I would not doubt that but if you have a way of catching mass amounts of hermits and the patience to extract them from those periwinkle shells then kudos to you. Asian crabs by far is the easiest to catch and out produces green crabs. It works for me but you can use your periwinkles
@webmoss eh you do you, but ill stick to going to breeders and getting a bulk of hermit crabs =] in the end its bait, and it comes down to personal preference i just happened to fall in love with they way hermits produce
I definitely couldn't agree more with personal preference. If I had access to hermit crabs for cheap then I would definitely go for it. I'm content with asian crabs. Before the huge invasion of asians I use to do fiddlers but they're a hassle to get. Green crabs are definitely good for back up bait but for $10 a gallon. That's nonsense!
these fishes are also known as TARTAR or something like that. they are good fighters especially those size ones. if you are fishing from the bank, or a bridge, and you get one of these to bite your crab, you better real them in fast and keep your pole high or else they will run under the rocks and cut your line in half. these guys are smart.
yea they fight nicely but if you have eperiance and want a real good fight go for some big striped bass or if your real daring than try some bluefin tuna lolyellowfin is even harder and try a giant yellow than lol you were realty craving a fight... a 7 hour fight =)

green crabs are better if you can get your hands on some hermit crabs they work extremely well but in most cases green crabs work best
