)

  • I think I'll watch this tonight! I'm 15, and I love horror movies!!

  • @candygirl021 im 12 and i love em

  • @candygirl021 im 14, and it's shit scary. Good luck if you havent seen it yet!

  • Much better than the book. And that is not something anyone will often say

  • @marktrib when it comes to Kubrick, both The Shining and A Clockwork Orange were way better than their books imo.

  • @CarSVernon I have to disagree. The film couldn't convey the real plot of The Shining, which was that Jack was possessed by the spirit of the hotel.

  • @TaylorKinsley Yeah but I dont care what the real plot was. I prefer it this way. Torrance was messed up before the hotel. To imply otherwise is strange. He had drinking issues and job issues and family issues. Not to mention that the book has silly stuff like hedge animals and the (to me) ridiculous ending. A book and a movie don't have to be the same thing, and in this case I'm happy they aren't.

  • @CarSVernon Except Stephen King isn't 'implying' anything. It's pretty much impossible, given that he WROTE THE BOOK.

And the point is that being 'messed up before the hotel' is what made him susceptible to the possession. It's a shame you're too limited to understand the book properly.

  • @TaylorKinsley I agree with you 100% It was a great book and Stanley Kubrick ruined it for me.

  • @TaylorKinsley There's nothing I wrote that would warrant you taking a personal swipe. I suggest you calm down and accept other views. I read The Shining before I saw the movie, I read several King books before that, I love King, but still prefer this movie to the book. Hopefully you won't throw another hissy at a different opinion. You, or the other pressed people on here.

  • @marktrib No, it's the other way around. Believe me.

  • @DramaKaw How about you try to believe there are valid reasons to disagree?

  • @CarSVernon The only reason Stanley Kubrick even made this film is because Barry Lyndon performed poorly at the box office and he had to make a movie that had to make money.

I was very glad that Stephen King didn't like the film and I, along with other devoted King fans, did too.

  • @DramaKaw Think of the movie as its own creation, completely separate from the book.

And don't try to pass of Kubrick as a bad director. This was the guy who did 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, and Apocalypse Now. It's one thing to not like his stuff, but the guy made some of the most renowned and influential movies of all time. That is a fact.

  • @ShadowACS That is very true, but Stephen King himself even said he did not like the movie adaption of his book. He thinks it somehow ruined the message he was trying to portray through it, which was to spend more time with your family. Even so, I still desperately want to watch this movie *-*

  • @marktrib i don't think so. the book scared the shit out of me. in a film it's much easier to scare the shit out of somebody.

  • @marktrib nicholson's pretty good in this one.

  • @marktrib Really? I liked the book MUCH more...

  • This movie was good, but I didn't find it as scary as Psycho.

  • Cool.

  • one of the best horror movies ever made

  • My all time favorite movie

  • Going to watch this for the first time tonight :D

  • Two words: fucking brilliant.

  • @JKM8511 Yeah I love the film! :)

  • I'm 13 and I watched this film last week it's not as scary as I thought but it's not like any other horror film. It's scary because it's really freaky in some parts. Should probably be a 15 in my opinion

  • I disliked this and I think it is not scary at all. It does not make sense how ppl like it much.

  • Wendy? darling? light, of my life. Im not gonna hurt ya. you didn't let me finish my sentence. I said Im not gonna hurt ya. I'm just going to bash your brains in. Gonna bash 'em right the fuck in! ha ha ha easily one of the greatest movies ever made. Jack Nicholson is awesome in there

  • who the hell dislikes this!? F***ing Trollz!!!!!

  • @itssolikethat maybe fans of Stephen King who were pissed off at this film!

  • It laughed when he said "HERE'S JOHNNY!!!" Lmao

  • o hell no i got scary from the first second

  • I feel I need a gif of the kid's face at 1:53

    it would just be

    perfect

  • I read Stephen King novel, and I understand why he didn't like that version. I'm not saying it's a bad movie, but it's just too different from the novel.

  • I watched the shining like a year back. It was an amazing film, but I didn't really find it that scary.....

  • @cduck04 It's not scary (Except for the old woman naked yuck!) it's just great entertainment!

  • You should look up why he wanted to direct this movie. It's crazy

  • This movie hunted me for so long now I'm 18 and I'm watching this again : D

  • my dad says this movie is the scariest of the scary!

  • i been to the hotel where steven king wrote the book the shining also this movie looks soo creepy

  • I've never seen the shining but my mom said if I ever do, alone, at night I'll pee myself!

  • Heres Johnny... Lol

  • The dad looks kinda like "Reed" from That 70's show

  • This is kristen stewart's favorite horror movie...

  • @KJ808123 GOD WHY?

  • anger manegment much?

  • I cant believe that some idiots cant see shining scary. IMO, i cant see anything scary if it has some fancy monsters and zombies in it. You see, its jsut plain dumb. But in shining you could actually see and feel how the dad slowly turns mad. Its scary because it could actually happen, and its scary because you never know when the dad is finally going to break. Its scary because its mentally tricking people. If one movie in the world would be scary, I think it would be this one.

  • @Ertsi94 and the massive hotel, thats scary just on its own

  • i love the way hes unique from all the other horror movies because it doesnt just jump out at you when you are expecting it jeje :D

  • the only scary thing about this movie, is the dad's face..

  • It's kind of funny when the crazy guy (I don't know his name) says: "HERE'S JHONNY!!!" XD lol

  • @MrUnknownSkater1000

you don't know who the crazy guy is? poor baby

  • @bailangwang are you one of those youtubers who live off insulting people so other youtubers go to his cannel, comment, and most important of all, they get more views on your channel? If yes, then you suck ass, bro.

  • @MrUnknownSkater1000

  • @bailangwang I kinda do to... and for anyone out there DO NOT VISIT MY CHANNEL!!!!!! IT SUCKS!!!!!!

  • i still like the simsons vergon lol

  • @joe8joke I'm happy someone shares my opinion

  • THUMBS UP if you have this movie in dvd. :)

  • Not Scary.

  • peeps say dis is da scaryest movie in the world

  • they should remake it in 3d :D

  • @cyobex no

  • never really liked the shining, first off it wasn't all that scary sure it's well lit as all of kubricks movies are but it does not work well as a horror movie.

nicholson carries the film with brilliant acting and the sets are spotless but it is a bit of a 'follow the herd movie' being carried on a river of hype.

  • 0:48 - biggest fucking pedo face.

  • 1:38 LOL XD

  • oma trauma :D
