The whole song is a free-association to begin with, so it's dumb to beat people over the head with the imagery like that. It's too literal and just gets off on its attempt to be quirky and weird without actually doing anything interesting with the song.

I'm sure that was basically the point; to make a quick, flashy advertisement for the band so it works on that level. The same way an obnoxiously retarded commercial might be selling a useful product. It's still a shitty fucking commercial
