Japan seems to be the most innovative of countries to do the things they think up unlike others who just place a concept and then forgets it, because they are far to frugal.
The only thing I can think of when I see these small cars is, how safe are they if you are involved in an accident. Don't get me wrong I love the idea and I can't wait till everyone is driving 100% electric cars. However they look like they'd be flattened by a mini cooper.
But what happens when strong side winds hit the small vehicle?
or
Let's say you are traveling 100 km/h in a small vehicle of 450 kilos and from the other direction a 40 tone truck is heading your way at the same speed. The vehicles meet at a combined speed of 200 km/h, will it stay on course?
i think the solution for transportation in a populated city is mass transit, subways, trains, buses for example NY which is around the 14th most populated city has the biggest mass transit in the world.75% of manhattan households do not own a car.i now see hybrid buses too
Outstanding video !! .. Very informative and thorough..
Clearly these 3&4 wheeled narrow cars/motercycles-scooters are the way to go for likely 90-95% travel needs of a typical person daily... while minimizing traffic, energy usage as well as Green living advantages ..
piaggio was the first to do 3 wheels i have 1 ..... ve3rry nice video but i think u gave piaggio little or no credit , also the first hybrid was piaggio not peugeot also piaggio is already in production ... but still nice job overall.
These 'single width' vehicles are all nice and lovely, but they'll still occupy one lane and one parking space in cities.
Also, people don't drive alone in 5 passenger cars to be obstinate, they do it for economics. That car has to cater to a huge (and unpredictable) variety of situations in its life, not just the daily commute.
The solution? One idea is "bike" lanes that only 'single width' cars and motorbikes can drive in. Similar to HOV lanes.
The vehicles that are open, like the BMW C3 probably won't find much adoption in US markets that are in regions where there is inclement weather, or where the temps drop below 50 deg. F - even though they have windshields and roofs, as a motorcycle rider myself, I can tell you that riding a motorcycle or any open vehicle in that kind of weather just isn't practical or desirable for more people.
So, to be adopted, the vehicle has to be enclosed.
Thank you for an amazing video presentation! It was informative. I own a motorcycle for summer driving and have a car for the winter driving in Canada. If these tilting narrow track vehicles could navigate the snowy winter roads I would buy one to replace my car. I liked that Yamaha concept Tesseract! It's very similar to the quadro4motion Looking forward to the future!
Very nice! Well thought out and professional presentation. The concept of car/MC is right down my alley as I am in the planning and parts gathering stage of building my own reverse trike. I am seriously considering making it tilt if I can do it right. The covered motorcycle will certainly extend the riding season. If done well, it should suffice for the whole years driving needs.
lol... I do. I live near a big city in europe and see it happen every day. I spend 25 min. on my daily trip on motorcycle, would be at least 45 min. driving a car. People underestimate the time wasted in trafic jams. I just don't get it why they keep on spilling so much time and don't seek out alternatives.
@AshtonPhoto The problem really is that all the folks can't live in downtown. Alternative is not to live in cities, but that again won't be feasible if you consider the livelihood. Having people living in far out places creates an infrastructure delivery problem as well. So, it is a no-win situation.
What is your driving/working/living condition? Not all of us live in the stick and work in the city. I live in surburb but I work in the stick 40 miles away. That is the best paying job around here. Either that or working in D.C. and that would be 2.5 hrs each day in shitty traffic. I don't sit in traffic, I cruise through it and there is absolutely no traffic jam.
@AshtonPhoto I agree,we really need to rethink about the type of vehicles we use to commute to the city, large cars with one person,is a waste of space and energy and your money.I say a enclosed self balancing motorcycle.
I've been saying for a long time that cars need to get narrower and passengers need to ride in tandem to accomplish that. One thing I've not figured out is what happens on a leaning vehicle when you need to countersteer in a slide, it would end up tilting the "wrong" way.
@505197 I am going to say that counter steering and other fun things that loosing traction when driving gives you, will be neatly removed by a state of the art vehicle stabilization system. Such will be the way forward in the vast majority of vehicles as it is already taken hold for some years now.
There are fewer than 1.000.000 cars in use on the planet right now? That's bullshit, too. There's more than 25,000,000 people in Texas alone!!!! And I would have to say that even a modest guess of car owners in Texas is way over 1,000,000. Even if that's somehow too generous, add in California, and New York, and everything in between....Less that 1,000,000 cars in use is simply stupid. And that's just in the U.S. Amazingly off-target! What morons.
That 385 cars per capita is bullshit. I'd like to see the source of these numbers, and I'm pretty sure this number doesn't account for population growth at all.
If you're in a normal car, would you let one of these pass by you, splitting lanes like a motorcycle? I don't think so. The only vehicle with that ability is the motorcycle. This is just another nice little car, «parked» in traffic congestion.
If they got rid of the crap electric motor and put in the deisel AUDI motor thats gets 300mpg and then they need to make it look less like an ugly toyota but thats just me. Some or even a lot of people may say the whole car is ingenious.
Its a very good video. But the final conclusion that mass transit is the solution with very small mobility vehicles for the last mile, being the long term solution, is incorrect. This is the short term solution. The medium term solution is to build narrow vehicles with narrow lanes, then the long term solution is to build Personal Rapod Transit from small, electronically controlled vehicles, with special (ultra light) trackways. Capacity can be increased by an order of magnitude (cheaply).
Great video. The only thing missing was whether governments would take some standard lanes and cut them in half so these 1/2 width vehicles could use them side by side.
Traffic flow controls need updating as well. Start/Stop cycles kill commuting speed and waste prodigious energy. Traffic circles must replace all stops. Cars need to be linked and controlled at slow speeds to enable high volume flow.
I enjoyed this report, although you missed including the Peraves monotracer. Just looking back at some of those photos of heavy congestion. The gaps between the cars are probably too small for many of the concepts shown. It's not just the narrow presents of a bike that makes it able to carve through traffic but also it's short wheelbase to be able to weave in tight radii.
This is an excellent comprehensive report backed up with a great video.
But isn't it a great shame that most companies cater to people's ego's and sense of status by manufacturing huge boxes with too much power at the expense of mass production of narrow drive vehicles as featured in this report? Would you believe that a 100cc scooter will cost you close to $5,000 in Australia and am pretty doubtful that anything like the roofed 3 wheeler 150cc could be had for less than $6000. Robbery!
"Converge" this developing market with a convertible "option" of easy to apply, Snap-On (TM) snowmobile tracs that consumers may purchase for regions with enough snow to monetarily qualify the option purchase.
Meraviglioso pensare di girare con questi mezzi!!! Fantastico veramente. ! ! !
This video is cool & all, but I was more alarmed by the population statistics. I just don't see how they can be sustainable. You have countries doubling, tripling, & even quadrupling their populations, while some of those very same countries can barely feed themselves NOW. I don't think this planet can sustain 10-15-20 billion people. Will it ever max out? Or will there be 1 trillion people in the year 2150?

This viedo is nearly two years old. Strange that we don't seem to hear that much more about the release of some of these vehicles.
What we are seeing is cheaper conventional vehicles, and fossil fuels still not really very expensive.
I live in Bangkok, and I believe that cars and the fossil fuels to power them should be at least doubled in price.
What is happening is that we are seeing the road ahead go over a cliff, and all we are doing is hitting the accelerator!
