And to further "critique", the umpiring in this video is horrible. In MiLB you need to have an aura of authority. Normally, hands on hips looking confident is a good one. She looks like she is throwing a tantrum. She never looks confident. Her partner comes up and never gets between the coach and her, and then at about 48 seconds he's walking away while the coach decides to charge her and then second base. Piss poor umpiring here.
To insure objectivity, there is about two minutes of 'discussion' before the video starts - I didn't want the vid to be too long, and there wasn't much to see. This was Brady's second discussion. Where the vid cuts represents a gap of about ten seconds.
The call wasn't horrible, just close. I assumed she walked away from Brady to attempt to defuse the situation. I think you are right, the plate ump should have been there to cover his partner.
She should walk away, that's fine. But it's her whole posture throughout the entire situation. She needs to, "look the part". She needs to look confident, like, "this is MY field. I made that call and I got it right!" She instead looks like she's uncomfortable out there. Again, I'm not critiquing her call, but her mechanics.
@kmcnelly sooooooooooo,... you are judging the Umpires for the dumass actions of the manager. The plate umpire did go out and try to get between notice how the manager kept moving, it's hard to rodeo clown a manger who himself is acting like a clown. BTW,.The situation was actually typical of a Manager trying to modivate his team. BTW In this league, it was common to have dumass plays cause dumass crowd incited displays. No Wonder this League No Longer exsists. lmao
this lady really does have some issues. one inning she'll call strikes in one spot, then the next inning balls in the same spot. i understand not being prejeduce to women, they are fine umpiring, but lets at least get someone who can call straight..
You're a high school umpire, and you think you have any right whatsoever to critique a minor league umpire? --Let alone critiquing her "umpiring skills" based on what her ejection signal looked like? I'd love to watch you work some time, so I could learn a few things. Where's your next assignment?
I'm just a fan, and I am pretty sure I can critique a minor league umpire. I critique a lot of stuff, like movies (Even though I am not an actor), Food, (even though I am not a cook), you name it.
-And you're not a baseball umpire of considerably lower standing and experience (like the poster I was responding to) than the one you're commenting on, so you're more than welcome to critique.
So, are you saying that a person in a profession at a lower level than someone else can't criticize uphill? You can only offer a critique if you aren't in the biz at a lower level?
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I umpire college and could have umpired MiLB, but I don't want to spend that much time away from home. YOu're saying that someone who knows SOMETHING about the profession has no business critiquing, but someone who knows NOTHING about the profession is fine? You're an idiot.
Every fan is an armchair something or other, so uninformed or under-informed criticism is part of sports--but sports officials, themselves, should know better. To get to the college baseball level, I'm going to assume you've been through the camp experience. A lot of rookies get picked up by offering their critiques of the contract umpires or clinicians at camp? Without having been there, I'm going to guess the answer is no, and that's because it's unacceptable, across all sports.
It seems like there used to be a kind of unwritten rule that for color guys to comment on calls in any sport was a little taboo. Now I hear it all the time; the higher the level, the gentler the comments, though. I seem to remember comments on the officiating in some of the NFL playoffs.
I still call B.S. on a "Blue Wall." You are saying a MLB ump no matter how badly he/she blows a call, no professional criticism from junior pros is ok?
It's unacceptable to sit at a game and make any comment referring to a judgement call. Absolutely agree. I am not critiquing her judgement, I'm critiquing her mechanics, which would be totally acceptable. I do not do MiLB, but do have friends in it, and critique them from time to time. Nothing major of course, but minor adjustments that may save arguments later. Plus, we aren't at a game, we're all just offering opinions of the video.
This is why Chicks shouldn't be umpiring... and that's coming from a chick

The only way she gave him a quick hook, is if he said the magic words to her.
Some magic words will get you an automatic ejection.
