"Fuck people who say i'm a 'frontman'. i'm not. The music and atmosphere should be the focus. the experience of it all, not me." - maynard. I disagree in part because he is the voice of the group and also anchors the emotion of each song. During his Aenima days I think all aspects of the musical and live feel for Tool were at their peak.
julz1278...that can be the message of the song if u want it to, no one is right on wat the songs message because everyone gets a different message, the band delivers their own but its the listeners brain that perceives it
I bought these tickets for my husband's 20th birthday...his borthday is actually September 8th, lol. We were a little lower, and dead center with the side of the stage. We were right under the speakers so we were SO deaf after the show, lol.
Although bloodyderek is correct about the message can be different for the person, as the message how Tool wrote the song is about hypocrisy. In this aspect, and from the way Tool wrote the song, you are correct julz1278
@julz1278 Sorry this is coming so so so so incredibly late, but the meaning of this song is not about getting high. In the song, he is asking a fictious person if they are high as if to ridicule that person for being so stupid for not understanding.
@julz1278 but the "high" I'm assuming of what you meant by subtext? Although I would never say that this song refers to being high in the way you did, because it sends the wrong message. Most poeple would have focused on the things you said in the beginning, not the little part at the end "subtext." The words "you must have been high" are only to emphasize the main part and meaning of the song.
I was at this same show in the same angle/spot as the camera man pointing the camera. This makes me feel like I was actually back there while it was happening again. Maynard got fucking pissed and actually stopped singing cuz he was getting a lot of people taking pictures thats why he is pretty much not even facing the audience. Thats why Maynard can say what he wants to even if hes not serious.
Crazy. I was in a skybox at the same show. I got soo f'd up that a train almost ran me over that night. Great show and the skybox was free!!!! Free booze. no 420 though.
put it in your kids poket or tape it to ur inner leg
or your kids inner leg if you got a young teenw ith you they never ever check me at concerts and im 15...Metallica Offspring and Tool and they havent patted em down once
how'd you get your camera in? I'm seeing linkin park live at the staples center and it says no cameras allowed on the ticket. I BADLY WANNA RECORD THE CONCERT!
no shit tey pat you down i wen tot see tool and they almost took away my studded belt cuz " it might hurt someone" im like "...its eaiter you let me keep my belt or this whole crowed with be seeing my double O and L and the T .. well i wontt go tehre buddy "
they film all their shows, but i dunno how people get home recordings, but in the uk you can record shows i've only been told no cameras at tool and prince, but there's always a way to beat the system
yes, romantabass thats correct. but tool is different, thats what they want. of course if they really wanted to make the greatest live show on earth they would have the stuff to do it. but instead I think they just want their audience to listen and enjoy the atmosphere...
Tool is a great band, let me say that first of all. But the stage show is kinda weak, the laser lights do a lot for a band but the movement of that band under the lights is what makes a good show great.
yeah he always hides. its his thing, maybe he has his reasons, like morrison used to keep his back to the audience in his early days, people will always talk about maynard hiding till the end!He truly just wants the music heard part of it!you dont see them in there videos, usualy just animation ,and discusting stuff in there videos, you could be like kiss and have ok songs and good gimmick, or you could just be the best songwriters and band of all time!
Yes, it's good that he hides. Too many people focus on the singer during live gigs, the other guys should get at least as much attention (especially Danny).
yeh Maynard has to stop hiding, last year when he played at Big Day Out here in oz he was singing behind a big silouhette screen, he only came out from behind it once, and that was by accident.
I like Tool and I think that the Staples Center is tight. When this concert took place back then, I wasn't into Tool yet. If I was, I would've begged my mom to take me to that show.
Give the kid a break! I remember when I was 15 begging my mom to let me go see U2 @ the Colesium in Downtown LA. My friend could drive and my mom finally gave in. Wooo Whoo!
i was at this show..fuckin amazing and i was sober..the stage was unreal and the visual effects on the score board were just ridiculous..most amazing show i've ever seen by far
dude i must have smoked atleast 5 fat ass joints at the san antonio show never got busted it was an awesome show i had awesome seats as well adam jones looked at me a couple times almost made my heart stop dude
I saw them play Wings For Marie and 10,000 days in Columbus and I didn't think it was that good. I was very upset at the way Danny played those songs as well as Rosetta Stoned. Don't get me wrong. Tool is my fav. band.
The stage didn't start lighting up until after this song. I guess they mix up the set list etc... Check out the portion of Schism I loaded that has some of the stage effects.

i think you would have to inhale some helium to even sing this song half good... then again the song itself is about being high :O
DongleKumquat 3 years ago
It's not about being high, It's called a metaphor.
IMO the song is about hypocrisy, Hence the "...my black kettle" from the saying, the pot called the kettle black.
then again, Maybe I'm looking to far into it... awesome song. :)

You've got to sneak them it. It's hard, since they literally pat you down at the door, but apparently doable, since there's all these bootleg videos.
