I thought it really funny you have asked people Not to copy your cakes im sure Karen Tack and Alan Richardson authors of " hello, cupcake" would love to see your sunflower cakes, They are exactly the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you can't even say you've put your own twist on them.
I am glad you said "Most" of your pieces came from you head because I own the Hello Cupcake book also and i saw at least three from there. Everything else was pretty good.

Thanks Megan. I can see where you continued to improve. Good Luck in your endeavors. I teach basic cake decorating to Girl Scouts in my area. You will be an inspiration to them.
i have the same book you copied ur ideas from. Nice try. like the gator, nutcracker, sunflower, etc was all from the same book. i wouldnt comment but i read what you wrote and just thot y u would tell people not to copy ur ideas but clearly they weren't. about ur sloppy frosting, word of advice the frosting from a can is to runny try making ur own it hold much better. you could make it stiff or as soft as you like. keep up the good work, but remember the truth always come out.
great cakes and just fyi dont tell us not to copy 'your' ideas becuase while some of them are some of them arent. Its kind of unfair, but you do have some awesome ideas. Try looking at some other videos to work on neatness with frosting
Nice work... the Japanese inspired for your mom is good and the sheep too... work on making your decorations smooth or Im not sure if it was intended.
You are mean. She has done a fantastic job. She is only 16 and she is doing work like that at her age. You should be ashamed of yourself. Sounds like you need to grow up!
You're good! Good luck on reaching your dreams! I really like the sunflower cupcakes there and the alligator/crocodile cake made out of many cupcakes. Cool!
You have a lot to learn, but are doing excellent for 16. I started making cakes very young as well, but it wasn't until I got older that I started really working on presentation. The drop flowers on the cupcakes are adorable and while easy, you did an excellent job on them. Keep up the good work and don't rull out gum paste or fondant. I'd also stop using candy on cupcakes, they are not needed.
Am so impatient for you to open your business.. you will be a great pastry CHEF and because you will be soo busy you your muscles will hurt this is why I suggest to get me free pastry and I will give you free massage.. is that bargain?Great job thank you very much for sharing your experience w/us.
you have a loooooong way to go. i don't think i would purchase any of those. i started when i was about 12 but i was doing stuff like that when i was in the 3rd grade. maybe you should look at a few more cake decorating tutorials and make a home made frosting rather than a store bought one. a little tacky but ur on the right path.
You shouldn't rule out fondant and gum paste. They can be great mediums to work in. And inedible supports like dowels are necessary if you want to make wedding cakes.
thanks for all the comments, i really take them seriously :) I am trying to put another one together of my more recent stuff which thankfully is better than this one.
And for the people who say everything is from hello cupcake: 3 came from it, 1 only using the general base and doing my own thing.
I really appreciate everyone giving me advice and helping me. I youtube other peoples videos and do the same thing and now people are doing it to mine :) Hope to post the other one soon!
all ideas had to be based on some other idea from somewhere else. dont worry about copying, its a form of flattery. love the cakes, practise makes perfect though, keep at it and youll get your dream :)
The only thing I would agree with Rosewink on is that you shouldn't worry about people copying your work. The pastry world has no copyright. I am more than happy to see people copy my work. I consider it a compliment. The best way to learn is to copy. From there, you can start experimenting and coming up with new ideas. Besides, the best way to become an authority on something is to share what you know.
I would like to say that Rosewink was really harsh! I am a nationally award winning cake decorator and possibly one of the best in the country. I saw your work, and for a 16 year old, I think you are doing great! Time and practice are what it takes. Keep working and you can go far. Don't let anyone get you down.
i love to bake as well. i am a perfectionist when it comes to details in bakeing. i love to do it. its my passion! youre truely talented. just remember talent is earned not given and youre very talented.
GREAT JOB!! I really liked the Tom Turkey you did! However, if you didn't want anyone to "copy" your ideas, WHY put it on youtube???? I mean, really? They could have stayed as photos in your portfolio; now Magnolia bakery can steal your designs since you're at least 4 years away from graduating from culinary school. Keep it away from the public if you don't want ideas stolen! But, good job, none the less and impressive work.
that is awesome! you need to give me some tips on decorating because i haven't figured out how to use a piping bag that well. not to mention I'd like to try my hand at baking too? what is a good rule of thumb?
you're asking us not to copy but seems like that's what you've done yourself! Still takes talent and you are so young...I would buy these from your bakery
I gave credit to the ones I copied. I just see from a viewers point that it sucks when you have a great idea and someone then takes it and takes credit. I'm just encouraging other people to come up with their own ideas. Sure if someone wants to make a turkey cake they can see mine and go "Oh I want to make that!" but why would they want to make a copy? I would encourage them to find new things to do with it, make it their own. Sure I can copy from a book too but I always put my own touch on it.
the christmas ornament yes, that was so long ago I forgot about that. Thank you for reminding me. The bunny cake was just random, I mean it is pretty simple you really don't need a picture in front of you. I've gone to places and have seen them so I knew how to cut and all that.
