Aww gidget and Moondoggie happily ever after! This was actually the first gidget movie I ever saw and I fell absolutly in love with it, after that I had to watch all the movies!
She and Jeff needed to have one more fight and then make up before dating again. I wasn't convinced they would just pick up their relationship like nothing had happened as soon as Alex was out of the picture. Also, I liked Alex way better.
Coach, even I don't fuss about those things...it's a lightweight coat, and a fur stole is worn for style, not warmth. It likely was around June or July when they did the location shooting, given how green the trees were.
Ok I've got a small issue with whoever did continuity - It's the Fourth of July in New York City - and she's wearing a coat and the woman outside Tiffany's is wearing a fur stole - that is just weird and wrong.
Ah, bless your heart for uploading this one. I saw it the first time it aired, when I was only fourteen. Gidget in NYC was the height of glamour to me! *Of course* she would get engaged to Moondoggie. It's a Hollywood romance!
Thanks for posting this movie. It brought back so many good memories. I used to love to watch all of the Gidget movies. I was a big fan of the ABC Movie of the Week and remember being so excited when I saw Gidget Grows Up in the TV Guide. This was very cutting edge at that time, it was fun to watch this character grow up. Oh and by the way I'm an African American woman and it was very realistic for me to see black people in this movie.
Black people in a Gidget movie? Just looks so out of place! Let's be real, Gidget is a character like Snow White, no way my mind could wrap around any of the 7 Dwarfs being black...come on!
This originally aired on ABC's "MOVIE OF THE WEEK" on December 30, 1969, 'mama', and was supposed to be a pilot for a new "GIDGET" series. The network passed on it, yet the studio tried again three years later, with "GIDGET GETS MARRIED" (featiuring Monie Ellis in the lead role, as Karen was already appearing weekly on "ROOM 222").
TIPTON, you would have to see all the Gidget movies. The one with Sandra Dee and James Darren was the best. I bought a "complete set" which only turned out to be the first three movies. Gidget Goes Hawaiian was pretty good too. James Darren was the only consistent thing in the movies... he played Moondoggie in the first three movies. Paul Peterson was the closest looking to him, and in Gidget gets married, they used a blonde. I think by then Gidget movies started getting a bit old.
Do you know were can I download this movie.. and the other two last Gidget movies (Gidget gets married and Gidget's Summer Reunion)??? I live in brazil, and here they don't sell any other Gidget movies but the first! Thanks!!!
This script was adapted by Frederick Kohner from his book Gidget Goes New York. In the series of books he wrote the next was Gidget Gets Married (also made into a TV movie). So changing the ending to fit a more contemporary times where women shunned marriage and kids wouldn't have worked. Also, someone had to get married and have kids.
@TIPTON340 Noooo!!!! Jeff is not just the boy next door! He and Frances have history together! I've watched all gidget movies untill this one.. and I love the together! Gidget and Moondoguie 4EVER!!!! =)
If I could change anything in this movie, it wouldnt be the and, but the midle... that Alex was old and had nothing to do with Gidg!
@AnaOvelha I agree that Jeff and Francie belonged together. In the films, they always had other people get between but by the end, they would make up and know the truth. Their futures were tied together.
Gidet and Moondoggie forever!

I really miss these "made for TV" movies...the ones they show today are crap.

I thought the movie ended on sort of a cop out, she should have continued on alone not settling for marrying the boy next door.
TIPTON340 3 years ago
I kind of agree with you on that. The ending was too easy and I would have written it differently.
