College degrees tend to teach people to think "inside the box." Any thoughts that deviate from your professor's result in poor grades ensuring a set of graduates that all think the same.
Have you ever noticed the real pioneers do NOT have degrees?? We need more independent thinkers who aren't taught to stay within the limits.
Dr. Z, I gave the board to my boss today. He saw no visible damage on it and concluded that it is probably the relay, and because he was in electronics for ten years, assured me he can and will be replacing the relay on the board. He said it like it was easy as changing a run capacitor or something. The solder gun has a vaccum on it, and pulls up the solder, when melted. Then the relay just falls out, and he puts the replacement relay in and solders it. Whala, good as new! We'll see
Dr. Z, I have 240V at L1 & L2, On the IIC board. When I put my leads on L2 and the Heat terminal for the blower motor, I have 16V (should be 240?), then, after 30 secs. blower relay clicks, then 21V momentarily, then back to 16V.
@blissJesus1 You could have a bad relay to the blower motor or if the blower relay is integrated with the board you'll need to replace the entire board.
Hey Dr. Z, I enjoyed the video link. I have been educated in the problems we face as a nation, since about 2007, when I got the internet. Infowars.com, the Birch Society, etc.. I have done some small things to try to off-set the inevitable. On another subject: Goodman package unit; 240V into the main board. 16V @ L2 & Heat. Click goes the blower relay, 21V, then back to 16V. VCM blower, on a PGJ036075-1B. Is the board bad or just something going wrong somewhere else? Thank You, Dr. Z
@blissJesus1 Is the line voltage 240V or 208V? If you have 208V and if the control transformer is set up on the 240V tap then you could be getting 21V instead of 24V.
Another possibility is that a bad control board could be the problem, especially if the control transformer is integrated into the board.
Another possibility is that you could have a loose control wire connection somewhere.
Great! I am earning my (two year) degree in Heating, Air conditioning, and Refrigeration Technologies at the local Community College. And I don't even have a BBQ. What am I gonna do with mine?
@iamtherealmred Actually, you're going into a positive career where you will have a chance at getting a job in your field of study. I don't know very many techs out there that don't have a two year degree in HVACR. It's a degree that's very respected by employers.
The problem with a liberal arts degree is that you just can't get a liberal arts degree only. You always have to pair it with a grad or post grad degree or go to a professional school direction ( law, dental, etc.) I'm going into HVAC now but have plans to finish my Economics degree and get an MBA and work on the other side of HVAC. in the future. Just can't see a world that won't like heat or A.C. in the future.
@DJAlisterCrane It's cool that you're interested in working in the HVACR trade in management. Something tells me that you'd do better off learning the management end of the trade by interning through someone that is a manager.
The G.I. bill paid for my education many years ago. If I wanted to get a masters degree I'd have to pay for it on my own. That just didn't make economical sense to me.
College would be much more worthwhile if they eliminated all of the useless classes they make you take to get a degree. I would like to know that my doctor spent most of his college time studying things like anatomy and physiology, chemistry, and pharmacology; not useless crap like speech, literature and history. Before you have a surgery, make sure you ask your doctor what percentage of his credit hours were devoted to medical classes. You don't need a doctor who can recite Shakespeare.
@SaintWilliamIII The core courses to get just about any degree have little to do with your degree. I have no idea why they require this shit. Then again, any degree that has no demand in the working sector shouldn't even be funded through student loans.
ah but there are those out there that can not even change the tire on their car or check the oil I think we should go back to the basics like when we were in shop class at least the kids would have an idea whats going on
nice vid dr, degrees for some can work depending the field even now with technical completion like certified welder , and hvac tech like i have is not bad but watch that back, if you hurt it bad enough to be taken out of those trades your back to nothing trust me i know ,,,everyone have a great new year and a safe one god bless .
@MrGarcon98 you and me did it at the same age mine is from george t baker aviation school in miami and i worked with millwrights in industrial conveyors systems is where i took interest in controls and that led to hvac,
@hpaddyh I completely agree that knowledge is power. But if you have to go into a lifetime of debt to gain the knowledge it deteriorates the advantage. On top of that, if you can't find a job in you field of study then you're really screwed. Please check out the video that's in my description.
I watched most of the video, but was running out of time before dinner. I saved it in my watch later. That poor woman dentist. My son owes about 60,000 in college loans.
I didn't hear Q. For people who are not willing to look it up it is Quebec. And i agree with you a trade is much more employable than college degrees that doesn't have a real world application like Liberal Arts, Interpretive dance and the Klingon Language.
@sockmess Thanks for catching that for me. I redid that part of the video because I forgot xray on the first take. I guess that I'll never have a perfect video. Oh-well.
@DrZarkloff there are also a lot guys who finish trade school and cant get a job because of no experience just like there are college graduates who cant find work- education in general is a conspiracy rather than college
I have always maintained the more that you know not just in one feild but all the better chance you have to stay working there are a lot of college grads workiing at mcdonalds because all the learned was on the paper hanging on the wall
@TheFred1952 I have experience working in many fields. I could easily go to work as a plumber, electrician, finish and construction carpenter and of course HVACR tech.
