Pointing out a few flaws doesn't mean universal healthcare never works. It is working in our country ( sure it needs finetuning, nothings perfect), and our economy is going great. If its a choice between yours where some have health care and ours in which everyone has good healthcare , I choose ours :)

Since then, frenetic attempts to ram the 1,000-page bill through Congress have all but collapsed, as more and more politicians on both sides of the aisle have balked. Obama has been forced to back off, even while reiterating that, without deadlines, nothing gets done in this town.

Because of private healthcare, the hippocratic oath, our judeo-christian values of life, patients and their doctors determine the value of the patients life- not the gov. When government decides to play God in order to determine the value of even one life all of humanity is devalued. I am a lawyer and I have read over sections of this bill many times to understand its import. When Obama says you can keep your current insurance if you like it, which is quite frankly, a lie. It says that if you have private insurance, you can keep it so long as NONE of the terms of the policy ever change. As soon as any term or condition changes, you can no longer have your insurance. And if you get your insurance from your employer, it is phased out after 5 years, or sooner.
I do not understand why many people give in to this eugenics nonsense. Have you actually tried to understand the bill? Or have you let the likes of Sarah Palin and such tell you what they want. In Australia we have government funded healthcare. Our economy is kicking arse at the moment. I personally am in private health care. But I dont mind paying extra in tax so that those less forunate than me are covered by something as well. Why? because I'm not SELFISH!

I find it interesting that you didnt comment on the possibility of rationing care to those who need it most. Refusing treatment with people with dementia or cerebral palsy and if you been paying attention to the news lately there was a government panel that recommended that women wait for breast cancer screenings until their forties or fifties.
So, that only ones allegeable for are compassion will be the young and able bodied. This is starting to sound creepily a lot like Eugenics.

Pointing out a few flaws doesn't mean universal healthcare never works. It is working in our country ( sure it needs finetuning, nothings perfect), and our economy is going great. Women have long used the slogan, my body, my choice. This should be the operating principle for ALL medical treatment decisions. Gov run healthcare especially the current bill being considered with health boards, IRS return verification in order to get care (pg 194,5 of bill) and rationing is contrary to personal choice, the patient knows best, a patients ability to advocate for themselves, individual self determination, and cutting edge outcomes, etc.

A few weeks ago, President Obama demanded that a national health care bill be on his desk before Congresss summer recess. Since then, frenetic attempts to ram the 1,000-page bill through Congress have all but collapsed, as more and more politicians on both sides of the aisle have balked. Obama has been forced to back off, even while reiterating that, without deadlines, nothing gets done in this town.

What the government could do first!
Regulate is to make regular. Wouldn't tort reform help? And Obama keeps talking about insurance companies! Medicare and Medicaid and cost of illegals in these? Why does Obama need it Universal to pass laws to fix the above problems? He doesn't. Most people believe that we need reform, but why rebuild a house when the kitchen needs remodeled. What about inflation with governement intervention? Been to college or flown into space recently?

Tort reform is the doctor's excuse. If some doctor screws up and ruins someone's life, do you seriously put a cap on how much that damage is worth?
The doctor can go on living their big lifestyle while their mistake can be forgotten as it would be easily paid off by the insurance company. If tort reform were to succeed, do you think that big health companies and insurance companies would stop there?
They would keep going until malpractice law is gone, for the sake of profiteering.

There is no contradiction in "the government cannot tell me what to do with MY body but it CAN prevent me from killing someone else's body."
Having said that, let me say that anyone who truly believes in the basic tenet of Roe v Wade (viz., personal autonomy) and further believes that this right to one's own body is so basic a right that it overrules any so-called "rights" of a fetus, would be an idiot (or, "Dumb as a dining table") if they willingly gave up that right in favor of ObamaCare.

As for the other, no one anywhere has the right to tell anyone what they can and cannot do with their own body. No one can FORCE a woman to bear children, nor FORCE a woman not to bear children. My body, my choice...period....

Ezekiel Emanuel was addressing a misinterpretation of doctors of the Hippocratic oath. The problem is doctors who end up being procedure peddlers interpret "do everything for the patient" as a license to rack up fees for unnecessary procedures.
The discussion of consideration of age was snipped out of an article dealing with the ethics of organ transplant. I.e. if there is one kidney how does one ethically decide who gets it. A legitimate question.

I didn't read that part but, I've read the first hundred pages. Hardly want to go over it twice though. It is sad that we want the government to run much of anything let alone heath care. Don't most people see that the common denominator of everything that is wrong with the US comes down to large government? We need to start having accountability.

I am a lawyer and I have read over sections of this bill many times to understand its import. When Obama says you can keep your current insurance if you like it, which is quite frankly, a lie. It says that if you have private insurance, you can keep it so long as NONE of the terms of the policy ever change. As soon as any term or condition changes, you can no longer have your insurance. And if you get your insurance from your employer, it is phased out after 5 years, or sooner.

Do some research into Obama's health care advisors and their backgrounds - quite an eye-opener. If you read the bill, you'll see that it is sufficiently vague or lacking specificity. THIS IS INTENTIONAL so that the bill can be interpreted and applied to give the bureaucrafts the most power and control over decisions affecting your health care - a mandatory govt program. More fascism!
