I hated that the Dutch fans used those stupid horns, it made it seem like a low class soccer audience. That horn has no place in gymnastics. I hope that person who was pushing that horn got carpel tunnel syndrome
@MrJST94 I was at the 1996 Olympics, the crowd was very hyped for the US team, they were loud also because the arena held a lot more than usual arenas, plus the girls were doing so well, so the crowd got very very loud. At the LA olympics the US crowd also applauded the other countries, but not so much this time,,,,,wonder why
what i love about this FX is the detail in her choreo, the head is moving all the time. she is not just keeping it straight forward and the rest of the body is choreographed around it. everything is involved. i miss that in today's FX. cool to see it from a different angle as well :)
Incredible; full of virtuosity, grace, exquisite form and unbelievable tumbling. That floor did look very unforgiving too. She was such aa beautiful gymnast in every way; her star shone all too briefly; injury and subsequent knee surgery meant that in the 1988 Olympics she had to "water down" her routines:( We are seeing her at her apex here; thank God for these videos:)
I personally thought the pike full-in she did in the AA had cleaner form than her tuck full-in here (legs could've been tighter). But man, I wish she could've been healthy in 88 because it would've made the AA race more interesting.
thanks for posting this. it's great to see one of my all-time favorite fx routines from a different angle. you can really see how airborne she got on her tumbling. the vid also makes you (well me) feel like i was actually there to see it live :)

@metsdudenj
I come from The Netherlands and i agree..... we weren't as bad as the Brazilians or the crowd of the 1996 Olympics but this is also bad......
In Rotterdam 2010 we made up for it ;)

I never get bored of Aurelia. She's just gorgeous. And I like this commentator-less footage.

couldn't she have gotten her feet together for the landing of her first pass, shouldn't that have been a deduction?...
gymshiv 3 years ago
This was the 80's, it only mattered if you landed the passes basically.