Follow your dreams Sweetie, you are doing great and I wish you all the best in time to come. You can have your shop if you just keep going. You have talent and you will only get better and better :-) Good Luck JX
wow.. in every pictures.. it seems as if your getting better and better!! huuuuggee effort! i watned to own a bakery shop too! lawl but im like 13 only. but when i grow up. anyways. i luve your style and baking skills. so talented. (I WONT COPY) :)
You sure are talented Megan. I'd love to see what you are capable of in a few years time. Keep up the good work. (I love the sunflowers and ladybirds best.) Bet they all taste good too .
i think that you are so creative and you just stop at using candies and frosting.. you should be using real culinary items like fondant and golddust... very creative... keep up the good work! kudos...
Hey Cutie, I'm a cake decorator, and won't use fondant. I think cakes should taste good, and have intricate designs. You're fabulous to put your work on Youtube. You might want to read books by Toba Garrett, or Kerry Vincent. Although they do fondant, they're master pipers.
Wow you have very talented ideas and all those cakes look delicious! I hope that all your dreams come true and I know it will because who else can come cup with better designs such as these. Great job!
Good job Megan! I think you're going to be fantastic at this. I can definitely see your piping skills improve throughout this video. Way to go! Keep practicing and never ever give up or let anyone get you down. You have a creative imagination, use it to your fullest advantage!
you have a bright future sweetheart keep it up follow your dreams and you'll see in about ten years we'll see and remember that name "BusyBeeBakery" .
You have imagination but frosting is sloppy, and if you plan on making it your going to have to use fondant on most cakes, my family is in the business and i promise you, more than 50% of the people want fondant Cakes are usually for special occasions and they dont want something that is sloppy, not to be mean just bein honest..It would REALLY help you alot! and if your going to school your goin 2 learn it anyways so go ahead and do it now & be ahead of every one else, get my point? ~Jess
oh yes i completely understand, I agree too. Its just im 17 and im really busy with school and trying to get a job so I can't always go out and make fondant. And the icing I like to use is an icing I make but some I just have to go get a can. But I completely understand what you are saying. Fondant gives it a fresh clean surface and when I become more experienced I plan on doing it a lot. Thank you for the helpful advice!
I am eleven and i have made the sunflower cupcakes before for mothers day this year and they turned out very well i just love baking with the flower tips don't u?
I can tell that you are very dedicated to baking. However, as for originality, I think it is courtesy to give the original creators credit, and maybe you can even let us know what kind of twists you've made to them. I think imitation is the greatest form of flattery, but I think credit is only fair since you preach to others not to copy ideas themselves.
um most of them are my creations that come from my head. The turkey came straight from my head, so did the first easter one, the christmas cake I used different decorations, the christmas 07 was all my idea, so did my sushi cupcakes, the valentines day cake, the spring cake, the graduation cake, biscotti, and marching band people were all my idea. The lamb cake was from wilton and the sunflower cupcakes and aligator one are from a book Hello Cupcake I just always put my own spin on them. Most of
what I make is original and from my own head so I dont owe to many people credit except for myself. The only other people to give credit to are Wilton and Hello Cupcake for only a handful of things in this video.
HiMegan! I rec'd an email saying you had left me a comment, but when I went to see it it was gone. Maybe I hit the wrong button? My daughter loves Nick and the cake was for her she didnt want to eat it either! lol
Not really (but i watch it all the time :D) I try to make as many of the things I bake as edible as possible. I'd rather use rice krispies than wood or starbursts and stuff rather than fondant. Like right now an idea popped into my head for a fall thing im going to and I want to make little pumpkins for it. Ace of cakes would probably use marzipan or fondant but I am going to use starbursts and stuff. A little harder to roll out but better tasting to me! Most of my ideas come from either my
