  • Please take off the muuuuuuuuusic.

  • "Teach a man to reason and he will think for a lifetime" - Phil Plait

  • i hate the way he talks AND the things he says

  • I think I'm in love with his diction. If only all Canadians spoke like that.

  • life of pi. amazing book , with all it's hidden meanings.

  • "I didn't really choose writing, I think writing chose me."

    CLICHÉ.

  • @mushroomthesecond77

but if you actually talk to writing you'll notice most of them feel that way

  • True words from an amazing author.

  • Life of Pi is one of my favourite books! Love it

  • a very interesting author, with honest oppinions and a great.greaaat story to tell in ''Life of Pi'' !Chapeau!

  • He's got the same voice life as Luna Lovegood

  • hes cutee

  • He seems like a really interessting guy. I should read his books.

  • @superman000000

You, may I say, are an idiot.

  • @superman000000 Stephen Harper's the idiot.

  • He's a cool guy.

  • Wow I really like Yann martel book! Come check out mine if you are interested also!

  • Wy the musik?

It sound lik a 70´s porno

  • definitely one of the people in my life that i have to shake hands with... if at all possible.. he's brilliant in my mind

  • great video, i love hearing the author's story and opinion about a book. but take out the music in the background...

  • i think his point of view is amazing! and i loved the book

  • you guys are fucking haters (you know who you are!) this guy is very inspirational. i know what he's talking about! " a work of a life time is to figure out what your story is; [of your self, family, country...] and ultimately your universe[!]" those last words are very strong.

  • @superman000000 wow, too bad he's not idiot.

  • Haha why did he have to write that book. Im rerading it for my english class and everytime i read i fall asleep.

  • chemical? organic? stfu yann. Great book though.

  • why did he choose india as the setting of the novel?

  • Pi was a real person from India. He just wrote his story.

  • No Pi never existed he made the whole thing up, wiki it.

  • Haha I know. That was sarcasm.

  • The multi-cultural and variety of both animals and religion in the country. Perhaps the spices of the Indian food as well and richness of the people. I think that's mainly what the first part of the story is trying to say about India.

Pi's apartment is kind of like India with the rich spices and cluttered surroundings, but in a meaningful way.

  • Nice interview!

  • 2:25

  • whats a man hooker prize isn't it man booker prize

  • you have to be reasonable to appreciate the fantastic and to be fantastic to appreciate reason

  • ya..I think it is better to cut off the first part. It is totally unrelated!

  • great book, love his way of thnking, a great book to read very captivating

  • does anybody know what yann's first published book was?

  • His first book he published was "The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios" in 1993.

  • cool. have you read it? i haven't.

  • I've read it, it's like my favorite book ever. It's actually a collection of short stories.

  • i saw the book in a booksale, where they sell books at like 200 pesos (that's like 4 US dollars only).....but i didn't buy it...because i have qualms....i believe if an author has published a worldwide hit of a book., it doesn't mean that all his books are that good. haven't read it tho.

  • love the book. I love all possibilities it leaves you with. Especially that of Richard Parker being Pi's animalistic, survivor instinct

  • what a ******* boring book

I hate reading and having to read this for my English class didn't make it any better

  • i didnt mean to be rude or anything,............i just couldnt really relate to that much.and i got boring.............but yann is still a good writer but...........it just not my type of book

  • I just finished the book and found myself wanting more to read, meaning...that I loved the book!

  • i thnk the bigining is so boring.........part to is ok though .......it took me a long time to get there

  • yea i know exactly what you mean

  • i pewrsonally think the book is unrealistic..but i believe the ending with the animals rather than the human ending

  • If you get the audiobook then it is amazing

  • the Author is great as to show me the awe of the ocean

Also I saw the real solitude of the human.

I think he is a great humanist not much religious!

  • i love the book!

  • Love the Book, Man! Just got done reading it @ 5:30 10/17/08

  • This book is fantastic. How dare you say that there is too many details! That's part of the whole Indian storytelling experience!

  • i didnt really like the book, it had way too many details. but i had to read it for a school assignement. ugh!

  • this was a pretty good book xD reading it for HS now lol

  • I think he confuses "reasonable" with "imaginationless".

He says "Be less reasonable!" then goes on to explain his very reasonable techniques for writing good stories. Obviously the guy is too religious.

    I liked the book though.

  • tell me.. why does explaining about the inevitabilities in book writing contradict ones belief in "be less reasonable". and where's the obviousness on "too religious" in that? You've got me but... now I'm confuses at your expense! :)

  • "Reasonable" does not mean chasing profits or power. It means thinking about what you do, and that is what he did as he learned how to write better.

Okay maybe he isn't "obviously too religious".. It just irked me that the book started with "This story will make you believe in God", while it's just a very imaginative story. And afterall, religion is all about not being reasonable.

  • good book

  • awsome book

  • It`s a dreadful book- smug and self-important and preachy.

What`s worse, however, is that it is extremely boring.

  • yet you read it? hmm

  • yes, alas. I had to. It was a gift.

  • it is a little preachy..

  • LIfe of pi is good =)
