@wheetman is correct. What a performance, this is magic. Shawn is coming to Nashville TODAY to start recording a new album with Buddy Miller ... such good news to all of us who sit and scratch our heads wondering why this woman is not a superstar. Instead, we're stuck with Gaga, Gag, being the operative letters.
Stuart Smith also played on Rosanne Cash's "The Wheel>R.C. is married to John Levanthal who co-wrote with Shawn on many songs. S.S. made the wheel amazing.
This one and "Shotgun Down The Avalanche" on her first album made me an instant Shawn Colvin fan. She's just raw talent on the hoof. Great live version here.
Most times the movie is not as good as the book. The live version not as good as the original. This is the exception. Far more compelling and energetic live.
I still get chills when I watch this video. I have seen Shawn sing this live many times, but this ensemble just blows me away! One of my favorite songs ever!
In 1993, I had never heard of Shawn Colvin, and a friend took me to see her perform at the Terrace Theater in Austin. She completely blew me away. I went out the next day and bought both the albums she had out then, and I have loved her ever since -- every album, and almost every song. There's probably no other artist I can say that about. Her work has been so consistently good. Thanks, Shawn, for all the wonderful music -- a wonderful gift...
What is so great is seeing the looks on the faces of all three musicians which confirms that they realise something special is happening in that moment. Thanks so much for putting this up. BTW, I can see where she's got the capo but does anyone know what tuning Shawn is using here?
Hey thx for coming back to me, but being a bear of very little brain I need some help with your response - do you mean lower E drops to D? Or the whole key drops to D - sorry to be dumb - please can you spell out what each string is tuned to. Best, CharlieboyofBeech
This song deserves every plaudit. As a description of the lost innocence of childhood it has no equal that I've heard. I discovered Shawn Colvin from hearing a London DJ playing the single of "Another round of blues co-written with Larry Klein. Finding the single some two or three years later and discovered Steuart Smith's stunning guitar playing on other tracks and was hooked. As wonderful as her subsequent work has been, the sheer exuberance of this performance puts it in a class of its own.
I can't stop watching this!! I still get goosebumps. What great chemistry. My favorite music video by far. I love Jennifer Knapp, but this is out of the ball park.
I've watched hundreds of live performances on YouTube and this is easily in my top 10. Shawn's voice, hands, and mind are touched by God, and what a great arrangement and choice for musicians! Is that Larry Klein on bass? Who is that magician on electric guitar? This performance is a perfect musical storm.
Yes, that's Larry on bass. The magician is Steuart Smith, who worked on the Eagles last album, and has been in their touring band a for a while now. Shawn has said this was her favorite performing lineup. Check out her DVD, which contains this version, and many other great videos.
I have been watching this over and over again. Diamond is a great song and this is the most energized version of it I have ever heard. How lucky those people were to be there to see and hear it live.
OMG, this is from that show Sessions at West 54th street from PBS. I snuck off from work in the city to be in the audience to see this when I won tickets, ahh, it was so much fun!
Awesome song my favorite, I agree with cristysoh, plus the last minute of the song is some fantastic pickin'

You may like Jennifer Knapp but she did not write this. The best is always the author.

The guitar player looks a lot like the guy who plays with the Eagles now that Felder isn't with that band.
