You really could benefit more than you realize from photographic reference. That fire... Just no. Looks like a giant mass of brown fur. Probably because fire is never black, which you'd have seen if you had gotten a photograph. It's energy, it emits light. By definition, it cannot be black or dark brown like your fire is.

Also your wolf... I mean it looks good fundamentally but there are so many inaccuracies that could be very easily smoothed out if you'd just gotten a photo of a snarling wolf.
