It's not just Americanized though, it's modernized. You've named exactly why DBZ fans hate it, but being live action, it can't take the same risks as an anime. That's why in all honesty DBZ can and will never be captured well in Live Action. I hope that one day they do a CG Movie, styled much like FF Advent Children for example. That is as close to real as Dragonball can get and still be Dragonball.
