@ChipmunkRaccoon3 judging by the pine forest, the mock uniforms of the "soldiers" and the "partisans". I'd say eastern europe. either it's the invasion of poland, orthe beginning of operation barbarossa.

but really, it's just a general parody world of WW2.

I've never seen this movie when I was a child, I guess that in Canada never have shown this movie before, but I found it on a website like a while ago I think or maybe last year I'm not sure when was that.

I REALLY LOVED THAT MOVIE. THE FIRST I WATCHED THIS WAS  IN ARABIC. TODAY I THE FILM MANY TIMES IN ENGLISH.

watched this film since I was a young child. looking back on it now, knowing what I know of the history of that era, makes it all the more chilling.

It's likely that the occupation that happens is either the occupation of Poland or Operation Barbarossa invading Russia through eastern Europe.

I'd love to see this, though I doubt I'll find it on the web, nor in French libraries. Shame, as I love this style of animation... Does anyone have any ideas for me? I'd also like to see Grave of the Fireflies.

@JusteunMusicien Grave of the fireflies is quite popular so you should be able to find it on a torrent site (piratebay), this being less popular is proving quite tricky to find.

My parents used this movie to introduce me to the inside story of the 2nd world war. This is so innocent. It doesn't explain whats going on- only how it doesn't make sense.

I remember some people visiting my school in 82 or 83 and screening this film - I was only 6 though I am amazed the movie is exactly i remember it. I have never forgotten the doll. I think there is some point in the movie that she loses it.
