  • The EWI does work well in smalll combos..check out Bernie Kenerson and others,..you just have to work with it..

  • You make it sound awesome!

  • I have loved this ever since I heard Sonny Criss play it. This is a fabulous version!

  • How does the internal sax and brass sounds in the EWI compare to fx. Arturia Brass 2?

  • Hey man, I wanna learn playing the sax. Would you recommend me starting out with this? I'm also a fairly advanced sound mixer and start drooling whenever I see an electric instrument due to the convenience of recording. So that aspect of the EWI has me kind of biased towards a decision on what to get. But in just the terms of learning the sax, do you have any input on what I should lean towards?

  • If you want to learn the sax, you need to get a sax because the EWI will not help you get a nice tone on sax. The mouthpiece is totally different. If you just want to play EWI, you can do that without playing sax, but if you want to play saxophone and are concerned with getting a nice tone, you need to practice sax and work on embochure.

  • Well, I've seen a lot of EWI videos and it seams to be nothing more but just an alternate MIDI controller. I though that it will be something, giving a lot more "real feel" of the woodwind instrument but, to be honest, I can reproduce a lot more realistic trumpet track using Kontakt and MIDI keyboard or my MIDI guitar. Can you control the VST instruments with EWI? Have you ever tried that? Because AKAI's souds are... well rubbish.

  • @ortonnorth Yeah the sound that come with the EWI are not realistic at all. I think it was mainly developed for fusion bands, electronica. Doesn't fit well with a small combo group playing standards.

  • @gzydek they come with software that you can hook the EWI up too your computer via USB and play with the tones and sounds. there is a wide server that people can create and post sounds for download. A lot more realistic noises because evidently people are having the same problem; the sounds aren't realistic. so they created versions that sound tons better

  • hi all. can i changed the internal sounds from my ewi 4000s ? where can i found some sounds like: flute, panflute, oboe, clarinets, altosax, sopranosax, reed. I want to delete all internal sounds and insert these 7 or 8 sounds. For me is enough. thx.

  • this sounds cool man....

  • gzydek .... is that an internal patch or were you using a synth/module? by the way...... sweet dude!

  • Very, very good!

I have just got an ewi4000 but have trouble getting rid of air overflow compared with playing the clarinet.

    Any recommenadations for a beginner?

  • It took me a while to get used to the EWI. It is quite different from sax and clarinet. Just keep practicing. After about a week of playing it, I finally became more comfortable with the airflow differences. It is a totally different animal compared to a traditional woodwind instrument. The more you play the easier it will come.

  • I agree. It takes a while to get used to. EWI is so fun though. Honestly, what can't you do with that thing?

  • Very very good.

I have just got an ewi4000s but have trouble with air overflow compared with playing the clarinet. Any recommendations?

  • Great!!Excellence!!

  • Gerry - great adaptation of this classic to the ewi. What program is that (01 from patchman upgrade?)

    Tony

  • you impress me dud

    eee weeeee!

    hahahhahha

  • How do you pronounce this instrument's name? Is it pronounced "Eh-vi" or "Yu-wi"?

  • EEEE WEEEE

  • what is this instroment

    hey you know honey baby

when you did it on the uklele

i have one and i did through the song with you

    ^__^

  • Sounds great!

  • This song kind of reminds me of Three Views Of A Secret

  • impressive

  • Gerry, nice work, are these any good for practicing? sometimes I just want to work on scales and stuff quietly and when my chops are tired, will any work spent on this be transferrable to the alto, or is it very different??

  • The EEI is very useful for practice as far as fingering and such is concerned, but no so good if you need to practise tone and embrochure control. The fingering is completely reprogrammable, so it can be played like a sax, clarinet, flute, recorder... even a trumpet! (although I've never tried that).

  • its not meant for practice, its a full fledged electronic wind instrument

  • nice.

  • Which internal EWI Sound is it? Can you reply?

  • Great playing Gerry! loved every second. You always bring out the true beauty in any tune. From a technical point of veiw however I think you should concentrate on keeping your fingers as close to the keys as possibe - watch yourself in a mirror whilst playing.

  • Actually Conn6m. Since the E.W.I's are touch sensitive, you can't let your fingers linger around the keys, otherwise it will think you're trying to play a different note to the one you're thinking of.

  • Thanks for that Jazzmaster. I learn somthing new on you tube every day. I feel a bit embarrassed about giving Gerry technical criticism. Hes been playing longer than me! Still, its all in good fun and I've learned something myself.

  • Great job on a classic tune, Gerry. One of my all time favs

If you like it check ou my YT site for a classic guitar version by Jean harkness

    gw Toronto Canada

  • I bought mine with a sounbank at patchmanmusic

Also bought the Yamaha VL-70 with a chip, and that one is awsome. The voices generated out of that box realy rocks!

  • that's sweet, i play the sax :) 7 years now

I mihgt buy one of those...thingies

  • about how much does one of those cost

  • You should pay around $699 or so.

  • It's an internal ewi sound.

  • hi sounds great. what sound source are you using? is it an ewi internal sound or from a module?

    thanks

  • AUSOME Instument. Great Job. Is that kinda like a saprano saxophone?

  • The fingerings are pretty much the same, but it's like learning a whole separate instrument. When I first got the horn, I sounded like a kid in elementary school. It takes some time to learn all the nuances of the horn. It is touch sensitive, so there are no moving keys. Just electrical contact via your fingers. It's a lot of fun to play.

  • That is so ausome. Im still trying to find a good tenor saxophone to buy though.lol.

  • What instermint are you playing? ive never sceen that befor?

  • It's an AKAI EWI4000s, electronic wind synthesizer.
