I can think of a couple that might please you, LauraD. Baccarolle from Tales of Hoffman; the duet from the opera Norma are two that come to mind quickly.
I love Lakme. Unfortunately it's hardly ever performed, maybe because it's an extremely demanding role for the coloratura. As good as Sutherland was, she wasn't able to handle the vocal gymnastics of the Bell Song... in fact, the only two sopranos I've ever heard who have sung it properly are Lily Pons and Katherine Grayson.
@Porolepis: Try Mado Robin's version, it's on youtube. I also have a very good version by Mady Mesple. There seems to have been a particular French coloratura style that suited Lakme.
Beeautiful... simply beautiful... Not only can you hear each voice but they blend so well.. Katherine below and Dame Kiri sailing along on the top line... Sheer bliss... :0)x
I have another version of flower Lakeme, it sounded like it was techno. I have been looking for it. Can someone please tell me how I can it? I really love this song a lot!
I'm not entirely sure what all the other comments are going on about... Nonsense about snobbishness and whatnot... But anyway
I truly think that this is a beautiful piece, and whilst I am the first to admit that I am not a huge fan of opera (to me, Gilbert & Sullivan do not count as they're technically operettas) but I am in love with this piece, and both singers do it wonderful justice.
I would give anything to be able to sing like this
A very brave choice for Katherine. Te Kanawa's voice is much less closely recorded and yet sounds more vibrant and colourful. There is of course also thirty years' difference in age.
Yep kinda agree with you there, but I actually like their combination of voice together. Neither one is competing with the other iykwim, the resonance in both their voices seems to blend well. Could listen to this duet over and over......
Wow, I heared exactly this version before and I liked it best because of the sound of the orchestra and the voice! I was a bit shocked when I found out it's by Katherine J. because I usually dislike her. But I'm not quite shure: Does she sing both voices or are there 2 singers?
Bravo ! Magnificent ! Of course that is only the opinion of someone who has taste and appreciates art and music worth experiencing. There will always be "those other sorts" whose youth and inexperience prevents their having any refined taste for anything exquisite, including beautiful older women. Nature's wisdom is a marvel.
Unfortunately the Jenkins web site said that Katherine sang with Kiri, as she felt sorry for the old lady. I find this attitude from the Jenkins people quite arrogant. Katherine is probably much more famous, but that doesn't make her better.
Wow, that's really obnoxious of her, I've never even heard of this Katherine Jenkins, Kiri te Kanawa is the one of the worlds greatest singers of the 20th century, Jenkins should feel extremely blessed to get to sing with such a legend.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That is horribly obnoxious of the Jenkins camp as anyone who knows anything about voice knows that Jenkins is only as fortunate as she is because of her looks, not because of her voice, which is amateur at best. And she'll be old one day too. When she loses her looks then where will she be? Kiri Te Kanawa will always be a great diva!
Why are so many folks with a musical education such despicably arrogant snobs? WE (i.e. thousands of people who are not you) happen to enjoy the song very much.
Opera on YT even has its own troll, who won't leave any non-Italian Opera pages unvandalised.
Perhaps it is like motor cars. I have a complete love affair with my 20 year old Toyota Corolla. Never broken down, reliable, love her more than some family members, but others criticise her mercilessly.
The snobs will do what boring people always do - crap on -, you and I can sit back and take in all the beauty of this performance.
You can't really argue what you don't know anything about, can you? Do you even know which part your beloved Katherine is singing? I understand that to the masses she sounds great. Ignorance is bliss!
And you're going to tell me, I suppose, that it was not arrogant of Katherine to sing with "the old lady" simply because she "felt sorry for her"?
Everytime i hear this song, i feel like i'm in a meadow, on the mountains or on a cruise that never ends & i'm breathing in the cool air & watching the landscapes and i'm so happy.

This is beautiful, but what does "featuring" mean? Did they sing together, or did Katherine sing to a reecording of Kiri - or vice versa?

The difference between Jenkins and Te Kanawa is that Jenkins doesn't use the correct technique of lowered larynx and open throat technique.
