Sam Cooke's appearance on the first Shindig show is made all the more poignant by the fact that less than three months later he would be shot to death in an L.A. motel under still unexplained circumstances. One of the all-time great voices, he is still greatly missed.
Donna Loren-what a powerhouse she was. From a petite, pretty, poised young lady comes that wall-shaking powerful voice! Waht a great version of Dusty Sprinfield's hit- the house band, as always is right in the pocket musically.
Donna released a country version of this song as a single in 1984, a tad overproduced but still good. Too bad that she didn't keep at it, she had a great and versatile voice - too versatile perhaps, since she never found her niche. But she's happy doing fashion design by all accounts, can't blame her for leaving the music industry grind.
