This is what country music and pretty much all music should sound like. Real people playing Real instruments, and at some point the singer shuts up cause the music is saying more then words could ever express.
Each person is certainly entitled to their opinion. songwriting is a lifelong passion of mine and language one of my greatest loves which is why I got a masters in literature. In my opinion this is some of the best songwriting I have heard in a long time, or ever. Spoken directly in simple language, but really layered when you dig into. It's very sparse but an entire tale unravels both in the actual and the metaphorical laundry room that holds this virginal love.
I work 50 hrs a week and have a family. I could care less if youtube comments I post at midnight have perfect grammar.
Not to mention I was raised by my longshoreman father and have always kept a clear line between formal and informal speaking/writing. This falls under the informal for me. Perhaps youtube comments are a far more serious part of your life than they are mine. Thanks for the correction, I'm sure it made your day.
Well written with some of the best lyrics out there. They really have a knack for writing stuff that almost anyone can relate to & there music is emotionally impacting. If you really like them you might also want to check out Old Crow Medicine Show too. They are another really good young bluegrass band & they are from my neck of the woods, Wilkesboro NC. Check out the song Wagon Wheel & see what you think! Hope you enjoy them too!
A friend of mine turned me on to this band a couple of years ago & they have become one of my favorite bands. They just get better & better. It's rare to find an album where you like EVERY song, & these guys do that every time record one. Can't wait to get an opportunity to see them live.
@Ravenwolf13073 I hear Ya' CSN's Deja Vu is one of my fav albums, starting to get into the avett brothers now. Some of thier compositions are great, non repetitive and dramatic! Well written music.
I actually really like it. I'm new to the Avett Brothers, and folk in general, but the cover really made me think. It's just very natural and real, like the music. :)
Are you aware that the cover (as well as the portraits inside the album cover) were painted by Scott Avett. He has a website for his artwork, scott avett.com. Check it out.
OH how I love TAB!!! My little boy and I dance to this song all the time. He is 6 yrs old and he loves them. He ask for me to put them on in the morning before school..The one part of the song is when we lock arms and go around in circles...Its freaking so great and I love to share my love of this band with the greatest thing in my life, my little boy!
I would just like to say that I was in love with the Avett Brothers before they were ever widely known. I commend them for getting famous without selling out. I love your sound and your words. They raise my vibrations and fill me with Love and Light. I cannot describe how much I love them. Thank you for being so downright AMAZING. And if I could meet you, I would die. And I am moving to North Carolina to Winston Salem(Peace) and my heart is in the Blue Ridge with you.
this song is great, but i miss the live version. There also used to be a live version of Salina as well, both recorded at Bonnaroo in June 2010, I really love those versions, anyone know where they went.
Shit man. I saw a live version of this on youtube, the Tiny Desk Concert and I could see how much they love music. It's good to hear groups that make music just for the love of music.
I just found this band today and have been on their website listening to everyone of their songs. They make some of the most sublime music I've ever herd, plus they're from North Carolina!
These guys are a breath of fresh air. Class always shines through and I'm glad that there are plenty of us guys and gals who appreciate real talent as opposed to the wannabies that reality tv throws at us....Keep the faith:-)
saw them just last night in athens, ohio. they opened with this song. just undeniably phenominal. the crowd was amazing. they put on a GREAT show. what an entertaining performance. cant say enough good about this band.
@TWet3726 Yes, that was probably one of the best shows I've been too. I'm very tempted to go to the show in Columbus in May. We're very fortunate to have such acoustics at memaud. Much higher energy than I expected.
I don't know if this is of interest but when Laundry Room was wrote, it was wrote on piano. Then when they started playing it live they swapped the piano for banjo fitting it in more with their more common live setup. Then later when they went to record the song (this was the 1st song they recorded for the I & L & Y album) they tried it first on banjo but didn't think it felt right, so went back to the original piano setup. Personally, I think each version serves it's specific purpose best.
you both took the words right out of my mouth. hopfefully the avett brothers havent shot themselves in the foot by releasing live versions before this studio version came out.
Well, for whatever it's worth, I was just introduced to this band two hours ago, and I'm mesmerized by these tracks on this album. Whatever it is they do live, I couldn't be hit harder than this shit is hitting me.
But whenever you take on new versions of songs you've already gotten used to in another form, you just have to push through it and keep listening. It's very rewarding to reach the point where both versions are accessible without anything jarring the spell.
@Bubdylan524 : if you like these guys, you have to see them live...it is an experience...just saw them last weekend in Myrtle Beach and they brought the House down...
@Bubdylan524 you summed it up perfectly... when I introduce my girlfriend to this band I will use your direct quote... they are truly amazing... lived by them for well over 2 years... and I'll continue... can't wait for another one of their concerts that is near me... best live performance you'll ever see with your own eyes... so much energy I can't wait... they are the best =)
I only discovered this band tonight but I think I would have to agree. I'm going to ask for tickets to a live show for Christmas... That's all I want.
Love this song so much! Can't wait till they come to Utah!
