there's really nothing bad about working on your basic technique, such as, the pinky, and the wrist, which both evidentially take a long time to perfect, but billy sheehan did once say that spending too much time on your technique is pointless, just do your own thing, wether it be write or learn songs, and that is where you actually develop your technique.

@csmorgan Dude, chill. A noise gate doesn't stop string noise, it stops amp feedback. You can have a noise gate and STILL be the sloppiest player ever. The scrunchy helps mute un-wanted string noise. Loads of bands use it. Mostly for technical guitar playing involving tapping etc. I understand you think it is cheating, which is what you have implied, but really it's merely an attempt to make sure they sound their best. I'm not too much of a hardass to worry about it, I want them to sound good.

@Quala8ear Yup. It makes soloing easier and sound cleaner in a sense. You can do it with anything it makes it so when you accidentally hit an open string it dulls and quites it. Make sure you apply enough pressure to the strings to dull it but not too much that it acts like a capo.

There is a video of Marty Friendman of Megadeth explaining somewhere on the tube. It's a cool technique. Check it out. He can explain it way better then I can.
