so you dont need sp1. so even if it says windows vista ultimate is it still ultimate. because i use my windows vista home basic and when installing it, its says what os i bought. so it shows a list, like premium, business, ultimate... is their a different. i dunno
Please tell me you're joking... Ultimate is simply a SKU of Vista with supposedly more features installed. Whether or not it has SP1 has nothing to do with its SKU, but when the copy was manufactured. If it was made after the release of SP1, then of course it'd have SP1. Similarly, if it was made before the release, how the hell can it have SP1 included?
Besides, IMO, Ultimate is overrated. I use Home Basic myself, and aside from missing Aero Glass, it works perfectly fine with games and CS4.
no x64 can cope with way more data than 32 bit can handle so should be quicker at running your applications and should use your prossesor more effectivly than what it would with 32bit prossesing
Actually he is right, because most applications that people will run in a 64 bit OS are 32 bit and almost all 32 bit applications (there are a few exceptions) simply run slightly faster in a native 32 bit OS.
Disagree. I say 2 GBs is enough. Unless you're into graphics/video/game editing, you're not going to need 4 GBs of RAM. During normal gameplay (on Vista 64-bit, so it can address all my RAM), I use about 1.5 GBs most. On Photoshop/Indesign/After Effects CS4 and Crysis map editor, I use 3.5 GBs max.
I can play games at very high detail, and can run many apps at once on just 2GB, I'm still getting 4GB for this though, you can never have too much ram!
You're an idiot. First of all, most latest games all use more than 2GB or at least run better with 2GB. Secondly, more ram allows you to have more programs open at the same time. And what are we really talking about here, for Pete's sake... it costs only 25 bucks or less to add the extra 2GB, even my 14 year old can make that amount of money by mowing 3 or 4 lawns....sigh. Like I said, you're an idiot.
There comes a point when there's too much RAM for the system to use all of. If you want to call me out, then go ahead. Cite your source, your monitoring programs, and your applications running.
In my own experience, using the Crytek Game Editor or Adobe CS4 are the only tasks that bring my RAM usage past 50% (out of 4 GBs total addressed by a x64 OS)
Like I said, feel free to disagree, but post your experience or your sources before you call me an idiot.
I'm sorry but you're an idiot. All gaming requirements are based on average systems, they don't take in account any extra processes that people having in the background,
The other issue is that many games benefit from superfetch, especially GTA 4, yet for superfetch to function well, it needs quite some memory, the reason why you often see on Vista 1-2GB in use with no main programs running.
Your logic is all based on running one application and that's were you logic starts to fail.
You also makes claims that no games use more nthan 2GB, it's total false claim. When I ran GTA 4 on Vista X64 with 4GB of ram it would use up to 3.7GB.
And if you claim that 3.5GB is enough for most basic photo/video editing than you're doing noob stuff. Go to any professional design studio and I can guarantee you that they use between 8-16GB
2GB is all based on a perfect world, with one application running, no extra junk in the system bar and no applications eating memory over time because of memory leaks.
Basically all large games nowadays have at least a recommended memory requirement of 2GB
Any skilled computer user knows that a computer needs room (=memory) to breath and trying to ignore that just for the sake of saving $12 for an extra 1GB of RAM is just the epitome of stupidty.
Nope, I'd say you're just a pissed little girl who wants to justify your purchase of 4GBs of RAM.
Guess what, I have 4GBs of RAM, and unlike you, I actually monitor my RAM usage. Again, during REAL TIME RUNs of applications, Crytek and CS4 are the only programs that take up more than 2GBs of memory.
All other programs I run, even with firefox, AIM, Skype, G15 LCD, LCDStudio, Steam, and Creative AI in the background, don't go past 2 GBs of RAM used
What do you know about computers...seriously...sigh. I work with computers since late seventies, had my first PC in 83, first Windows 2.03 in '87 and works as a professional system/network engineer since '87.
You talk about issues you don't understand. Modern computers get lots of their performance from caching. I run Vista X64 with 8GB of ram. When I check task manager I have 5.3GB cached, yes FIVE . THREE GIGABYTE.
Oh wait, maybe that explains why I can start Photoshop CS4 Extended in 1.5 second, I can start Outlook 2007 in one second, I can start XP in Vwware in 5 seconds leave them all open and also start Vegas, work on 4GB high def video and still have prorgams booting fast.

That's because of superfetch, that loads parts of most used programs even if you are not using then, to speed up those programs when you need them.
