Hello, fellow abalone divers. We have a common enemy. The sunflower starfish. Every time, I dive in anywhere in california, I see many sunflower starfish, yes, light purple color the ones with 20 arms. They are eating abalone at an scary rate. I usually cut them up into tiny pieces. Please help, by cutting up these prediators of the abalone. Let's protect the abalone populations , so that there will be more abs for us in the future.
Those are nice for rock picking. Cant say they look very big. I do think it's awesome that you bring your kid into the cleaning and processing of your harvest.
@DevGau614 Easy access spot right along the road. They were 7.5 or so. Sadly, I used to get 9+'s at the same spot, but it got picked over - obviously partly by me! I'm taking my kids there in a couple days for the minus tide after school. Maybe we'll find a nice one.
I would have been surprised if you didn't get wet on the opener. Cracks me up that you prefer not to wear gloves. I like how you found time to play frisbee with your son, while pounding an ab.
That is good to know, I am in Montana right now but I think that I will be back in early May and am planning on doing alot of diving and backpacking in the summer. On the way to petrolia, I used to do alot of poke poleing around there. My dad and I bowhunt for deer near the mouth of the Mattole to because the season starts early in that Zone.

Cool stuff, this looks like a great way to spend some time exploring. So much life right there that we never see.
